I was asked to review Real Nappies, a system that is fairly new to me and to the US, and was happy to do so. After all, that is what I do! The diapers came and although simple looking, they are effective and easy to use. The diapers were developed in New Zealand and can be found in mainstream grocery stores there. How exciting! In the US they are pretty new to the market.
You can also view Real Nappies’ videos and different folds on their Youtube.
Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ I found the system very easy to use, but I also have experience with trifolding prefolds to put in covers. It makes it easier that the cover uses velcro tabs so once the prefold is in the cover you can just put it on like a disposable. To change, remove the old dirty prefold and place a new one in the cover.
Bang for the Buck✰✰✰✰ I am pretty happy with their prices. If you want to simplify your life and order just one type of diaper, you can choose their Birth to Potty Package which is on sale for 500.00. You can also get smaller packages for each stage since these are sized covers. These run 69.00. The covers alone are 12.00. They are very well made and prefolds are notoriously durable so I do think they would last through multiple children. Real Nappies also has a 2 Child Guarantee.
Performance ✰✰✰✰ While as simple as they come this is an effective cloth diapering system. I personally always use a trifold, which is in the video. Real Nappies has girl and boy specific folds which aren’t needed for me. The prefolds are very absorbent and can hold quite a bit. His poops are pretty solid so I couldn’t test the legs to see if they held in wet poops or not.
Fit✰✰✰ The only issue I really had with the diaper at all was the way the tabs work. The diaper feels stiff and I have to really work to get them where I want them, which is against the nature of the way they are sewn. Does that make any sense at all? Otherwise the diaper in the medium fit him well.
Overall- I quite liked the diaper. I see the appeal of having a simple and easy to wash system. Unline pockets which have a synthetic liner, prefolds are easier to care for and are less likely to get soap buildup. They are easier to bleach if necessary also. The cover is a thick durable PUL but doesn’t look as comfortable as others. Plus, it doesn’t have leg gussets, a feature I like for younger babies with loose stools. The covers come in a few other colors, and I just saw a very adorable swim diaper if you are in the market for one of those as well!
I love a gal with a sense of humor, and I think Beth, the WAHM behind Cheeky Diapers, has a great one! I can’t get over what a great name she came up with for her diapers! And, if you visit her website you will see that she is really a Cheeky mom! The graphics are perfect for the brand name, and the ingeniuos “design your own diaper” program is a fun adventure. We have absolutely similar fabric tastes, so much so that I had a hard time choosing!
PS. I am trying a new video editing software, so be kind. I had trouble dubbing due to some video choppiness, so I was getting lost… working on these issues to better serve you!
Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The mechanics of the diaper cover are simple enough. You have two options,: you can snap the cover, or velcro. In actuality, when you are snapping the diaper, you are velcroing it as well. But when you velcro it, you don’t always have to snap it. The rise folds over for smaller babies, so as you are putting it on you can fold it over depending on the size of the baby, then affix your snaps or velcro. To remove undo and use your laundry tabs.
Bang for the Buck✰✰✰✰✰ The one size Cheeky Diaper cover is $15! This is a great price for such an adorable cover! I am in love with the fabric choices and the design/ cut of the diaper. I had a blast designing mine! If you don’t want snaps, it is $14!
Performance ✰✰✰✰ A cover of this nature is really good for day time use, and even better for showing off! I would not recommend using this as an overnight cover, simply because the cotton knit on the outside could wick. I did not experience wicking, but I am well aware that my son is not a heavy wetter at all. Obviously, it is your decision! I just think designer covers should be for the daytime. Naps are a toss up, depending on how long your baby naps and if they are heavy wetters. I didn’t experience leaks with the diaper at all, or wicking of any sort.
Fit ✰✰✰ The fit for my son was great in the legs, but a little high in the rise. There wasn’t a way to fold it down just a tad, like I needed. It was completely functional at this height, but for under clothes I would like it to be a little lower. No one size diaper adjustment is completely perfect when it folds down. You have the issue of the leg holes which might be too large.. I am not able to review this diaper on any other size settings. Hopefully the video will give you an idea of the fit variations.
Cheeky Diapers Cover!
Overall- I would give these covers a shot. I know there are a lot of WAHM diapers and covers that are adorable, but these offer some unique improvements and the designs are fabulous! You can design your own diaper without emailing back and forth and possibly having a misunderstanding that results in a diaper you don’t want. With the “deisgn your own diaper” you see exactly what you are getting. Granted, it is a drawing, but you get a very good idea of the end result. Can you tell I love this? LOVE IT!
I contacted Thirsties about reviewing the Duo Diaper. Of course, I have to keep up with the cloth diaper trends and bring you the newest diapers on video! I think this one is a great diaper for a video review. I am able to show you the two part insert and the dual ended pocket. The color, Meadow, really is great on camera too. I love this diaper, and I think you will too! Thirsites is sponsoring a giveaway, which you can enter here.
Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰✰ This diaper is easy on and off! With velcro closures it can be put on as simply as a disposable. Having it prestuffed is the best option, so you can just grab it and use it. Stuffing is easy too, thanks to the nice open pocket. When you have a dirty that needs to be tossed in the pail, attach the velcro tabs to their laundry tabs, and toss it (or spray poop, then toss). Snapping the rise up or down only happens once in a blue moon, but that is easy enough too. Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ Because almost all “one-size” diapers aren’t truly one size, Thirsties has made something very special. Having to buy only 2 “sizes” that have multiple sizes within them, will still save you money if you intend to buy a one size diaper and newborn diapers, and possibly even have to buy toddler diapers if your baby outgrows the one size. Judging by the photos I have seen of youn babies and old in the Duo, I think it will fit a newborn and big toddlers! This diaper is 17.50, the average cost for a regualr pocket one size diaper. Performance ✰✰✰✰✰The insert on this diaper really is “thirsty.” And, the hemp has stayed very soft and pliable. Typically, hemp gets crunchy and hard over many washes. Thirsties is the first to have their hemp knitted in the US, and it is quality stuff. Much different from other hemp I have seen. I would actually put this hemp against my son’s skin, unlike any other. Overnight and daytime tests had no leaks. Fit ✰✰✰✰✰ With more minute adjustments, you have a greater chance of finding a great fit for your baby at any stage. Not completely customizeable to the millimeter, but there are smaller jumps between snap settings, unlike a regular “one-size.” I really like the leg gussets, and the soft binding around the legs, front, and back. I could probably even go to the smallest setting on this diaper, but it fits well enough on the middle snap also. The diaper isn’t SUPER trim, if I know I need to squeeze my son in some jeans I grab a different one, but in general it doesn’t prevent him from wearing much. And fluffy butts are cute!
Overall- I think I like this diaper a lot more than I expected. As I typed my review I realized how great it really is. Thirsties DUO comes in fun colors too. Time will tell how the velcro holds up, it just hasn’t been long enough for me to make that call. But the insert is washing beautifully, and so in the lining. If you are trying to find a way to escape the one size trap that leaves you with no diapers for a newborn, I think investing in some size 1 Duos would be a wise decision. You would have, probably 8-10 months where it would fit your baby!
I was not paid for this review, however the diaper sent was kept.

Tiny Tush was a brand of diapers I had heard of, but I didn’t really know much about. I was given the opportunity to review both the velcro and the snap version of the Tiny Tush Elite. Then I wondered why I hadn’t heard more about them. They worked great, and were a good price too. Some brands just get overlooked. You hear about the major players, but Tiny Tush is a brand worth researching and trying out when you consider buying a one size pocket diaper.
Charlene from Tiny Tush is a generous soul. When I emailed her about Fluffy Christmas, she sent one large box containing 12 One Size Tiny Tush Elites! Then, just a few days after receiving that box, she asked if she could send even more diapers! Soon, another large box came containing prefolds, covers, and wipes. Tons of them! She sent enough diapers to cover 3 families alone. I am so grateful to her for her generosity to Fluffy Christmas. She looks for opportunities to give back, and she was kind enough to work with me on picking the families to receive the diapers. It was a hard job because there were so many deserving families, and reading the stories was hard. It makes you appreciate your own good fortune. Now, for the review!
***note, I noticed I made a mistake in the video. The diaper comes with one large insert, not two***
Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The velcro version of the Tiny Tush Elite is completely simple. To put it on you just need to affix the tabs. You will need to stuff both the snap and velcro version of this diaper. And once the baby has used it, you need to unstuff the diaper. Since the pocket opening tucks inside (called a reverse envelope opening), you might have to get your hands a little dirtier than some other pocket diaper openings. This was my only “complaint” about the diaper. Wet diapers are no problem, but if poop has traveled up near the opening it might get ugly. The design prevents the insert for ever working itself out though and having poop get into the flap opening. The snaps aren’t bad, since there are only four of them. Easy to attach and undo. Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ The price point is 17.95, right on the money for a good pocket diaper. You might find some for less, but they are probably made cheaper. You get one long insert, and it can be folded over for different rise settings. Quality made. Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ There were no problems in this department. The diapers worked great overnights, day time, naps. I only used the large insert, I didn’t double stuff or add any of my other inserts. Recently my son wore the snao veriosn of the Tiny Tush Elite overnight. At 5:00 am there is a bomb threat at our home, my son and husband evacuated (I was staying at a friend’s watching her baby since she was in the hospital having another one!) and after they got home he went right back to sleep. He was in the diaper all night until after 9. Much longer than usual. It was very heavy, but it never leaked! Fit ✰✰✰✰ I can’t say how the Tiny Tush fits on a newborn, or a larger baby. My son fits the two middle snap rise settings, either one work for him. On my “newborn” baby monkey, there was some leg gaping. This could be a drawback of having such a high rise, you need larger legs for the bigger babies. Once the thighs chunk up a little it should fit a smaller baby fine. Overall- Like I said in the video, I love that this diaper has microfleece instead of suedecloth, and you can get snaps or velcro. There are nice color choices, the diaper is made well, and it looks comfortable on my son. Even though it is slightly bulkier than a Bum Genius 3.0, it isn’t the bulkiest pocket diaper I have seen, and is trimmer than a prefold/ cover combo or certain fitted/ cover combinations. I think this is a pocket diaper worth looking at!
Bummis cloth diapers have been around for a long time. I bought many used ones when I was pregnant, but this was when I was ignorant about cloth diapers. I didn’t realize that they were more than used, they were abused. While I could have been ok using them, I bought some other covers instead and gave those away. I only used them a few times and didn’t have any problems with them, the laundry tabs were just shot.
I was excited to get another opportunity to try Bummis, and this time I was going to get the chance to review the entire iParenting Award winning Organic Cotton Prefold Kit in the Baby (medium, 15-30 lbs) size. I looked at the regular kit while I was pregnant, and tried talking my husband into it. Instead I bought all used diapers and less than quality prefolds. I know now the mistake I made. Cheap doesn’t always equal better, and I wasn’t happy using prefolds. I switched to pockets and didn’t attempt prefolds again for a long time.
Bummis is also an all around great company. They manufacture most of their items in Canada and they are a caring company. When I contacted them about donating a diaper to Fluffy Christmas the response was not, “Ok,” but, “We will donate a Baby size Organic Cotton Prefold kit.” That kit went to a very deserving family, along with a couple extras. I can’t wait to get pictures of the baby in a Super Brite!
Our mission is to make it easy for you to use cloth diapers simply because we think that all babies would love to be wearing them! They are so soft and comfy ….
Cloth diapers are also affordable, easy to use, and super easy to wash.
We manufacture and distribute hard working, functional and great looking products.
Ease of Use ✰✰✰ The Bummis covers and prefolds can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make them. Because they have a handy panel up front, as shown in the video, you can trifold a prefold and place it in the cover. I would personally use a snappi (or pins for the brave) on babies who have loose stools. If you simply trifold the prefold you might very well have poop leak into the cover, and you will either have to wipe the poop from the cover or use a new one. The kit has 4 covers in the Baby size kit, enough to do 1.5-2 days between washing, and the Infant has 6 covers, which would last about 2 full days between washing. The infant kit comes with 24 prefolds, also enough for 2 days, and the Baby has 18, good for 2 days as well! Because the covers are velcro, once you have the prefold inside or on the baby, that step is easy peasy. To change, and put in your wet bag for washing, attach velcro laundry tabs. Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ For around 160 dollars you have enough diapers at your disposal to last you until they change sizes. If you use both kits, in infant and baby size, you will spend roughly 336 dollars. Many babies never need a size large diaper, and the Medium Bummis fit until 30 pounds. I would personally buy travel wet bags, and an extra large wet bag for when you are washing the super fab Bummis wet bag that comes with the kit. Performance ✰✰✰✰✰Sometimes the simplest diapering solutions are the best. With the kit you get everything you need. The fleece liners are made from recycled polyester, and the flushable liners really come in handy if you lack a diaper sprayer or when you are out of the house. The prefolds are really absorbent and soft. I even used them for overnight and there were no leaks. My son is sleeping about 12 hours a night now. The covers are nice and thick enough, and I feel that they are substantial. You can’t complain about the nifty, gender neutral patterns the covers come in either. Fit ✰✰✰✰ The Medium covers and prefolds in the kit fit my son well, with a little room to spare in the cover. Not enough to have a leak, the legs and back were tight enough, but there was enough looseness for more growing. The prefold, when trifolded, fit perfectly inside the cover. Using a snappi, they fit well with the angel fold, which is what I prefer. They aren’t “trim” when compared to an AIO, and you get a booty shelf in the back if you place the prefold in the cover instead of using a snappi. Overall- There is a reason that expecting moms register for this kit. It has virtually everything you need to cloth diaper, and they don’t skimp on the quality or quantity. Instead of giving you plain covers, you get some of the cutest patterns Bummis make. And, the wet bag can’t even be purchased alone. I used the bag while I was out of town for 2.5 weeks. I never wanted to be without it, so I washed quickly and used a travel wetbag in the meantime. I think I went 4 days without washing once, and I still had more room, but not enough diapers to continue. Plus, I wouldn’t want to. Even after 4 days the smell didn’t seep through, though once I opened the zipper the stink could have knocked you over. Prefolds are diapers that are versatile in fit and use, and they last forever. Since you can hang the covers dry, I don’t see a reason this kit shouldn’t last you through 2, or more, children if you never put those covers in a dryer. To keep your prefold soft, try Ecover fabric softener, the only diaper safe softener! This kit is all kinds of fab!

… or any velcro tabs for that matter! Most cloth diaper users encounter problems with their velcro tabs. They can lose stickiness, curl, and gather lots of fluff over the months and years of washing. When I first started using and washing my Bum Genius 3.0′s I carefully pulled any stray hairs out that I saw. That was when my baby slept the majority of the day. Now I hardly have time to stuff and put away my diapers. Sometimes they lay in a pile and I pick the pieces up for each change.
I first heard about using a snappi to clean velcro tabs a few months ago. I wish I could remember who I heard it from to give them proper credit. It was probably on the Monday Night Twitter #clothdiapers chat. Using a snappi is easy to clean the gunk out of the tabs. If you don’t own one you can also use a comb. I do caution you to pay attention as you do this. You could break the hoops in the velcro.
