Kokopax Backpack Frame Carrier Review

babywearingmonth This post is part of “All About Babywearing” Month on Dirty Diaper Laundry which has extended into November.

I first saw the Kokopax at ABC Kids Expo and I was immediately attracted by the adorable patterns!  They are modern and earthy!  I was intrigued by a stylish backpack frame carrier.  I have a lot of carriers, and I have an Evenflo Backpack carrier, but it is hideous.  The idea of a cute frame style carrier was apealling.

Features:

  • made with 100% cotton canvas
  • anodized aluminum frame
  • comfortable shoulder straps
  • adjustable frame to fit individual user
  • padded waist support
  • handy storage pocket
  • kickstand for easy loading
  • 5-pt. safety harness
  • ties to secure pax protector™
  • toy ring to attach koko™ or other toys
  • weighs approximately 2.7 lbs.
  • fits in airline overhead bins
  • makes a great every day baby backpack
  • for use from 6 months to 2 years (or up to 35 pounds)
  • makes a great every day baby backpack
  • patent pending
  • includes green carry bag

CityGumdropKitchen_LR_mediumWhen I got the carrier to review I was so excited to try it.  It is useful having a frame carrier that you can strap the baby into and then put it on the back.  My apartment does not have an open floor plan so many times my sink gets full of dishes or my laundry has to wait to be done until my son naps.  The first thing I did was strap him in to the carrier and put him on my back.  I went down the two flights of stairs with him on to start laundry, then checked the mail outside.  Fletcher was extremely content in the carrier.  He had a blast because he was high enough to see over my shoulder.

Pros:

  • Super Stylish.
  • Daddy Friendly
  • Easy to use
  • Ring to hang toys on
  • Padded shoulder straps
  • Height adjustment
  • Adorable dust bag
  • Fits in overhead storage compartment
  • Keeps mom handsfree!

Cons:

  • Doesn’t have chest strap
  • Doesn’t have a waist belt on the classic model.
  • Can hurt your shoulders if you wear it for long periods of time

I find that the carrier is extremely useful.  I like having it around to throw him on my back when I am alone and need to get things done.  It would also be great for use at the airport.  I am flying alone this weekend and I am seriously considering using the Kokopax instead of my usual SSC since I can wear him on my back without the use of a chair to put him on, or having to ask someone (since no one will be there.)  AND the toy ring will be a very welcome feature.  I probably shouldn’t admit this, but the fact that the baby can “stand” in the carrier for a moment would also be good for those bathroom breaks.  A girl’s gotta go, and my baby can’t stand up alone and can’t be trusted heh.  I would be watching him the ENTIRE time and would have him close to me.

I would love to see some additions of a chest strap on their more expensive model since that one already has a waist strap.  With that, this would be a perfect back carrier.

Kokopax also has a line of matching hats (adorable addition!) and coordinating totes for your baby essentials!
