Mother-Ease Sandy’s Fitted and Airflow Cover Review

Mother-Ease Sandy’s Fitted and Airflow Cover Review

This diaper set was another I received almost a year ago for review, but my son did not fit them.  It was only recently that I tried them again and they fit him.  I know I have had many requests to review the Sandy’s Fitted and Air Flow cover from Mother-Ease Cloth Diapers and I knew I would get to, someday!  Enjoy the video and review!

Ease of Use ✰✰As a fitted and cover go, these aren’t that time consuming or complicated.  You have 4 snaps to affix for the fitted and 4 for the cover.  This is 8 all together, less than some fitteds have!  It is very easy when applying on your baby to figure out which snap will work for your baby.  These products are both sized so there aren’t very many choices.  Easy to remove and toss in the pail as well.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The Sandy’s Fitted is 10.75, a super low price to a fitted that works as well as it does.  The Airflow Cover is also extremely affordable at 12.75.  Just adding two or three of each of these is a small investment for nighttime diapering.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ While these work just fine during the day, I find them best for overnight.  During the day we like pockets for convenience and trimness.  But for night time fitteds have been shown to work best for my son.  He isn’t bothered by feeling wetness so we can swing it.  He wakes up leak free in these.  The first time I used the cover he had some red marks on his thighs so I was worried about using it overnight.  I did it one snap looser on the thighs from then on and no red marks, plus no leaks.  I did use the booster it came with for overnight.

Fit ✰✰✰ The sizes were very confusing to me.  Some stores only have certain sizes, but on the Mother-Ease website they list quite a few choices.  I believe I have the M/L cover.  This fits 20-27 pounds.  It did not fit until around 22 pounds.  The nature of the cover is that it is loose, so even if you get one in the mail and you think it is too large, try it on.  I was dubious it would fit him then but it did.  The Sandy’s is even more confusing.  The sizes go Newborn, Small, Large.  There is no Medium.  We received the Large, which fits 20-35 pounds.  He still has plenty of room to grow in this, and even though it isn’t snug on him it does fit and work.

Overall- For those parents who are concerned about air circulation in the diaper or who are looking for an excellent night time solution, I would suggest trying this combo.  While we won’t likely be using this in our daytime rotation it will be making it into our night time line up for sure.  The fitted is my favorite of the two; it is extremely soft and absorbent, as well as comfortable.  It would also work really great underneath a wool cover.  It will not fit well under certain, more “bikini cut” covers like the Kissaluvs Marvel OS.  The Airflow can work with just about any fitted or prefold.  So, not the most adorable diapers but they are very effective!

Little Beetle Little to Big One Size Review

I was asked to review the Little Beetle Little to Big One Size fitted.  I was excited since I was already a fan of the brand.  Better for Babies, the company behind Little Beetle diapers, was a huge supporter and contributor for my Fluffy Christmas event.  I was thrilled to work with them and so thankful for their help!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ This diaper is a fitted, which means it is not waterproof.  There will be the added step of using a cover (wool or PUL) which can be as easy as pulling on a wool cover or as hard as velcro or snapping.  The Little Beetle One Size Little to Big has 3 snaps on each tab which are fairly close together.  Depending on the wiggliness of your child this can be challenging.  I reviewed the snap version, but you can buy it in aplix as well.  I was also using this diaper when we were ECing so I had it already snapped.  It was pretty easy to pull up and down.  If you know the setting for your child you can do this as well and avoid snapping!  There is a lay in booster, very easy to put in.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ This diaper is 24.95,  Sounds expensive, and yeah, you can find much cheaper fitteds on the market.  The cheaper alternatives are usually not made in the US and are not made with high quality organic materials.  Little Beetle is a very responsible and caring company and do their best to provide goods made in the US by people earning and living wage.  This means you pay a little extra.  You also get a great high quality diaper that is cute too!

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ I tried this diaper a number of ways.  With a booster for overnights with a wool wrapping cover (pass) in the day with a PUL cover (pass) and with no cover as a make shift trainer (pass).  The trainer aspect passed too well since he has made a tinkle and I didn’t realize it since it never felt damp to the outside.

Fit ✰✰✰ The fit ran a little small in my opinion.  I still had a rise snap left but I will soon need to unsnap that.  The waist could be a snap larger on each size at least, and the thighs were pretty tight so I think a toddler larger than my son (22 pounds or so) would possibly have a hard time fitting the diaper.  I do think that it would start fitting a baby at a very young age since it gets quite small.  Always a give and take!

Overall- I enjoyed using this diaper, especially coverless since I LOVE the color and the velour is too soft to cover with wool or PUL.  I am also a huge fan and admirer of this brand and the quality products they make.  They take everything into consideration, not just the product, but the people making it and the resources used.

Pooters Fitted Review

I was asked to review this new fitted diaper to the market, Pooters.  Funny name, good diaper.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ Though this diaper has snaps, it is easy enough to figure out.  There are cross over tabs on each side which saves you having to remember which side has them.  Since I frequently get confused (different brands use different sides) I liked that feature.  To adjust the rise of the diaper you can fold it over.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ This diaper is very, very affordable.  For 12 dollars you can get a fitted that is absorbent enough for night time.  It isn’t made in the US, and that can explain the cheap price.  That may deter some buyers.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ I have been using this as my night time diaper for some time now.  I add a booster made from soft bamboo, strictly for keeping something soft against my baby’s boy parts.

Fit ✰✰✰ I would like to see this diaper have a higher rise.  It was at the perfect point for my son, but I can tell he will outgrow it soon enough.  He is usually in a Medium so this is a problem for babies wearing Larges.  The snaps are great for skinny babies though, it will go very tight.  It snapped at a great waist fit for us.

Overall-  This is a new diaper and one that has a lot going for it.  I think if they can adjust the rise to be a tad longer they will be able to be an even better diaper.  You can also get this diaper in cotton, but we tested the hemp version.  It was very absorbent as well.  Since I am using it on a very regular basis you can be sure I do like it!

Tiny Tush Hemp Trim Fitted Review

I am a fan of Tiny Tush products, not only because they work great, but because the company is amazing.  I was very happy to be sent their new Tiny Tush Hemp Trim One Size  Fitted to review.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ This fitted has snaps, but nothing like a Goodmama, which can be overwhelming.  I found it easy to put on and take off, and to size since the rise uses snaps as well.  The soaker can be snapped in or left out for more trimness if you don’t need it.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The Hemp fitted costs less than many fitteds on the market, but as much as many pocket diapers (17.95)  The price is justified since the diaper is made from Hemp, a material that has to be imported.  However, the diaper is still made in the USA.  It is very absorbent so worth the price if you need a workhorse diaper that is very thirsty for nights.

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ I loved this diaper because it was simple and effective.  I trusted it for days without the insert because my son isn’t a heavy wetter.  I used it with a PUL cover and it was never soaked through, even after one instance of leaving it on a little too long.  Blame it on Mommy/ pregnant brain!  Overnights required the insert but no extra stuffins for me.

Fit ✰✰✰✰✰ The ruffled elastic fit my son beautifully.  I think there is lots of room for growth, especially with 4 rise settings.  It was very trim on my son compared to many fitteds, especially those using OBV which are heavy and bulky.  I can’t say if it fits a newborn or not, but I think it would work, especially with a cover.  Give me a few months before testing that.

Overall-  This is another great product from Tiny Tush.  The hemp is soft and pliable and the lining is soft against the baby’s skin.  The snaps are hidden, a feature I am very fond of.  Even though the front rolls down some it doesn’t detract from the function, and you will have a cover of it most of the time so it isn’t a big deal.

BabyKicks Organic One Size Fitted Video Review

I first saw this diaper a couple of months ago.  I wasn’t sold on it because of the crazy colored snaps, it makes it look more complicated than it is (to me.)  I did know of the amazing reputation of BabyKicks for their super absorbent inserts and prefolds.  I got the diaper in the mail and after prepping ( a lot, remember, this is hemp.  A ten wash minimum before this puppy is ready for action.) and putting it on my son, I was in love with the fit.  And, in the morning, when there was no leak, I loved it more.  It is a great fitted for going coverless as well, if you are into that sort of thing.

About BabyKicks, the company:

BabyKicks has been designing and manufacturing superior hemp diapering products in the USA since October 2000.  BabyKicks strongly believes in social responsibilities. As a result BabyKicks has started to move some of its production (particularly the cutting and sewing) to be done by local disabled workshops and we could not be happier with the quality and commitment.

What BabyKicks say about their diaper.

This fitted does it all and when we dreamed it up we had your baby’s comfort in mind. Our premier organic fitted is designed to be the only diaper needed from birth thru potty training. Made of luxurious 50% certified organic cotton for softness, 33% natural hemp for absorbency and durability, and 17%% polyester for stretch, this diaper will wrap around baby hugging every curve and keeping messes in. The diaper even comes with a free Joey-Bunz insert and the features include:

Great Fit: This diaper will give you the flexibility you desire and your baby an amazing comfort and feel with its trim-fitting design – no bulkiness here – while providing a wonderful fit!

Side-Snapping Snaps: Side snaps make changing a breeze and eliminate wing droop. Fold the diaper inside the pocket for a trim fit on a newborn, or leave the waist snaps slightly loose for easy up and down on a potty training toddler (you can use this fitted as a training pant).

Front Pocket: The unique front stuffing pocket allows for easy access and virtually eliminates insert shift. The pocket feature on this fitted gives you all the flexibility in the world to add as much (or as little) absorbency as your child needs – be it during the day with an added Joey-Bunz Insert or maybe at night with one of our ultra-absorbent Pre-Folds.

One-Size Design: Our one size design grows with baby and this truly is the only diaper you will need! There is no need to figure out what size is right for your baby or worrying about your baby outgrowing the diapers you just bought. Our BabyKicks Organic Fitted fits newborns (7lbs/3.2 kg) to toddlers (40lbs/18kg) comfortably and securely. The color coded snap-sizing system makes adjusting and finding the right size and fit super-easy.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The diaper looks, um, imtimidating even to me. Something about the colored snaps makes it look harder. The reality isn’t bad at all. You only have to affix 4 snaps per diaper change. You won’t be needing to change the rise for each change, of course. And, if you are using it as a pull-up, which I haven’t tried since my son isn’t able to stand on his own, it is probably easier (or maybe harder depending on the child.) If you are shown how to size this diaper in person, as I was, to the preemie size, that is also easy, but possibly hard to explain in text. But of course, that is why I am here!
Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ Hemp is a very expensive fabric because of the legal issues. It always has to be imported. The diaper costs 19.95. That is pretty pricey for a fitted. You can buy a pocket diaper that is waterproof and one size for less money. But, night time diapers, or diapers absorbent enough for night time, are usually pricier also. You are able to use this from 7 lbs (or less if you go with the unsnapped fold over technique), up to a 40 pounds toddler.
Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ With the hemp, cotton, and polyester (for stretch, makes a sung fit) combo, this diaper is a beast. I love it. It fits like a glove on my son, which means no leaks. And, it is super absorbent.
Fit ✰✰✰✰✰ Perfect, can’t complain a bit, and don’t see any issues with it fitting in the future. Adding stretch makes all the difference.

Overall:  This diaper is really great!  It does have a hefty price tag for a fitted, but the performance and fit make it well worth it.  It is better to invest in quality than quantity when it comes to diapers capable to working overnight.

Play All Day Hemp/ Organic Cotton Video Review

Play All Day fitteds are made from Hemp Fleece fabric that is 55% Hemp/45% organic cotton.

These diapers are made with 3 layers organic hemp fleece and have a 2 layer hemp doubler. Newborn size is made with just 2 layers and has a 2 layer doubler. These are fantastic for overnight, even for super soaker babies! Works great with our Certified Organic Merino Wool Covers.

Neutral color stitching. Easy snap closure. Aplix closure available by request.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The Play All Day fitted has snaps, but not very many. This affect the fit but for Ease of Use, it is a good thing. Only four snaps to affix, and few snaps to choose from. As always, snaps can only get a four star rating at best. So this is as good a snap diaper rating as they come!

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ These diapers aren’t cheap for being plain jane and a fitted. You will pay 15.50 for a newborn and 17.50 for a Medium or large. Why? Because the materials are he,p and organic cotton, and they are made in the US. US made diapers are always going to cost more because they makers have to make a living wage. While your wallet might complain about this, remember that you are supporting US families. You can get cheaper fitteds that works as well or better. For the price, you could also buy certain brands of pockets. Buyers of this fitted are after quality of manufacture and want to support US industry, plus they want organic materials.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ Hemp takes a long time to prep. I have been using a cotton doubler for overnights to ensure that the diaper has enough absorbency. Since the hemp is fully prepped I may not need it anymore, but I like to err on the side of caution rather than wake up to wet sheets and baby. Regular daytime use I never used the cotton doubler and it worked fine. I did use the hemp doubler that came with the diaper.

Fit ✰✰✰ I am actually tempted to give the fit a 2, but since I have actually not had any leaks because of the way it fits, I decided 3 was fine. In the video you can really tell that the snaps are very far apart, and there is a snap missing in the front where one is needed for a tighter fit. Also, when you cross the tabs over, the next snap in on the tab doesn’t lay flat. There distance between snaps is off somehow on that. I would like to see some improvement in that area. The front gaps a little on my son because he is in between snap settings. If they were set close together this would probably solve that problem. The legs fit great on him and leave no red marks, the edges are nice and soft too. The back also has some elastic, so that fits nicely as well. Maybe elastic on the front would help the fit as well, because the hemp/ cotton combo has no stretch to it at all.

Overall- I am still happy with the Play All Day fitted overall. It works just fine, and is soft on my son’s skin. The materials are natural and absorbent, there are no dyes, and it is comfortable on him. I love that it is made in the US and uses quality materials. I also can tell that it is sewn with care and will last a long time. My only issue would be the snap placements. But, as long as it isn’t hanging off of the baby, the cover is going to pick up slack in that department. I have used it with their Merino Wool cover and had no leaks, and used it with other Wool and PUL covers as well.

About Play All Day:

A diaper is a necessity that every baby needs, but it can also be a source of comfort. Growing up, my Mom and Grandmother made all my clothes. They were made from soft fabrics, in my favorite colors. I loved them and remember with fondness how neat it was wearing things made by hand.

As the mother of 2 very active boys (7 and 3), I have taken pride in helping to make their world softer and more comfortable. It’s fun introducing cloth diapering to others because they work well and have been enjoyed so much by my family. Cloth diapers can be a way to help the environment and save money at the same time. Even one handmade item in an outfit can make a baby so comfortable.

When I started the business in March 2008, I made all the diapers for the business myself. Now I am fortunate to have the help of very talented seamstresses who work out of their homes. I still make some Play All Day diapers, because I really enjoy putting together these pieces of fabric that will make a little child comfortable and happy.

Kiwi Pie One Size Review

DSC_5287Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ This fitted is pretty easy to size and put on.  There is only one row of snaps, which means less snaps to fix overall.  The snap down rise is completely simple to figure out, and the snapping soakers are also a no brainer!

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ The Kiwi Pie is 25.00, which is pretty hefty.  You are paying for a squishy soft and luxurious diaper.  It is more than just a diaper, you get a really adorable print, extra stretch, and bamboo softness.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ This diaper works really well, both for every day use and for naps.  I just recently had a leak with it overnight but this was the first time that happened.  During the day I like to use it coverless because it is too cute!

Fit ✰✰✰✰✰ Snapping fitteds can have gaps in the sizing, but as of yet we haven’t run into any.  This is most likely because of the lycra in the fabric.  It has a very generous stretch that gives a very snug fit.  The diaper fits him with the rise snapped.  Since it is stretchy I think it will fit for quite some time.  It should fit babies 8-35 pounds.

Overall- You buy a Kiwi Pie because it has cute prints, and the function comes second.  If it didn’t function then you wouldn’t want to spend 25.00.  Since it works great then go ahead and make a splurge purchase to add an adorable fitted to your stash.

Goodmama ONE- New All in One from GM!

Goodmama ONE- New All in One from GM!

Can you feel the ripples of excitement in the cloth diapering world?  Goodmama, the makers of the most sought after fitted diapers, are finally coming out with an All-in-one diaper!  This company is famous for their fitteds in the most adorable prints, colors, and styles.  Their diapers fetch crazy prices on the For Sale or Trade forums, one reaching the 300.00 mark for one diaper.  Yes, you read correctly, 300.00.  Many people on the internet have also lined their own pockets by buying up rare GM’s and selling them for a premium.  Didn’t know there was a cloth diaper black market?  Now you do!

When newcomers to cloth diapering come across this brand, the question always comes up, “Why would you buy a $35.00 diaper and then cover it up?”  There are many ways to answer this.

1.  They don’t cover it up!  Many parents (like myself) tend to go coverless around the house.  Goodmamas are very absorbent and can hold a great deal of pee before feeling wet on the outside.

2.  They feel satisfaction in knowing underneath that cover, wool or PUL, there is an amazingly cute diaper.

3.  They buy Goodmamas because they work so well, the prints (if it has one) are a bonus.

I will admit not understanding the obsession with GMs.  I own one that I bought from Diaperswappers on FSOT.  It is Pollock, a tie dye print.  I needed to understand the hype and see for myself.  I will admit to being overwhelmed by the snaps!  I am still frustrated with the amount of work it takes to put on a Goodmama.  Then, add a cover to it!  The good news:  I have never ever had a leak overnight with one.  They work well!

So, am I going to buy into the hype and try Goodmama ONE?  Absolutely.  There aren’t many diapers I will buy now that my stash is “complete.”  This is a diaper I need to try, just to say I have.  Their claim to fame -prints- will be used on these diapers.  They will be a cotton knit with a hidden waterproof layer.  These types of diapers, ala Piddle Poddles AI2′s, are famous for wicking.  Has Goodmama come up with a solution to fix this?  If so, please sign me up!

Will you be buying ONE?  Do you think the GM obsession is crazy?  Any other thoughts?  Please share by leaving a comment!  I would love to hear what you think!

What Kind of Cloth Diapering Mama Are You?

What Kind of Cloth Diapering Mama Are You?

There seems to be a few different categories of cloth diapering moms. They are by no means mutually exclusive, I myself fall into a few, but in varying degrees. These are observations I have made since diving headfirst into many different cloth diapering communities.

1. The Frugal Cloth Mama: This mama cloth diapers to save some green. Her initial interest stemmed from either wanting to save money or NEEDING to save money due to financial distress. This mom may not be concerned with the cutest diapers, but with what works and that she can afford.

T

This mom most likely uses: prefolds, PUL covers, Fleece Covers, Wool Covers, DIY or WAHM made diapers.

2. The Environmental Mama: This mama decided to cloth diaper because she was concerned about the waste produced by disposables. She is probably worried about the chemicals in the disposables as well, and loves cloth because it keeps her baby’s bum rash free (who doesn’t?)

This mom most likely uses anything out there, though she may be more likely to pick diapers made from organic fibers like organic bamboo velour fitteds and wool covers.

3. The Fashionable Mom: This mom decided to cloth diaper because she couldn’t resist the amazing array of cute fluff! The patterns, the colors, the styles!!! Who wouldn’t want to cloth diaper with the choices out there today?

This mom most likely uses fitteds (Goodmamas) and covers or AIO’s or Pockets in colorful colors and patterns.

4. The Underground Fluff Addict: This mama is in it for the thrill of the hunt. She probably didn’t start cloth diapering to stalk hyena cart but she is hooked now! She will stalk BSRB, Goodmama, Muttaquin, or the other “underground” cloth designers who have limited quantities and numerous fans. This mama may even pay 70.00 for a certain diaper whose print is no longer available. AND this mom probably has matching sets custom made to coordinate with her diapers. This mom is definitely not in cloth diapering to save money!

This mom most likely uses Goodmama, Muttaquin, Bagshot Row Bamboo, PB and Ellie, Cranky Pants, Sustainable Babyish, and way more than I can name!
