A few months ago I read a story called “Why Finnish Babies Sleep in Cardboard Boxes.” I was intrigued by the title and clicked. I learned something new and amazing- that the government provides every mother in Finland with a cardboard box full of baby items. The tradition started in the 1930’s and is still going strong.

The Baby Box Co. decided to bring that here to the states. No, the boxes aren’t free but you can buy yourself or a friend something very similar to what Finnish mothers receive, right down the the cardboard box.

The box itself is lined with a securely fitted mattress so that it can be used as a lightweight bassinet or travel crib, providing infants with a safe place to sleep. These boxes have been credited with bringing Finland’s infant mortality rate down to one of the lowest in the world. Once the baby has outgrown the box, it can be used to store toys, clothes, and more.
For the first time, The Baby Box Co. has made these baby boxes available outside of Finland.
