This year not only did I attend a Great Cloth Diaper Change location, but I co-hosted along with Calley from Kelly’s Closet and the folks at Molly’s Suds. This event is a worldwide effort to break the world record for most cloth diapers changed at one time! It is the fourth year and is always a good time. As well as being an event to raise awareness about cloth diapers, it serves as a fundraiser for the RDA. I’ve always hesitated when the topic of hosting came up, knowing it is a lot of work and it takes an organized person (which I am not) but with two other awesome ladies we combined our strengths to pull a last minute location together.
Our event took place at a gorgeous outdoor venue, Heritage Village in Largo, FL. We all avoided even mentioning the possibility of rain and just forged on assuming the best. Luckily the day was full of blue skies.
We had amazing sponsors this year who generously donated to the goodie bags and giveaway prizes. Kissaluvs, Super Undies, Thirsties, Babyville Boutique, Primal Pit Paste, BALM Baby, Moraki, GroVia, Kelly’s Closet, and Molly’s Suds.
This was our first year hosting so we weren’t sure exactly what to do. We took some ideas from the you others hosts, including using punch cards for our official count. I used the event as an excuse to go thrifting in order to find vintage suitcases for the photobooth (found at the flea market) and those photos turned out wonderful despite me not being a professional photographer.
And of course, there was free iced coffee. I’m a little obsessed so I figured, why not make 4 gallons and bring with me?
Other than the change itself, our location hosted a cloth diaper 101 workshop led by Calley, a flats information session led by me, a photobooth set and shot by me, a raffle and prize session, and a daddy diaper change competition! Hopefully everyone attending enjoyed themselves and will come next year, with a friend too!
