bumGenius! 4.0 One Size Pocket Review

bumGenius! 4.0 One Size Pocket Review

If you have been reading my blog for a while you probably know that I am a “fan” of bumGenius! products.  I have been using their 3.0′s since my son fit into them (around 12-14 pounds, leak free) and their Elementals (Organic AIO’s) since I bought a few when he was a couple of months old.  I have reviewed the 3.0 (BG 3.0 Review) and Elemental (Elemental- FMA BG Organic AIO- review) already.  I won’t say I was disappointed when they announced that the 3.0 was being discontinued since I knew the next diaper (I correctly predicted would be called 4.0) would be very similar with a few improvements.  The most obvious improvement they needed to make, improving the hook and loop closure and adding snaps, were both realized.  Bonus improvements: the ability to easily replace elastic and a higher rise.  They also added new colors, which I am not a huge fan of.  I will specifically say I am not a fan of their names.  Why must color names be so confusing?  Case in point:  I ordered 2 bumGenius! 4.0′s to review, one with hook and loop and one in snaps.  I ordered 2 of the new colors: Noodle and Bubble.  I didn’t double check what the colors were.  Bubble= lavender.  Let me ask you, when you think of a bubble, do you think of purple or blue?  Water=blue.  Bubbles=blue.  Also, the color Sweet reminds me of lavender or pink.  That is pale blue.  Noodle is the light yellow, which does make sense.  Noodles are yellow, or pale yellow, and this is an accurate description of that color.  I do not like that I need to research the colors, which not all stores have listed with a description or photo (and photos don’t help since the colors are so pale, they all look the same) before I buy.  My son has a purple diaper.  So what?  Wanna fight about it?

Now, for my review of the diaper itself and the performance, since my color rant is over.  For those curious, they are bringing back the brights (my favorites) and will be introducing prints.  No date announced yet.

Ease of Use ✫✫✫✫✫ The 4.0 doesn’t differ from the 3.0 in this regard.  I tell anyone who asks me about a good intro cloth diaper that they should try the 3.0 (now I say 4.0).  It is affordable, durable, easy to use with the hook and loop (and snaps), simple to find the right fit, and easy to take off.  You still need to affix the laundry tabs before washing, and you need to remove the insert.  You will need to restuff the diaper before baby wears it.  Is it easy?  Yes.  Is it as easy as an AIO? No.  Is it worth the extra steps?  Pretty much.  Pockets dry faster than most AIO’s and are generally cheaper.  I do wish the laundry tabs were closer to the actual tab, so that when I change the baby I could just pinch it closed rather than seek out the tab farther in.  I have to look for it.  Some diapers you don’t need to do this.

Bang for the Buck: ✫✫✫✫ The 4.0 is the same price as the 3.0 was: 17.95.  bumGenius! keeps their prices consistent among retailers.  It is hard to find a “sale” on them.  However, they are worth the investment.  My 3.0′s have lasted for almost 2 years.  I am hopeful that the improved hook and loop will last on the 4.0, and replaceable elastic will also contribute to their life span.  You will see that a few hundred dollars for a stash of 4.0′s will still be far less than the thousands of dollars you would have spent on disposables.

Performance ✫✫✫✫✫ I am going to say that I have had no leaks, no fit issues, nothing with the 4.0.  I was new to cloth when I started with the 3.0 and did experience leaks due to my repelling issues.  I have used these overnight with both inserts and I also had no leaks.  I do prefer fitteds overnight but I was happy to report dry sheets!

Fit ✫✫✫✫ I can at this time only speak to the fit on my toddler.  He is still on the middle rise snap (has been for a very long time) so he has growing room.  In the video you can see a comparison to the 3.0 in terms of the change in rise.  While it isn’t a massive jump I figure it will help increase the time babies can wear these.  He doesn’t get red marks from elastic.  The diapers aren’t terribly bulky with one insert.

Overall- I am very happy with the 4.0, as I was with the 3.0.  Like I said, these are really great for any parents first starting out.  They don’t have bells and whistles like some diapers, and they don’t want to.  You need to start somewhere and learn how to cloth diaper.  These are simple enough to do that.  Not everyone loves microfiber inserts because they can build up the stinkies.  Microfiber is a more affordable insert option, but if you want you can always upgrade to a hemp/cotton/bamboo/zorb insert at a later time.

Where to buy: Pretty much any cloth diaper store.  But, if you want, you can support my blog by buying yours at Kelly’s Closet.

I purchased (2) bumGenius! 4.0′s to review from Kelly’s Closet.

Gro Via All in Two (Hybrid) Review

Kelly’s Closet provided a Gro Via Hybrid for me to make a comparison video for their blog.  But I still wanted write my review and compare the function of the Gro Via to the Gro Baby.  The Gro Baby inspired me to begin doing video reviews.  Since that first video I have done 61 others!  So thanks Kelly’s Closet for the chance to review the Gro Via AI2.

Ease of Use ★★★★ I do find switching the inserts out for a new one to be fairly simple, although depending on the age and wriggliness of your baby it might take longer. More because you are trying to keep them out of trouble than because they are moving, which means you can’t be snapping the soaker in because your hands are tied up. Once the new soaker is in if you have the velcro version of the Gro Via is a very easy application, if you have snaps it is easy too, but you have 4 snaps to affix. The only tough part is closing the laundry tabs and getting underneath those hoops. It is tricky when the aplix is very sticky.

Bang for the Buck ★★★★ Being that the Gro Via is an All in Two you can save a lot of money with this system. Buying 6-10 shells and 20-36 soakers would be all you need, depending on the age of the child.

Performance ★★★★ I have had a good experience so far. The soakers are absorbent, and there is the option of adding a booster if you need it. There have been times I have changed him and the insert is SOAKED but no leaks. Works overnight for us but not might for those very heavy wetters. I do enjoy the addition of PUL backing on the soakers. This makes me feel better about using multiple soakers in a row since the shell is not very wet. I don’t have to air the shell out between use.

Fit ★★★★★ The Gro Via has improved the sizing of their diaper compared to the Gro Baby. They have added more rise which has also improved the size of the thighs. While the thighs do still seem on the smaller end compared to some other one size diapers, they work well for my average sized toddler. And they size down really small. I plan on using these for my newborn when he is here.

Overall- I am very happy with the improvements made by Gro Via. They listened to their customers and addressed the issues people were having with the aplix. I had those same issues with the aplix wearing out. At this point it is very stick and I expect the laundry loops will help over time. The PUL backed soakers are brilliant and they make this an easier to use system. Gro Via also make disposable inserts for travel, which, while not as absorbent as a disposable, are better for your baby if you HAVE to use them for travel.

Mother-Ease Sandy’s Fitted and Airflow Cover Review

Mother-Ease Sandy’s Fitted and Airflow Cover Review

This diaper set was another I received almost a year ago for review, but my son did not fit them.  It was only recently that I tried them again and they fit him.  I know I have had many requests to review the Sandy’s Fitted and Air Flow cover from Mother-Ease Cloth Diapers and I knew I would get to, someday!  Enjoy the video and review!

Ease of Use ✰✰As a fitted and cover go, these aren’t that time consuming or complicated.  You have 4 snaps to affix for the fitted and 4 for the cover.  This is 8 all together, less than some fitteds have!  It is very easy when applying on your baby to figure out which snap will work for your baby.  These products are both sized so there aren’t very many choices.  Easy to remove and toss in the pail as well.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The Sandy’s Fitted is 10.75, a super low price to a fitted that works as well as it does.  The Airflow Cover is also extremely affordable at 12.75.  Just adding two or three of each of these is a small investment for nighttime diapering.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ While these work just fine during the day, I find them best for overnight.  During the day we like pockets for convenience and trimness.  But for night time fitteds have been shown to work best for my son.  He isn’t bothered by feeling wetness so we can swing it.  He wakes up leak free in these.  The first time I used the cover he had some red marks on his thighs so I was worried about using it overnight.  I did it one snap looser on the thighs from then on and no red marks, plus no leaks.  I did use the booster it came with for overnight.

Fit ✰✰✰ The sizes were very confusing to me.  Some stores only have certain sizes, but on the Mother-Ease website they list quite a few choices.  I believe I have the M/L cover.  This fits 20-27 pounds.  It did not fit until around 22 pounds.  The nature of the cover is that it is loose, so even if you get one in the mail and you think it is too large, try it on.  I was dubious it would fit him then but it did.  The Sandy’s is even more confusing.  The sizes go Newborn, Small, Large.  There is no Medium.  We received the Large, which fits 20-35 pounds.  He still has plenty of room to grow in this, and even though it isn’t snug on him it does fit and work.

Overall- For those parents who are concerned about air circulation in the diaper or who are looking for an excellent night time solution, I would suggest trying this combo.  While we won’t likely be using this in our daytime rotation it will be making it into our night time line up for sure.  The fitted is my favorite of the two; it is extremely soft and absorbent, as well as comfortable.  It would also work really great underneath a wool cover.  It will not fit well under certain, more “bikini cut” covers like the Kissaluvs Marvel OS.  The Airflow can work with just about any fitted or prefold.  So, not the most adorable diapers but they are very effective!

Where to buy: Mother-ease.com

Diapers were received free of charge from Mother-Ease for the purposes of this review. All opinions expressed are 100% my own and genuine.

Antsy Pants Cloth Diaper Review

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The Antsy Pants pull on cloth diaper is so super simple to put on and off of your toddler.  Since my son can be particularly “antsy” some days these have been awesome to use.  I can pull them on him while he is standing or laying down.  He never did make a solid mess in them, but if he had I could have also unsnapped it to avoid having the mess be slid down his legs.  The only reason I wouldn’t give it a 5 is that to put the insert in (which we didn’t use much) you need to put in in the slot on the inside of the diaper.  You have to fold it in a way that fits and then put it in.  If you dno’t use the insert and have these more as a trainer then it is definitely a 5 star.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The Antsy Pants are a unique item.  They work just like pull ups but have the benefit of being reusable and way cute.  The diaper runs 25.oo unless you buy them in packs, so you can get them as low as 21.00.  I think if you are trying to potty learn or EC your toddler these are worth the price for the convenience.  I would like a non waterproof version also so I could tell if we did miss a tinkle.  But, I still love these for when we are going for potty only!

Performance ✰✰✰✰ These are perfect for what I think of them for, training They pull up and down easy, they hold a miss without an insert and more than that with the insert.  I personally wouldn’t use this as a diaper when I think he is going to be in it for a while.  I prefer it when we are using the potty.  They will still work for that just fine with the insert.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ These fit so cute on my son.  I have a red and yellow pair and they look like superman undies.  They have a bikini style and cover less of his butt than a diaper.  Might not be good if he did have a solid mess in them… and worse for a less than solid mess.  I referenced the size chart to choose his size and they fit well.

Overall- I am really happy with this diaper.  It has made potty learning easier when we know we are working on it.  You can pull some traditional cloth diapers up and down but it isn’t near as easy as this.  Plus they look so cute on him I just love it!  I wouldn’t buy a ton but I would definitely buy a few more to ease potty time on mommy and toddler.

Goodmama One Review

I know I have been meaning to post this review for a long time.  I bought the diaper myself to review it since I knew so many people were wanting a video review!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰ Goodmamas and snaps are synonymous.  Each tab has 3 snaps that need to be secured, so while putting the diaper on you need to secure 6 snaps total.  This can be no big deal, or torture depending on your baby/ toddler’s temperament.  To size the diaper, you can just fold the rise over, which reveals more snaps.  When left unfolded, those snaps will be against the baby’s skin.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ The ONE is close to 30.00.  You are paying mostly for the cuteness factor and the rayon from bamboo which makes up the interior of the diaper.  You really only buy this diaper because you love the way it looks.

Performance ✰✰✰ I experienced a good number of leaks in the beginning.  The wetness wicked onto the decorative material on the front of the diaper around the legs.  I contacted Goodmama and they offered to help me troubleshoot.  I tried working with how I was sizing it and between that and perhaps some extra washes (prepping) it didn’t leak through the legs.

Fit ✰✰✰ The diaper isn’t the trimmest.  Even the fitteds are a little bulky since they use quite a few layers of rayon from bamboo.  Trimness doesn’t mean the most to me.  The rise can be adjusted but I don’t feel this would fit a baby until they get some length and chunk on them.  The legs weren’t as snug as I would like to hold in leaks, but I never had any solid waste leak out.

Overall-  I do enjoy how cute the diaper is, and always appreciate softness next to the baby.  I don’t like that the snaps are not hidden, so when unfolded, they are against the baby’s skin.  The only way to avoid that is to buy socks that go over those snaps.  It is absorbent enough, but I always worry about him leaking while wearing it so I don’t leave it on for long or use it while we are out.  If you like the look of GM’s I would much rather get the fitteds.  At home you can use them coverless.  There are tons of people who do love the ONE’s, but I am not in love.

Easy Fit from Bummis Review

As with a lot of diapers I have reviewed, I was first introduced to the Easy Fit at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas back in September.  There were two stand out diapers, this one, and the Marvel AIO.  Both diapers featured a “tongue” style, where the abosrbent insert agitates out for washing but stays attached.  So in essence they are an All in One, but do require stuffing the insert back in.  The Easy Fit is different in that the “insert” is touching the baby, but is very long, so you stuff it back inside.  It makes it double up while the baby is in the diaper.  The materials are luxurious and soft, and the PUL is very durable.  The diaper is made by Tots Bots, a UK company.  Bummis is now distributing them here in the US and Canada, and I am so glad!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰✰ This is about as easy as it gets!  Putting it on takes seconds and taking it off is as easy, just attach the laundry tabs.  Since the insert is really attached but agitates out, you don’t need to pull anything out before washing.  It will be hanging out once it is washed and dried, but putting it back in also takes seconds.  The bonus is that it takes far less time to dry than a traditional All in One.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ You are not only paying for the convenience factor, the bamboo, and the quality of the materials, but also the importation.  The diaper is made in the UK and imported by Bummis.  I do love it though, but if I had to pay for it I would only buy a couple.  I couldn’t afford to make them my whole stash.  But if you can, more power to you!

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ Perfect.  The soaker is 2 layers, microfiber and rayon from bamboo.  There is room in the pocket for more inserts if you need them.  I didn’t need any extra though.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ Like most snap down rise diapers, I don’t expect this to fit a newborn.  I have room for one more snap so it will fit a larger toddler.   The legs never left red marks.

Overall-  I am so in love with this diaper.  The colors are vibrant and modern and I love every single one.  The only thing that bugged me was that the bamboo attracts every single rogue velcro tab that has lost a laundry tab.  It seems to have 2-4 diapers attached to it in some way once it is out of the dryer.

GEN-Y Couture Diaper Cover Review

This monday I am doing a video review of the GEN-Y couture cloth diaper cover.  These covers are fun and you can get them in designer prints.  I first learned about them while researching for my Cloth Diapers Made in the US and Canada list.  GEN-Y covers are made in the USA.  They also donated a cover to Fluffy Christmas.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The GEN-Y cover is side snapping.  While some people find side snapping diapers to be harder than traditional diapers, it is a matter of practice.  Because these are sized covers, the snaps are closer together than a one size diaper, so you might have trouble picking the right snaps at first.  Your main job is going to be putting on whatever goes on underneath, be it a fitted, prefold, flat, or contour.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ These covers are a little fancier than your traditional PUL cover.  The outer layer is a fun designer print (thus more expensive).  I’d also like to point out that the covers are made in the USA!  While you can certainly get covers for less, you pay a premium for the cuteness factor and the fact that these do not wick like many other cotton print outer covers!

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ This cover is very leak proof.  Even after a few hours I never saw any wicking, something similar print outer covers do if left on for a while.  I still like to only use print outer covers during the day so I didn’t use this cover overnight.  I was still impressed with it!  You should note that you won’t be able to trifold a prefold and place it inside like some other covers.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ The GEN-Y cover comes in sizes, with 3 waist/ hip adjustment snaps for a variable fit within each size.  This is especially good if you need more room for larger thighs.  That extra snap or two can keep your baby comfortable and possible prevent red marks.

Overall-  I thought the cover worked extremely well.  The fact that it is loose fitting (but will squish under clothes) means a little more airflow inside the cover.  You can choose from designer prints not usually found on diaper covers and not worry about wicking.  The way the cover is cut reminds me a bit of girl’s panties…  Even with the manly tattoo print I couldn’t get the image of panties out of my head.  That is nothing against the cover, just a personal thing.  I  think I would rather personally use the cover on a girl.

Wet bag review- GENY-Y also sent along a fun hanging wet bag for me to review.  This one is long with a cute handle (this one had skull and crossbones) and the PUL was a mint green.  I usually use a diaper pail, but for the purposes of the review I used a hanging wet bag.  A friend recently mentioned she was going to put a second wet bag in her bathroom for poopy diapers and I realized what a good idea that was.  This was the perfect wetbag for the job.  It isn’t large enough for days worth of diapers, but it would be good for 1-2 poopy diapers a day for 2-3 days.  I also used it on a few day trips, keeping it in my car and putting my soiled diapers inside.  I can tell you the smells stayed in well and I never felt moisture on the outside of the bag.

Bella Bottoms Incredibellas One Size Review

One of the benefits of researching all of the cloth diapers made in the US and Canada was that I came across brands I was not familiar with.  Let’s face it: there are tons of diaper brands out there, big and small, and I don’t know them all!

Bella Bottoms, a brand of diapers made in Austin, TX, only recently added the Incredibellas One Size pockets diaper to their lineup.  This diaper has snap closures, a fold over and snap down rise adjustment, and pocket openings in the front and back so no unstuffing!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The Incredibellas sizing adjustment was very intuitive for me.  As shown in the video, the rise folds over on the top of the diaper, and snaps down.  Then  snaps facing the correct direction are exposed that you can use.  There are two settings of the fold over/ snap down rise, and the third setting is completely unfolded.  For every day use it is very easy to put on and take off.  There are a total of 4 snaps to affix, two on each tab.  When you are ready to take the diaper off you don’t even need to remove the insert because it agitates out in the wash.  You can stuff from the front or back of the diaper as well, the front opening is very wide and good for Daddy hands.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ This diaper is a great deal!  The diaper sells for 15.00 on Bella Bottom’s website, but is currently on sale for 12.00!  This includes an insert and doubler.  This diaper has features often found on pricier diapers, such as an insert that agitates out.  The coordinating snap colors is another feature I loved on this diaper.

Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ I was very impressed by the Incredibellas.  It is obviously a WAHM made diaper when you look at it, judging my the styling and stitching.  That doesn’t mean it doesn’t perform well (or look good!).  There were no leaking issues of any kind, though apparently I was using the doubler and not the soaker.  I am unsure if I misplaced the soaker it came with or what!  I just noticed this today!  The doubler is 100% cotton and bi-folds, and the soaker is 100% cotton and trifolds.  Apparently the doubler is all I need so I bet the soaker is even better!

Fit ✰✰✰✰ The first time I used the diaper I felt there was an issue with fit around my son’s waist, as if the snaps were too far apaprt for me to get a tight enough fit.  The second time I used it there was no issue at all.  I never had a problem with that afterwards.  Most diapers have a learning curve to get a good fit and application on the baby, and even an experienced diaper tester can have trouble.  With snaps there is always that chance of having an odd fit when you are in between snaps.  These are a tinier bit farther apaprt than most so that may have been my issue. I have been reaching for this diaper a lot though, because it is really trim!  It gives my son a little less of a fluffy booty!  As for the rise adjustments, I can tell it gets very small, but with no newborn to test it on (yet!) I can’t speak to the fit.

Overall- I am very impressed with this diaper.  I had never heard of it before, but I hope after my review that you give it some consideration.  It is very well made (the label tag started fraying but the label was not made by the same folks making the diaper… so don’t fault it for that!) and you really can’t beat the price on these!

Cheeky Diapers One Size Cover Video Review

cheekylogoI love a gal with a sense of humor, and I think Beth,  the WAHM behind  Cheeky Diapers, has a great one!  I can’t get over what a great name she came up with for her diapers!  And, if you visit her website you will see that she is really a Cheeky mom!  The graphics are perfect for the brand name, and the ingeniuos “design your own diaper” program is a fun adventure.  We have absolutely similar fabric tastes, so much so that I had a hard time choosing!

You can enter the giveaway here.

PS.  I am trying a new video editing software, so be kind.  I had trouble dubbing due to some video choppiness, so I was getting lost…  working on these issues to better serve you!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The mechanics of the diaper cover are simple enough.  You have two options,: you can snap the cover, or velcro.  In actuality, when you are snapping the diaper, you are velcroing it as well.  But when you velcro it, you don’t always have to snap it.  The rise folds over for smaller babies, so as you are putting it on you can fold it over depending on the size of the baby, then affix your snaps or velcro.  To remove undo and use your laundry tabs.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ The one size Cheeky Diaper cover is $15!  This is a great price for such an adorable cover!  I am in love with the fabric choices and the design/ cut of the diaper.  I had a blast designing mine!  If you don’t want snaps, it is $14!

Performance ✰✰✰✰ A cover of this nature is really good for day time use, and even better for showing off!  I would not recommend using this as an overnight cover, simply because the cotton knit on the outside could wick.  I did not experience wicking, but I am well aware that my son is not a heavy wetter at all.  Obviously, it is your decision!  I just think designer covers should be for the daytime.  Naps are a toss up, depending on how long your baby naps and if they are heavy wetters.  I didn’t experience leaks with the diaper at all, or wicking of any sort.

Fit ✰✰✰ The fit for my son was great in the legs, but a little high in the rise.  There wasn’t a way to fold it down just a tad, like I needed.  It was completely functional at this height, but for under clothes I would like it to be a little lower.  No one size diaper adjustment is completely perfect when it folds down.  You have the issue of the leg holes which might be too large..  I am not able to review this diaper on any other size settings.  Hopefully the video will give you an idea of the fit variations.

Testing a Cheeky Diaper Cover!

Cheeky Diapers Cover!

Overall- I would give these covers a shot.  I know there are a lot of WAHM diapers and covers that are adorable, but these offer some unique improvements and the designs are fabulous!  You can design your own diaper without emailing back and forth and possibly having a misunderstanding that results in a diaper you don’t want.  With the “deisgn your own diaper” you see exactly what you are getting.  Granted, it is a drawing, but you get a very good idea of  the end result.  Can you tell I love this?  LOVE IT!

Bummis Organic Cotton Prefold Kit Review

bummisBummis cloth diapers have been around for a long time.  I bought many used ones when I was pregnant, but this was when I was ignorant about cloth diapers.  I didn’t realize that they were more than used, they were abused.  While I could have been ok using them, I bought some other covers instead and gave those away.  I only used them a few times and didn’t have any problems with them, the laundry tabs were just shot.

I was excited to get another opportunity to try Bummis, and this time I was going to get the chance to review the entire iParenting Award winning Organic Cotton Prefold Kit in the Baby (medium, 15-30 lbs) size.  I looked at the regular kit while I was pregnant, and tried talking my husband into it.  Instead I bought all used diapers and less than quality prefolds.  I know now the mistake I made. Cheap doesn’t always equal better, and I wasn’t happy using prefolds.  I switched to pockets and didn’t attempt prefolds again for a long time.

Bummis is also an all around great company.  They manufacture most of their items in Canada and they are a caring company.  When I contacted them about donating a diaper to Fluffy Christmas the response was not, “Ok,” but, “We will donate a Baby size Organic Cotton Prefold kit.”  That kit went to a very deserving family, along with a couple extras.  I can’t wait to get pictures of the baby in a Super Brite!

About Bummis:

Our mission is to make it easy for you to use cloth diapers simply because we think that all babies would love to be wearing them! They are so soft and comfy ….

Cloth diapers are also affordable, easy to use, and super easy to wash.

We manufacture and distribute hard working, functional and great looking products.

Ease of Use ✰✰✰ The Bummis covers and prefolds can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make them. Because they have a handy panel up front, as shown in the video, you can trifold a prefold and place it in the cover. I would personally use a snappi (or pins for the brave) on babies who have loose stools. If you simply trifold the prefold you might very well have poop leak into the cover, and you will either have to wipe the poop from the cover or use a new one. The kit has 4 covers in the Baby size kit, enough to do 1.5-2 days between washing, and the Infant has 6 covers, which would last about 2 full days between washing. The infant kit comes with 24 prefolds, also enough for 2 days, and the Baby has 18, good for 2 days as well!  Because the covers are velcro, once you have the prefold inside or on the baby, that step is easy peasy. To change, and put in your wet bag for washing, attach velcro laundry tabs.
Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰✰ For around 160 dollars you have enough diapers at your disposal to last you until they change sizes. If you use both kits, in infant and baby size, you will spend roughly 336 dollars. Many babies never need a size large diaper, and the Medium Bummis fit until 30 pounds. I would personally buy travel wet bags, and an extra large wet bag for when you are washing the super fab Bummis wet bag that comes with the kit.
Performance ✰✰✰✰✰ Sometimes the simplest diapering solutions are the best. With the kit you get everything you need. The fleece liners are made from recycled polyester, and the flushable liners really come in handy if you lack a diaper sprayer or when you are out of the house. The prefolds are really absorbent and soft. I even used them for overnight and there were no leaks. My son is sleeping about 12 hours a night now. The covers are nice and thick enough, and I feel that they are substantial. You can’t complain about the nifty, gender neutral patterns the covers come in either.
Fit ✰✰✰✰ The Medium covers and prefolds in the kit fit my son well, with a little room to spare in the cover. Not enough to have a leak, the legs and back were tight enough, but there was enough looseness for more growing. The prefold, when trifolded, fit perfectly inside the cover. Using a snappi, they fit well with the angel fold, which is what I prefer. They aren’t “trim” when compared to an AIO, and you get a booty shelf in the back if you place the prefold in the cover instead of using a snappi.
Overall- There is a reason that expecting moms register for this kit. It has virtually everything you need to cloth diaper, and they don’t skimp on the quality or quantity. Instead of giving you plain covers, you get some of the cutest patterns Bummis make. And, the wet bag can’t even be purchased alone. I used the bag while I was out of town for 2.5 weeks. I never wanted to be without it, so I washed quickly and used a travel wetbag in the meantime. I think I went 4 days without washing once, and I still had more room, but not enough diapers to continue. Plus, I wouldn’t want to. Even after 4 days the smell didn’t seep through, though once I opened the zipper the stink could have knocked you over. Prefolds are diapers that are versatile in fit and use, and they last forever. Since you can hang the covers dry, I don’t see a reason this kit shouldn’t last you through 2, or more, children if you never put those covers in a dryer. To keep your prefold soft, try Ecover fabric softener, the only diaper safe softener! This kit is all kinds of fab!
