Trend Alert: Prints and Trainers are HOT for Cloth Diapers!

Just as Fashion Week sets the new trends for the next season of clothing and accessories, the ABC Kids Expo taking place Set 23-26 sets the newest trends in Baby Products.

With over 25 Cloth Diaper Exhibitors joining the show this year there will be lots to see.  Usually brands wait until this time of year to unveil their newest products.  Buyers will be at the show placing orders and brands want their newest releases ready for order!

This explains why the biggest brands in cloth diapers are announcing their newest products.  Already we have seen huge announcements from GroVia, bumGenius, and Swaddlebees.

The trend?  Trainers and Prints.

GroVia announced their new Trainers called MyChoice.  These are “One Size Fits Most” that have a snap down rise and have the option of two different Flex Side Panels.  The Regular Size fits 1T-3T (18-35+ lbs) and Plus fits 3T-5T (30+ lbs).  You can find the MyChoice with the Regular Flex Size Panels for 18.99.  If you want to add the Plus Size Panels for 3.99.  The panels can be purchased in multi colors but the trainers come in Vanilla and Cloud.  Available Dec 2012

GroVia also came out with 2 new colors, Cloud (grey) and Surf (teal).  Also available in October.  You can view them in the trainer chart above.

bumGenius already announced recently that they were releasing a trainer that one also be a “One Size Fits Most” Design with replaceable inserts.

Meet the Flip Trainer!

The Flip Trainer has stretchy side panels similar to the bumGenius tabs, replaceable organic cotton inserts so that your toddler can feel when they are wet, and those inserts use touch tape to be secured inside, and can be replaced when wet.  This should save a little money in the Trainer department since you are usually dealing with wet misses.  There is a snap down rise and the trainer should fit toddlers 20-50 pounds!

Rumparooz has a new line of EcoPosh diapers including their Organic Training Pant.

Kissaluvs released their new Pocket Trainer a few months ago but it is still worth mentioning.

I can’t say what is coming but I know of two major brands also releasing Trainers in the near future.

bumGenius also announced new colors and PRINTS!

Lovelace (on left) and Albert (on right)  You can preorder them from Mom’s Milk Boutique and won’t be charged until they are shipping, sometime in December.

Yesterday I also posted about the 6 new prints from Swaddlebees.  These will be available for most of their product line.  You can view them all on my post and even enter to win one of the new prints in a Bluberry Coverall!    Here is a peek:

I also have in my possession a very fashion forward print from Charlie Banana designed by Matthew Langille.  I can’t share it just yet though!  For now check out one of his other designs, these are Swatches.

Thirsties just released their new print, Hoots.

And Sweet Pea also announced an Owl themed Print.

Other recent but not “brand new* prints that have been introduced lately include BottombumpersTiny Tush, AppleCheeks, and itti bitti.

Rumparooz released their new line of EcoPosh diapers made from recycled plastic bottles.  They have a One Size fitted, Newborn Fitted, and a Wool Soaker.

Then there are more prints being announced soon by a few other brands!  *hint, one is a DDL advertiser* I can’t wait to see them all at ABC Kids!  I have a feeling I will be updating my Cloth Diaper Finder with at least 30 new products soon!

Which is your favorite new product announcement or print?

One Size Cloth Diapers on a Newborn Review Video and Chart

I am concluding my newborn cloth diaper reviews today with this video of many of the one size diapers I used on my baby Everett.  Some of the diapers shown in the video aren’t in the chart, but the most requested diapers made it to the chart.  If anyone has any questions please ask in the comments and I will answer.  I like to remind everyone that every baby is different. My first son didn’t fit his BG 3.0 until over 10 pounds, but this guy fit at 9.5 pounds.

I have reviewed each of these diapers in more detail, though at the time I had not used them on an newborn.  To see each diaper’s individual review you can click the links.

Sweet Pea One Size Cover Review

Sweet Pea One Size Cover Review

Sweet Pea Diapers asked me to review a fairly new product to their line-up, their One Size Cover.  This uses the same sizing as their pocket and still has an inexpensive price point. Originally only found in Canada, you can now find Sweet Pea Diapers in the US!

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ The Sweet Pea OS Cover is designed very much like their pocket diaper.  There is a 3 step rise which you snap down or unsnap to size, and 2 snaps at the end of each tab for closure, as well as a set of crossover snaps.  Very easy to put on with only 4 snaps to affix, total.  And easy to size up/down as well.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩✩ These covers are extremely affordable at 10.95!  They work great and look to be made very well for such an inexpensive item.  They are made in China, a drawback for some buyers, so that is something to keep in mind which does reflect in the lower price.

Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ I have been using this cover very regularly as part of my nighttime diapering solution for my youngest baby, now 11 weeks old.  I didn’t get the diaper until he was already on the larger side.  This cover has kept him very dry at night with no leaks, paired with a fitted.  It has been my favorite so far in the OS covers we have tried.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ The waist tabs met and now have 1 set showing since he was grown.  We never really got to use the cross over snaps.  The rise was perfect when we started using it at a few weeks old, and we are still on the smallest rise snap.  On my toddler he is on the middle rise snap.

Overall: I was surprised at how much I really liked this cover since it is truly a “no frills” type of diaper.  It works, it fits, and it comes in a few fun colors.  And I love the handy drying loop!

Where to buy: Sweet Pea Diapers USA or Sweet Pea Diaper.com (canada)

A One Size Sweet Pea Cover was sent for the purposes of this review.  No other compensation was received.  All opinions are 100% my own and genuine.

Sweet Pea All in Three Review

I first heard of Sweet Pea many months ago when they contacted me to do a review of their One Size Pocket.  I loved that it was very economical!  This time they asked me to review their new All in Three, which consists of a hemp soaker, a microfiber soaker, and a cover.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The All in Three by nature is a 2 step process.  You have to take the soaker of choice and snap it in.  In this case you have two anchor points, 1 at the front and 1 at rear of the diaper.  The soaker snaps in those places, making it a total of 4 snaps.  This can be done ahead of time.  But, if you have multiple snap in soakers and use the cover over and over, you would have to snap the soaker in while changing the baby.  Then you close the diaper, with 2 snaps to close.  The scrunchy nature of the soaker can make finding the snaps difficult, but when you know where to look it becomes easier.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The AI3 retails for 18.95, which is a good Price point for a multi functioning diaper.  Especially considering that it comes with a hemp soaker.  You can buy bamboo from their website as well in addition.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ I would say this is a good system to use for daytime.  While the soaker is absorbent enough, the fact that it just covers the middle strip might not bode as well for nights.  I didn’t test it for overnight for that fact.  Since my son sleeps all night (mostly) I didn’t want to run the risk of him waking up wet.  If you want you can just use the microfiber soaker, or the hemp soaker, or both together.

Fit ✰✰✰ I happened to like the fit on my son.  Though the middle was bulky with the hemp insert, the fit around his legs and back was good.  The tabs cross over in a weird way, most cross over tabs have snaps farther back but these only have the two on each end.   I don’t expect that this will fit a tiny newborn, but if it did I would only use the microfiber stay dry soaker to keep it less bulky.  I do think it will fit a high weight range though.

Overall- I am not a huge fan of All in Twos or Threes since I love my pockets.  If you need a diaper in this category it is a good price point, plus it comes in neat colors.  I like that you can buy a bamboo insert for it as well.

iParenting Awards for Cloth Diapers! And, What are “Econobums?”

A few of our favorite brands here at DDL have won iParenting awards!  Congratulations to Sweet Pea Diapers, whose video review you can see here, Fuzzibunz (whose One Size I will be reviewing in two weeks), Bummis, and Cottonbabies for their new Econobums!

Now, the question remains, what are Econobums?  This is the description given by iParenting:

Designed by the makers of bumGenius, we are introducing a new one-size diapering system called “econobum”. Econobum is a less expensive cloth diaper solution for every budget. Econobum is the affordable choice in cloth diapering.

Are you tingling with excitement yet?  The photo provided on the iParenting page is just a plain white diaper.  You cannot tell anything!  The product isn’t even on the market yet, but apparently you don’t have a long wait.  I decided to tweet @bumGenius with the question, “What is econobums?”  Here is what she wrote back:

Picture 24

What do you think it is?  A snap one size?  Pocket, All in One, All in Two?  An elastic adjusted rise?  Lets conjecture in the comments with your best guess!

***Edited for updates!  The Econobum will unveil at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas September 13 and will also hit shelves in September.  The Econobums Website is now live!  Check it out.  There is a picture of a baby wearing one, presumably, but you cannot see any details. ***Rumors: Price point will be around 15.00, they are made in the US.

Fluffy Mail- June 29- Monday

The carnage of Fluffy Mail excitement.

The carnage of Fluffy Mail excitement.

Today my mailbox was stuffed!  I got two diapers:  a GAD (Green Acre Designs) in meadow lime with an organic bamboo velour inner and a hemp insert, and a Sweet Pea One Size diaper with 2 microfiber inserts.  These were sent for me to review.  They are currently being prepped and will get the Fletcher treatment soon enough.  I am excited to try the GAD most of all.  This company has a great reputation, not to mention the diaper is way too cute.  It is side snapping, which is something I have wanted to try for a while.  Sweet Pea is a Canadian company, with a few retailers carrying their diapers in the states.  I have also read a great review about their diaper.  It is a snapping one size.  I love my snaps!  Besides these two, I have a Smartipants, ES Baby, and Kissaluvs Marvel review either filmed, or set to be tested.  I am extremely excited about all of the amazing reviews coming up.  I hope everyone is finding them informative.

If there is a diaper you are dying to see on video, let me know.  I will try and get it to review.  And, if you are a company that would like me to try your diaper and film a review, contact me at dirtydiaperlaundry@gmail.com.
