Goodmama One Review

I know I have been meaning to post this review for a long time.  I bought the diaper myself to review it since I knew so many people were wanting a video review!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰ Goodmamas and snaps are synonymous.  Each tab has 3 snaps that need to be secured, so while putting the diaper on you need to secure 6 snaps total.  This can be no big deal, or torture depending on your baby/ toddler’s temperament.  To size the diaper, you can just fold the rise over, which reveals more snaps.  When left unfolded, those snaps will be against the baby’s skin.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ The ONE is close to 30.00.  You are paying mostly for the cuteness factor and the rayon from bamboo which makes up the interior of the diaper.  You really only buy this diaper because you love the way it looks.

Performance ✰✰✰ I experienced a good number of leaks in the beginning.  The wetness wicked onto the decorative material on the front of the diaper around the legs.  I contacted Goodmama and they offered to help me troubleshoot.  I tried working with how I was sizing it and between that and perhaps some extra washes (prepping) it didn’t leak through the legs.

Fit ✰✰✰ The diaper isn’t the trimmest.  Even the fitteds are a little bulky since they use quite a few layers of rayon from bamboo.  Trimness doesn’t mean the most to me.  The rise can be adjusted but I don’t feel this would fit a baby until they get some length and chunk on them.  The legs weren’t as snug as I would like to hold in leaks, but I never had any solid waste leak out.

Overall-  I do enjoy how cute the diaper is, and always appreciate softness next to the baby.  I don’t like that the snaps are not hidden, so when unfolded, they are against the baby’s skin.  The only way to avoid that is to buy socks that go over those snaps.  It is absorbent enough, but I always worry about him leaking while wearing it so I don’t leave it on for long or use it while we are out.  If you like the look of GM’s I would much rather get the fitteds.  At home you can use them coverless.  There are tons of people who do love the ONE’s, but I am not in love.

Easy Fit from Bummis Review

As with a lot of diapers I have reviewed, I was first introduced to the Easy Fit at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas back in September.  There were two stand out diapers, this one, and the Marvel AIO.  Both diapers featured a “tongue” style, where the abosrbent insert agitates out for washing but stays attached.  So in essence they are an All in One, but do require stuffing the insert back in.  The Easy Fit is different in that the “insert” is touching the baby, but is very long, so you stuff it back inside.  It makes it double up while the baby is in the diaper.  The materials are luxurious and soft, and the PUL is very durable.  The diaper is made by Tots Bots, a UK company.  Bummis is now distributing them here in the US and Canada, and I am so glad!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰✰ This is about as easy as it gets!  Putting it on takes seconds and taking it off is as easy, just attach the laundry tabs.  Since the insert is really attached but agitates out, you don’t need to pull anything out before washing.  It will be hanging out once it is washed and dried, but putting it back in also takes seconds.  The bonus is that it takes far less time to dry than a traditional All in One.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ You are not only paying for the convenience factor, the bamboo, and the quality of the materials, but also the importation.  The diaper is made in the UK and imported by Bummis.  I do love it though, but if I had to pay for it I would only buy a couple.  I couldn’t afford to make them my whole stash.  But if you can, more power to you!

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ Perfect.  The soaker is 2 layers, microfiber and rayon from bamboo.  There is room in the pocket for more inserts if you need them.  I didn’t need any extra though.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ Like most snap down rise diapers, I don’t expect this to fit a newborn.  I have room for one more snap so it will fit a larger toddler.   The legs never left red marks.

Overall-  I am so in love with this diaper.  The colors are vibrant and modern and I love every single one.  The only thing that bugged me was that the bamboo attracts every single rogue velcro tab that has lost a laundry tab.  It seems to have 2-4 diapers attached to it in some way once it is out of the dryer.

GEN-Y Couture Diaper Cover Review

This monday I am doing a video review of the GEN-Y couture cloth diaper cover.  These covers are fun and you can get them in designer prints.  I first learned about them while researching for my Cloth Diapers Made in the US and Canada list.  GEN-Y covers are made in the USA.  They also donated a cover to Fluffy Christmas.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The GEN-Y cover is side snapping.  While some people find side snapping diapers to be harder than traditional diapers, it is a matter of practice.  Because these are sized covers, the snaps are closer together than a one size diaper, so you might have trouble picking the right snaps at first.  Your main job is going to be putting on whatever goes on underneath, be it a fitted, prefold, flat, or contour.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ These covers are a little fancier than your traditional PUL cover.  The outer layer is a fun designer print (thus more expensive).  I’d also like to point out that the covers are made in the USA!  While you can certainly get covers for less, you pay a premium for the cuteness factor and the fact that these do not wick like many other cotton print outer covers!

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ This cover is very leak proof.  Even after a few hours I never saw any wicking, something similar print outer covers do if left on for a while.  I still like to only use print outer covers during the day so I didn’t use this cover overnight.  I was still impressed with it!  You should note that you won’t be able to trifold a prefold and place it inside like some other covers.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ The GEN-Y cover comes in sizes, with 3 waist/ hip adjustment snaps for a variable fit within each size.  This is especially good if you need more room for larger thighs.  That extra snap or two can keep your baby comfortable and possible prevent red marks.

Overall-  I thought the cover worked extremely well.  The fact that it is loose fitting (but will squish under clothes) means a little more airflow inside the cover.  You can choose from designer prints not usually found on diaper covers and not worry about wicking.  The way the cover is cut reminds me a bit of girl’s panties…  Even with the manly tattoo print I couldn’t get the image of panties out of my head.  That is nothing against the cover, just a personal thing.  I  think I would rather personally use the cover on a girl.

Wet bag review- GENY-Y also sent along a fun hanging wet bag for me to review.  This one is long with a cute handle (this one had skull and crossbones) and the PUL was a mint green.  I usually use a diaper pail, but for the purposes of the review I used a hanging wet bag.  A friend recently mentioned she was going to put a second wet bag in her bathroom for poopy diapers and I realized what a good idea that was.  This was the perfect wetbag for the job.  It isn’t large enough for days worth of diapers, but it would be good for 1-2 poopy diapers a day for 2-3 days.  I also used it on a few day trips, keeping it in my car and putting my soiled diapers inside.  I can tell you the smells stayed in well and I never felt moisture on the outside of the bag.

Bella Bottoms Incredibellas One Size Review

One of the benefits of researching all of the cloth diapers made in the US and Canada was that I came across brands I was not familiar with.  Let’s face it: there are tons of diaper brands out there, big and small, and I don’t know them all!

Bella Bottoms, a brand of diapers made in Austin, TX, only recently added the Incredibellas One Size pockets diaper to their lineup.  This diaper has snap closures, a fold over and snap down rise adjustment, and pocket openings in the front and back so no unstuffing!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The Incredibellas sizing adjustment was very intuitive for me.  As shown in the video, the rise folds over on the top of the diaper, and snaps down.  Then  snaps facing the correct direction are exposed that you can use.  There are two settings of the fold over/ snap down rise, and the third setting is completely unfolded.  For every day use it is very easy to put on and take off.  There are a total of 4 snaps to affix, two on each tab.  When you are ready to take the diaper off you don’t even need to remove the insert because it agitates out in the wash.  You can stuff from the front or back of the diaper as well, the front opening is very wide and good for Daddy hands.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ This diaper is a great deal!  The diaper sells for 15.00 on Bella Bottom’s website, but is currently on sale for 12.00!  This includes an insert and doubler.  This diaper has features often found on pricier diapers, such as an insert that agitates out.  The coordinating snap colors is another feature I loved on this diaper.

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ I was very impressed by the Incredibellas.  It is obviously a WAHM made diaper when you look at it, judging my the styling and stitching.  That doesn’t mean it doesn’t perform well (or look good!).  There were no leaking issues of any kind, though apparently I was using the doubler and not the soaker.  I am unsure if I misplaced the soaker it came with or what!  I just noticed this today!  The doubler is 100% cotton and bi-folds, and the soaker is 100% cotton and trifolds.  Apparently the doubler is all I need so I bet the soaker is even better!

Fit ✰✰✰✰ The first time I used the diaper I felt there was an issue with fit around my son’s waist, as if the snaps were too far apaprt for me to get a tight enough fit.  The second time I used it there was no issue at all.  I never had a problem with that afterwards.  Most diapers have a learning curve to get a good fit and application on the baby, and even an experienced diaper tester can have trouble.  With snaps there is always that chance of having an odd fit when you are in between snaps.  These are a tinier bit farther apaprt than most so that may have been my issue. I have been reaching for this diaper a lot though, because it is really trim!  It gives my son a little less of a fluffy booty!  As for the rise adjustments, I can tell it gets very small, but with no newborn to test it on (yet!) I can’t speak to the fit.

Overall- I am very impressed with this diaper.  I had never heard of it before, but I hope after my review that you give it some consideration.  It is very well made (the label tag started fraying but the label was not made by the same folks making the diaper… so don’t fault it for that!) and you really can’t beat the price on these!

Cheeky Diapers One Size Cover Video Review

cheekylogoI love a gal with a sense of humor, and I think Beth,  the WAHM behind  Cheeky Diapers, has a great one!  I can’t get over what a great name she came up with for her diapers!  And, if you visit her website you will see that she is really a Cheeky mom!  The graphics are perfect for the brand name, and the ingeniuos “design your own diaper” program is a fun adventure.  We have absolutely similar fabric tastes, so much so that I had a hard time choosing!

You can enter the giveaway here.

PS.  I am trying a new video editing software, so be kind.  I had trouble dubbing due to some video choppiness, so I was getting lost…  working on these issues to better serve you!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The mechanics of the diaper cover are simple enough.  You have two options,: you can snap the cover, or velcro.  In actuality, when you are snapping the diaper, you are velcroing it as well.  But when you velcro it, you don’t always have to snap it.  The rise folds over for smaller babies, so as you are putting it on you can fold it over depending on the size of the baby, then affix your snaps or velcro.  To remove undo and use your laundry tabs.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ The one size Cheeky Diaper cover is $15!  This is a great price for such an adorable cover!  I am in love with the fabric choices and the design/ cut of the diaper.  I had a blast designing mine!  If you don’t want snaps, it is $14!

Performance ✰✰✰✰ A cover of this nature is really good for day time use, and even better for showing off!  I would not recommend using this as an overnight cover, simply because the cotton knit on the outside could wick.  I did not experience wicking, but I am well aware that my son is not a heavy wetter at all.  Obviously, it is your decision!  I just think designer covers should be for the daytime.  Naps are a toss up, depending on how long your baby naps and if they are heavy wetters.  I didn’t experience leaks with the diaper at all, or wicking of any sort.

Fit ✰✰✰ The fit for my son was great in the legs, but a little high in the rise.  There wasn’t a way to fold it down just a tad, like I needed.  It was completely functional at this height, but for under clothes I would like it to be a little lower.  No one size diaper adjustment is completely perfect when it folds down.  You have the issue of the leg holes which might be too large..  I am not able to review this diaper on any other size settings.  Hopefully the video will give you an idea of the fit variations.

Testing a Cheeky Diaper Cover!

Cheeky Diapers Cover!

Overall- I would give these covers a shot.  I know there are a lot of WAHM diapers and covers that are adorable, but these offer some unique improvements and the designs are fabulous!  You can design your own diaper without emailing back and forth and possibly having a misunderstanding that results in a diaper you don’t want.  With the “deisgn your own diaper” you see exactly what you are getting.  Granted, it is a drawing, but you get a very good idea of  the end result.  Can you tell I love this?  LOVE IT!

Bummis Organic Cotton Prefold Kit Review

bummisBummis cloth diapers have been around for a long time.  I bought many used ones when I was pregnant, but this was when I was ignorant about cloth diapers.  I didn’t realize that they were more than used, they were abused.  While I could have been ok using them, I bought some other covers instead and gave those away.  I only used them a few times and didn’t have any problems with them, the laundry tabs were just shot.

I was excited to get another opportunity to try Bummis, and this time I was going to get the chance to review the entire iParenting Award winning Organic Cotton Prefold Kit in the Baby (medium, 15-30 lbs) size.  I looked at the regular kit while I was pregnant, and tried talking my husband into it.  Instead I bought all used diapers and less than quality prefolds.  I know now the mistake I made. Cheap doesn’t always equal better, and I wasn’t happy using prefolds.  I switched to pockets and didn’t attempt prefolds again for a long time.

Bummis is also an all around great company.  They manufacture most of their items in Canada and they are a caring company.  When I contacted them about donating a diaper to Fluffy Christmas the response was not, “Ok,” but, “We will donate a Baby size Organic Cotton Prefold kit.”  That kit went to a very deserving family, along with a couple extras.  I can’t wait to get pictures of the baby in a Super Brite!

About Bummis:

Our mission is to make it easy for you to use cloth diapers simply because we think that all babies would love to be wearing them! They are so soft and comfy ….

Cloth diapers are also affordable, easy to use, and super easy to wash.

We manufacture and distribute hard working, functional and great looking products.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰ The Bummis covers and prefolds can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make them. Because they have a handy panel up front, as shown in the video, you can trifold a prefold and place it in the cover. I would personally use a snappi (or pins for the brave) on babies who have loose stools. If you simply trifold the prefold you might very well have poop leak into the cover, and you will either have to wipe the poop from the cover or use a new one. The kit has 4 covers in the Baby size kit, enough to do 1.5-2 days between washing, and the Infant has 6 covers, which would last about 2 full days between washing. The infant kit comes with 24 prefolds, also enough for 2 days, and the Baby has 18, good for 2 days as well!  Because the covers are velcro, once you have the prefold inside or on the baby, that step is easy peasy. To change, and put in your wet bag for washing, attach velcro laundry tabs.
Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ For around 160 dollars you have enough diapers at your disposal to last you until they change sizes. If you use both kits, in infant and baby size, you will spend roughly 336 dollars. Many babies never need a size large diaper, and the Medium Bummis fit until 30 pounds. I would personally buy travel wet bags, and an extra large wet bag for when you are washing the super fab Bummis wet bag that comes with the kit.
Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ Sometimes the simplest diapering solutions are the best. With the kit you get everything you need. The fleece liners are made from recycled polyester, and the flushable liners really come in handy if you lack a diaper sprayer or when you are out of the house. The prefolds are really absorbent and soft. I even used them for overnight and there were no leaks. My son is sleeping about 12 hours a night now. The covers are nice and thick enough, and I feel that they are substantial. You can’t complain about the nifty, gender neutral patterns the covers come in either.
Fit ✰✰✰✰ The Medium covers and prefolds in the kit fit my son well, with a little room to spare in the cover. Not enough to have a leak, the legs and back were tight enough, but there was enough looseness for more growing. The prefold, when trifolded, fit perfectly inside the cover. Using a snappi, they fit well with the angel fold, which is what I prefer. They aren’t “trim” when compared to an AIO, and you get a booty shelf in the back if you place the prefold in the cover instead of using a snappi.
Overall- There is a reason that expecting moms register for this kit. It has virtually everything you need to cloth diaper, and they don’t skimp on the quality or quantity. Instead of giving you plain covers, you get some of the cutest patterns Bummis make. And, the wet bag can’t even be purchased alone. I used the bag while I was out of town for 2.5 weeks. I never wanted to be without it, so I washed quickly and used a travel wetbag in the meantime. I think I went 4 days without washing once, and I still had more room, but not enough diapers to continue. Plus, I wouldn’t want to. Even after 4 days the smell didn’t seep through, though once I opened the zipper the stink could have knocked you over. Prefolds are diapers that are versatile in fit and use, and they last forever. Since you can hang the covers dry, I don’t see a reason this kit shouldn’t last you through 2, or more, children if you never put those covers in a dryer. To keep your prefold soft, try Ecover fabric softener, the only diaper safe softener! This kit is all kinds of fab!

Econobum Video Cloth Diaper Review

I first saw the Econobum at ABC Kids Expo in September.  I already knew about it from stumbling across the iParenting award it won before its release.  I blogged about it back in August, and many of you heard about it here first!  I knew it would be a diaper I had to try, and thanks to Kelly’s Closet- a total one stop shop for cloth diapers- I was able to.

The Econobum isn’t “cute” like other cloth diapers.  It is super simple, bare bones, and extremely economical.  Bum Genius 3.0 will NEVER have snaps, so Econobum fills that need (and the Flip) but as a cover.  It only comes in white, and to keep prices down, will always be that way.  You could use it as a cover with other diapers like fitteds, or use and of the the Flip inserts with the Econobum as well.

I sent out a cry for help and Kelly’s Closet answered.  I am happy to get the opportunity to review both the Econobum and the Flip (coming soon) thanks to them.  Kelly’s Closet has the widest selection of cloth diapers I have ever seen.  And, don’t forget you can earn Diaper Dollars when you shop at Kelly’s Closet.

Psst… want to shop?  Use my affiliate link to support Dirty Diaper Laundry.

EconobumEase of Use ✰✰✰ The Econobum is fairly easy. 4 snaps to affix total for each change. The prefold needs to be folded to size each change and placed in the diaper. It can be tricky to keep it in place while the baby is wriggling around. It can slide around and you might have to start from square one. Since there is no panel to hold the prefold in place that might make it harder in that department than other covers. It is easy to launder, no laundry tabs to affix or inserts to pull out. Prefolds are notoriously easy to wash and almost indestructible. *** You should be able to fold the prefolds 3 different ways.  I see that you could only fold it one way and have it fit all 3 sizes.  If you want more absorbency up front you can fold it over in the front as shown.  I never found that necessary.  I’m not sure the third way to fold it.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ No complaints there at at. Econobums have a cheap price point at 9.99 for 1 cover and 1 prefold. You save more when you buy bulk. Buy a kit of 3 covers and 12 prefolds and it will run you 49.99 full price.  (psst.. they are on sale currently.  Find them for 39.96 or 7.96 for one at Kelly’s Closet) You do get what you pay for though: 1 layer of PUL, no frills, and unbleached cotton prefolds.
Performance ✰✰✰✰ I have no complaints about the Econobum. The prefold properly prepped was absorbent enough for night time and regular use. I never had leaking issues in any situation, laying down, side sleeping, or running wild. I will say my son is at the sweet spot of sizes, the middle snap, so I couldn’t test this on the newborn snap rise or unsnapped.
Fit ✰✰✰ The fit is very bulky, but then again, any trifolded prefold is going to give your baby a booty shelf.  Prefolds and trim rarely go together.  The snaps were pretty close together for my son, so I wonder how tiny of a waist they would fit?  Width wise I think it would last fine.

Overall- I wouldn’t say I could have a stash of these, but I see the audience they are intended for.  You want simple and cheap?  This is for you.  If you are wishing to test the waters of cloth diapering without a huge up front investment, you could also benefit.  This could also be a good supplement to a stash needing more time between washing with less money spent.  My major complaints are with the thinness of the PUL.  Overnight I could smell the urine through my son’s diaper and PJ’s.  Since he sleeps with me it wasn’t a very welcome smell to wake to.  This isn’t after the buildup of ammonia either, it started after just prepping them for use.  The covers are flimsy and I worry about the snaps stretching the PUL when you undo them.  I also did not like that the back of the snaps is exposed, which left snap marks on my son’s skin.  You have to be careful where you place the prefold inside, and if it shifts as they move around you could still have the problem.  However, when you NEED cloth diapers and can’t afford a stash of Bum Genius 3.0, this can save you tons of money.

Bum Genius 3.0 Review

Boy was this a long time coming or what?  I have used the Bum Genius 3.0 One Size Pocket since my son was a newborn.  I bought these initially because they had the best reviews on Diaperpin.com.  I also saw them in a store and thought they looked easy enough for my husband to figure out.  It is rare that I review a diaper I have used since the newborn stage.  Hopefully this review will give those looking for advice on these diapers some useful insight into the BG 3.0.  These are perfect starter diapers.  The beauty of them really is in the simplicity.

bumGenius-one-size-3.0-diagramEase of Use ✰✰✰✰✰ The BG 3.0 uses a velcro closure.  Bum Genius has plainly stated that they will never make a snap version of this diaper.  It is intended to be the easiest and most user friendly cloth diaper on the market.  You can have the BG converted to snaps if you want, of you can buy a BG Organic with snaps or the new Flip.  Before putting it on the baby you will need to stuff it with the microfiber insert.  The pocket opening does require that you lift the flap, then insert the soaker, then fold the flap back over.  I am always extremely careful when I stuff my diapers because if you don’t lay things down correctly you can get leaks.  When you are done you need to either remove the inerst all the way or pull it out slightly to let the washer do the rest of the work.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ In my mind when I do these reviews I always compare pocket diapers (and others) to the BG 3.0.  The pricing is 17.95 and you get the shell, a one size microfiber insert, and a newborn insert/doubler.  I have found plenty of other diapers that cost less than the 3.0, however they are usually not made with the same quality of materials.  The BG also has widespread availability.  If a pocket diaper costs more than this I look for materials like hemp, bamboo, and more options.  It seems expensive but it is still on the lower end of diaper costs.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ As of now I have zero leak issues with my Bum Genius 3.0.  However, it hasn’t always been like that.  I started using the diaper on my son when he hit 8 pounds.  Leaks out of the back!  As a new mom I thought my baby was sweating from being swaddled and I asked my pediatrician.  She asked if I had his penis pointed down.  Whoops.  So we started pointing it down and still got leaks but not as many.  Usually these leaks were up the back or through the leg openings.  It really wasn’t tight enough on his legs.  Online the majority of users said the BG fit their babies between 11-13 pounds.  This was true for us as well.  I stopped using them until that point and stuck with prefolds and some disposables, mostly at night.  I used the newborn insert only for quite a while, then moved to the one size insert for more absorbency.  We use them at nights on occasions now too and I don’t have leaks.  I haven’t had any leaks at all for quite some time.  I attribute this to getting a better wash routine.  I was using Tide but now only use cloth diaper specific detergents.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ I am not saying this diaper will not fit an 8 pound baby, because every single baby is shaped differently.  I do know that as a member of online communities for cloth diapering that most moms say they don’t.  Personal experience tells me that it didn’t work for my baby until 11-13 pounds.  Once it fit him we still had some user error leaks cause by how we put it on or how we washed it.  (When I say “we” I really me “I”)  The velcro tabs overlap and the 3 step rise worked well for his younger days and now.  He is 21 pounds and on the middle rise snap.  We are on the verge of needing to move up.  Babies change shapes so he may move back down too.

Overall- The majority of my stash is still made up of my original set of Bum Genius 3.0′s.  Many of them have been converted to snaps.  Those that haven’t have had issues with the velcro tabs getting full of lint and the laundry tabs have lost all stickiness.  I will not go to the trouble of replacing them but you can have that done or do it yourself.  The tabs also curl up.  There are some fuzzies on the outside around the tabs where jeans rub.  Yet, they still function well and I grab them because they are easy to use.  My husband grabs for these the most because he is most comfortable with them.  I think the BG is a great starter diaper.  I have suggested them to many moms looking for something their husbands might be able to use.  Hubbies so forget to attach laundry tabs and pull inserts out.  Be warned!  i had a sheet with instructions for him.

I am currently reviewing the newest diapers from Bum Genius, the Flip and Econobum.  I have already reviewed the BG Organic AIO.  Tomorrow look for a video showing how to clean the velcro of your Bum Genius.

Bamboo Bums Utility Diaper Review

Bamboo Bums is a WAHM and WAHG run and made company.  The diapers are all made from viscose from Bamboo. Bamboo has so many advantageous properties.  Even though it is now classified as Viscose from Bamboo or Rayon from Bamboo there are many reasons bamboo is good for your baby and your diapers.  Bamboo velour feels luxurious and soft on your baby’s skin.  It is a renewable resource.  Bamboo Bums uses organic bamboo for their products.  Other than the utility diaper Bamboo Bums offers bamboo prefolds, wetbags, and pail liners.

diaper_conga

Ease of Use ✰✰ I hate to say it, but this diaper is a bit, complex! The rise work by folding down, and it was confusing at first how to do this. You can see in the video how when the diaper is folded over, you snap onto the snaps on the velour. When it is not folded, you snap on the white snaps beneath the top row of snaps. Now onto the lay in soaker. This is a very long soaker, so you need to fold it up. I think shortening the soaker would make things a tad easier, because they way I like to use this diaper is to fold the soaker onto the baby. If you fold it and lay it in ahead of time, you run the risk of misjudging how it will land, and then you have a leak on your hands. I fold it over the private parts, and the fold it up again, giving lots of wetness protection upfront. I do like that a lot, customizing the layers to where you need it. You could fold in the middle for a girl.  Even though this gets two stars that is for the initial learning curse.  When you spend some time with the diaper it will go to a four star like other snap diapers.
Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ I am going to tell you how well this diaper is made!  It looks luxurious and expensive.  The Bamboo, a fabric that feels super soft and squishy, is all that is on the inside against your baby’s skin.  The diaper retials for 32.00.  You are probably thinking that is a lot of money for a diaper.  Besides a one size diaper, you also get a trainer diaper, and a diaper you can use for swimming.  Though I caution you that the chlorine in pools might harm the PUL, maybe you can use it for river swimming or in the swimmin’ hole!  Plus you are supporting a WAHM!
Performance ✰✰✰✰ This diaper works great for daytime, and well enough for naps. If you are folding the rise down, you probably don’t want to use it for nights. The wetness can wick where the diaper folds over. I never had a soaking wet baby in the morning, but it was damp on his jammies from that. Now, I couldn’t test this because my son was too small, but, if you aren’t folding it over, you will probably be fine. Daytime and naps I never had that wicking issue since we were changing him sooner and he wasn’t as wet.
Fit ✰✰✰✰ I don’t think the Bamboo Bums will fit a newborn, but not many one size diapers so. If you fold the diaper over too much, you will still have a lot of fabric at the top, and it would be bulky. I can’t give you an exact date or weight I think it would fit, since my son is larger. I won’t guess either, because I stink at weight guessing! I can only attest to personal experience. I wil lsay that this diaper should fit a very large baby or toddler, especially babies with a larger waist. My son CAN cross the tabs over, but does well with them meeting. And there are way more snaps left on the waist. The rise is also high when unfolded. If you need a diaper for larger toddlers check these out.

Overall- There are alot of things I like about this diaper.  The lining is super soft and organic.  The PUL comes in some interesting colors, I had the olive and it is gorgeous.  There are lots of snaps, and those are intimidating and hard to affix when the baby is wriggling but so many snaps cam also mean lots of size variations.  The best part of the diaper is the versatility.  The different size soakers and the ability to fold them where you need it is handy.  The biggest drawback of this diaper is that wetness can wick to the bamboo when the sizing is folded over.  This only happened to me overnight when the soaker was saturated.  I got a really nice fit with the diaper but it took me some time to figure it out.  Just be patient with this diaper and give yourself some time to learn how it works.  I promise once you get it right you will enjoy it!

Softbums Video Review

I am trying something new, so let me know how you like it.  I will be posting my reviews separate from my giveaways, that way, if you have a comment directed toward the review itself, you can post it!  This is more for my cloth diaper video reviews.

I was contacted by Sarah from Softbums about doing a review of her diaper.  I had heard of Softbums before.  It was actually when there was a lot of buzz about Gro Baby.  Many people, like myself, were really excited about an All in Two with a reusable shell.  It seemed like a novel concept.  Well, some other moms were already in the know about Softbums.  They were around before Gro Baby, and are also an All in Two with a reusable shell.  There are definitely differences between the two diapers.  I am not saying anything negative about Gro Baby, because they work well.  But Softbums just have a more precise sizing option since the leg elastic is adjustable.  I hope the video gives you a good idea of how they work.

I want to add that I have talked to Sarah over email and on the phone a few times.  She really has a heart for cloth diapering.  In fact, she has been doing it for 13 years, way before many of the modern diapers we know now were around.  She knows her stuff, and has used her experience to create a very superior cloth diaper with the ability to truly fit a baby from 6 pounds to 35 pounds and possibly more if needed.  While not the “perfect” cloth diaper, Softbums is pretty close.  I wish Sarah had the ability to put the Softbums name out there for more moms to hear, but she is running this operation practically solo.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ Softbums are extremely easy to use. They have an aplix version and a snaps version. With the aplix the diaper can go on much like a disposable if you have the insert presnapped in. There are two ways to put on a softbums, which are both reflected in the video. One, which has the insert presnapped and folded down. The other, the insert snapped in but not folded until you put it on the baby. Changing my son into a Softbums with aplix is one of the quicker diaper changes I have compared to some of my other diapers. Adjusting the diaper for the first time might take a bit to figure out where to set the “snugger” leg elastic. If you visually compare your Softbums to another diaper you have that fits your baby, it might alleviate the guessing game. Once on the baby, you can let it out more by pinching the toggles if need be, to perfect the fit.
Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ Yes, you can fine one size diaper systems, and even one size All in Two systems for less money. What you are paying for is worth factoring in. Made in the USA, a TRUE one size diaper, quality materials like sturdy Aplix and bamboo if you choose those for inserts, and an all around good diaper. You can buy a start pack with one cover and 3 microfiber soakers for 33.92. Why .92 and not .99 I have no clue hehe!
Performance ✰✰✰✰✰
No leaks with these! Performance gets a five star. Even though the soakers aren’t “thick” they are super absorbent. They are a total of 4 layers of microfiber once you fold the insert over in the front. The bamboo insert works really well also, but it is a tad bit bulkier.
Fit ✰✰✰✰✰ Fantastic! I love putting this diaper on my son because it goes on so easily and because of the “snugger” system and the stretchy leg elastic it fits snugly and comfortably on my son. It leave no red marks on his thighs or back. I haven’t had any leaks around the legs due to a fit issue.
Overall- It is pretty apparent that I think these diapers are awesome. I do want to note a few things that make it not “perfect” but that wouldn’t convince me not to buy them. First, the liner is microfleece. Since these are an All in Two, you will be reusing the shells. The microfleece will probably get damp after the soaker has been wet. It is best to air the soakers out in between uses, but since the shell doesn’t have laminate PUL you can’t wipe them clean between uses. You will also mos likely end up having to use a new shell if your baby has loose stools.  Second, since the long soaker folds in front, when my son sits down he gets a little “bulge” in front. I know the lady babies give him the eye because of it! It still isn’t bulky, it just tents like bad khakis when he is seated, giving him a very “happy” appearance. I am still in love with these diapers. There are 9 color options, from tame to BRIGHT. They have a snaps and aplix version, and they have a microfiber or bamboo soaker to choose from.
