When I attended the ABC Kids Expo I was able to chat with a lot of cloth diaper manufacturers in person. In some cases, I also walked away with a new diaper to review. One diaper I walked away with was the Monkey Doodlez TAG (Tuck and Go) shell and their soaker pads. This is an All-in-Two system with a fleece gusset that holds in the Pad. I first started using the shell with a prefold (not tucked into the fleece) when I was using a diaper service in Louisville. At home I have been reviewing the diaper with the soaker pads in place and using it as an AI2.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ I found the Pads to have a higher learning curve when it came to the time it took to get them placed properly compared to a snap in style or lay in style AI2. The long, pointy tabs need to be pushed under the fleece gusset just the right way. You will also need to know that they go in one way only. The widest part of the pad tucks into the back and the narrowest tucks into the front. You can’t do it the other way around. After doing it numerous times I felt I found a good method and got the groove of it. After the Pad is in place the diaper goes on easily thanks to velcro closures. Sizing down or up is easy with the snaps in front also. Bang for the Buck ✩✩ The covers retails for 14.99 each, and Pads are sold in 3 packs for 29.95. I don’t find this to be a great deal if you are looking to save money wit an AI2 system. If you want an AI2 simply for the space saving, simplicity of it all and not just to save money then you will still come out on top compared to disposables. If you do the math it comes to 15.00 per change, which is slightly less than the average one size pocket diaper. The covers and pads are well made and the velcro is nice and strong. The cover price isn’t too bad but the Pads are priced more than I would expect to pay. I am using the Canadian prices since I had a hard time locating a US retailer. Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ There was a lot of thought put into the design of this diaper. I was especially impressed with the channeled design that lets any urine collect and re-absorb into the pad before leaking out. I used one pad and the MD shell overnight and realized it wasn’t absorbent enough. There was a small leak and the pad was saturated completely. I would need a doubler or second pad for overnights. Fit ✩✩✩✩✩ There are 4 sizes available. The small will fit a newborn (they have a few adorable images of their diaper on squishies) and the Large would fit me. I am not lying. While at ABC Kids they brought one out and it was larger than my underwear. For anyone looking for a night time diaper for an older child give these a look. You will need 2 or more pads a night but the sizing is EXTREMELY generous. Ev wears the Medium-Long and has it snapped down. He was way more room in the waist than he needs now. It is a diaper that will last him until potty training for sure. The Pads also come in sizes to ensure the best, trimmest fit in the covers. The fleece covered elastic look so comfortable. Another feature is that there is only microfleece touching the skin. Many AI2‘s have exposed PUL where the soaker doesn’t cover but the TAG doesn’t leave any touching the skin, much like a pocket or AIO. Overall: The TAG is a great AI2 system for those parents who like the clean surface of a pocket or AIO or for any babies who have a sensitivity to PUL. In the states they aren’t carried in as many retailers as they are in Canada but you can find them. The touch tape used on the tabs is the more plastic kind. It is very strong so pay extra attention to attach them to their laundry tabs. They can cause some real havoc on your other diapers if not. I’m really happy with their sizing options as well; they accommodate a large range including small adults! Where to Buy Find a retailer on MonkeyDoodlez.com

A few readers have requested swim diaper reviews. Since I live in Central New York swim weather is still far, far away. We don’t swim in an indoor pool either. Instead, here is a little roundup of some of the swim diapers available since the season is quickly approaching.
In theory, any pocket diaper without the insert can be used, however the chlorine in pools will harm the PUL. Not to mention, an empty pocket diaper is going to be saggy and might not fit as well.
For a swim diaper you really want a great fit since the goal is to catch any solid waste and prevent it from leaking into the pool. I haven’t personally tried any of these, but I do own a Bummis Swimmi.

The MonkeyDoodlez wetbag is something I am very happy to have in my collection of cloth diapering supplies. I have tried a few other wetbags and I would have to say that this bag is one of my favorites, if not THE favorite. This wetbag is exceptionally well made, holding up really well after being washed many, many times. It also holds smell in really well. I keep the bag hanging on the slat doors of my laundry room, which is located on the main floor of my house…so if the wetbag doesn’t hold the stink in, it will surely be noticed! I also had no issues at all with wicking, even after having thoroughly soaked many diapers in there using my diaper sprayer.
Probably my most favorite feature of this bag, which I hadn’t even originally noticed and may seem insignificant, was the direction that the zipper unzips. When the bag is hanging from its handy clip, you unzip towards yourself…away from where it hangs. This makes it a one-handed operation. My other wetbag that I love zippers in the opposite direction, which causes you to have to hold the dirty diaper, hold an edge of the bag, and then use another hand to unzip. Not the easiest process. With the MonkeyDoodlez wetbag, you can easily hold the dirty diaper in one hand and unzip with the other…making the whole process a lot easier and less messy. And it also makes it seem less complicated for the less-than-enthusiastic-to-cloth-diaper dads out there.
I would highly recommend this wetbag to anyone needing a wetbag for their cloth diapers, as well as someone wanting to hold their sweaty gym cloths, wet swimsuits, etc. It holds up well in quality, function and features compared to other wetbags I have seen and used.

Bamboo fiber fabrics are luxuriously soft and feel kind of like silk. Bamboo is quickly renewable and shares many of the wonderful properties of cotton; superior absorbency, breathability and does not trap heat.
The microfleece in these diapers is made from a blend of (Rayon made from) Bamboo (33%) and polyester (67%) which offers silky softness matched with durability. This microfleece will not pill so your baby’s bottom will be cradled in silky softness change after change.
Hidden inside is a full layer of heavy weight cotton flannel for an added all over absorbency and breathability. Securely attached is a multi layer thick and thirsty cotton terry soaker pad.
The diaper fastens with our own Doodlez tape (hook and loop) to provide a secure hold while remaining very soft to the touch.
Gentle elastics at the legs and waist provide a comfortable fit. Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰✰ This is a diaper you can trust with your babysitter or Daddy! It goes on super simply, just like a disposable. The video shows how easy it really is. You will have to affix the laundry tabs with a simple fold back, rather than looking for laundry tabs. Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ The Bamboo Doodlez retails for around 20.00. This is a little more than I would want to spend for a sized, All in One diaper. You are paying for the super smooth and soft bamboo lining that your baby feels. Yes, it is so soft! There is plenty of absorbency too. Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ I have had a great experience testing this diaper. It has performed well in all capacities, day time, naps, and over night. I want you to know that my son is not a heavy wetter. Even though it worked for us overnight but might not work for everyone. For comparison, he can use a BG One Size insert and a microfiber doubler overnights and they aren’t soaked in the morning. Fit ✰✰✰✰ The first thing I noticed is that this has a lower rise that many other medium diapers. It still fits my son, but it might not fit him in the rise as long as some other. The legs were a great fit on him, snug enough to hold everything in but not too tight. I’d say his thighs are average for a 12 month old. There is lots of room left on the waist for growth as well. Overall- I think it is great to have an all in one diaper around for going out or for people not familiar with cloth diapers. I love how the lining is colored and is made from a bamboo blend which is incredibly soft. I would like it to have a pocket to add absorbency. It also takes 2-3 cycles in the dryer or many, many hours of line drying. This is the case with any sewn down all-in-one. You pay in drying time for convenience.
If you want to try one, you can find them at many retailers in the US and Canada. Monkey Doodlez are made in Canada.
