Bummis Super Lite Cover Review

I really wanted to try the Super Lite because I am a huge Bummis fan and because it looks so adorable!  DOn’t ask me why, but I’m in love with the white stitching.  This review is timely because this cover works superbly with a pad folded flat! If you are waiting for my Flats Challenge Link check back later today!

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩✩ The Super Lite is definitely one of the easiest, if not the easiest, cover I’ve ever used. The closure uses a nice hook and loop with a wide strip and big tabs. This is going to be super easy for anyone to use! Plus, the SuperLite is sized so you never have to adjust the rise. Just grab and go.  I used this cover with flats, fitteds, and prefolds.  It worked best on trimmer options for me.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ I love that the Super Lite is only 9.95. There are people who want sized cloth diapers and covers and Bummis always caters to those people. The price of 9.95 is very affordable for a quality and durable cover that will last through more than one child. And if you only need if for one, when the child outgrow it I bet it will hold its resale value very well.

Performance ✩✩✩✩ As long as a cover is made properly and it fits properly there should be no leaks. This is the case for the SuperLite, which worked great for day and nights. Not a leak in sight.

Fit ✩✩✩ This is the only issue I had with the Super Lite. Ev is a chunky boy, his thighs are bigger than my arms! We purchased a Medium which should fit babies 16-30 pounds. Ev is 19 pounds but we are having some red marks on his super chunky thighs and we are about to max out the waist! I’m holding out hope that he will once again fit well in this diaper (and others) once he starts crawling and thins out. I think then it will be a much better fit and the red marks won’t be an issue. I’ve discontinued using it for long periods (overnight) since the red marks were much worse then.

Overall: I’m really happy to have such a simple cover in my stash and hope to use it more in the future. It can be wipes clean very easily. Plus, I just love the style of it! The simple white stitching contrast on the tabs, the modern and bold colors, and the clean front just make is so nice to look at. I bought the purple because it was so stunning. Boys can wear purple, don’t judge!

Where to Buy: DiaperJunction and most other cloth diaper retailers. (affiliate link)

Tetro Tying Fitted Review

Ease of Use ✩✩✩ The Tetro Tying fitted is definitely different than an aplix or snapping diaper. The string is relatively short so even though you can tie a bow a double knot is probably easier. The rise simply folds over for sizing, which you will need to do for every change.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩ Unfortunately this fitted does have a high price tag at 21.95. It is an imported item and is cotton. The price of cotton is rising so expect all cotton products to be more expensive soon, if they aren’t already. It is a one size fitted so it should fit for quite a while, and since it doubles for ECing it is multi-purpose.

Performance ✩✩✩✩ Even though the fitted is trim it was never totally soaked. I would use a doubler at night to be safe, which worked well.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ My 19 lb baby had no trouble fitting into this fitted. He did have the rise folded over some which means there is still room to grow. The tabs can cross over slightly if needed. Sometimes the flap would slide down while he was wearing it, but he had a cover on. If he had been coverless for ECing it would have been more problematic.

Overall: The Tetro fitted would probably be best for coverless, ECing time. It is very adorable even though the colors fade after washing (that is to be expected with flannel). It is definitely unique!

Kawaii Goodnights Heavy Wetter and Square Tab Cloth Diapers Review

Kawaii Goodnights Heavy Wetter and Square Tab Cloth Diapers Review

Say that title three times fast…
It is finally here, the Kawaii Review! I get requests every week asking me to review this diaper. At first I really didn’t want to; they were hard to find and I wasn’t sure of the quality. But then a friend bought some and said they were her favorite diapers in her entire stash! If that was the case then I knew I should at least give them a chance. I bought two that I felt were the most popular in their line-up. They do make many varieties, all of which have funny names. I am torn about these diapers. They look to be copies of other brands on the market, this is true. But so do other mainstream brands depending on how you look at it. The biggest thing to understand is that these diapers are made in China and no matter how hard I try I cannot find an answer about HOW they are made. Most cloth diaper companies who move their production overseas are very involved in how their diapers are made. This means they oversee the conditions of their facilities and have strict quality control measures in place. These diapers were never a WAHM brand that I can tell, they are strictly for profit. Their pricing is also considerably lower than others in the same category, often less than 10.00. I will let you decide how you feel about purchasing the diaper. Personally, I would rather spend a little more and know there is a Mom running the company (in most cases) and that the production is ethical. Some people don’t have the money to spend but NEED to use cloth to save money. Now, onto the review. I am lumping both diapers together since the only difference between the Goodnights and the Square Tab seems to be thicker PUL on the GN and the tab/snaps configuration on the Square Tab.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Both the GN and ST (Square Tab) have snaps that need to be fastened. The ST has 3 on each tab, the GN has only 2 on each. When fastening the ST you need to use the bottom hip snap first, which can sometimes make the process take longer. Each diaper needs to be stuffed before use and also unstuffed before washing, as do most pocket diapers.  The GN with velcro version would get a 4 star.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩✩ At face value you are getting an amazing deal. Depending on where you buy these diapers you can find them for 6-7 dollars up to 10. Shipping will factor in and add to the cost unless you pay for upfront and get free shipping from certain stores. Do they last? I can’t say… I have had them for a couple of months and in my case everything is working fine. I encourage you to seek out other reviews. My friend has had them much longer than I have and she is reporting that they are still working great. You also get 2 inserts per diaper.

Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ Ok…. I can’t deny that these diapers work well. They do. I have even chosen to use them overnight with success. I typically don’t like pockets for nights.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ Both the GN and ST have the same 3 step rise system. They claim to fit babies 8-37 pounds. On my youngest he is wearing the diapers on their middle rise but they are still bulky looking. If they fit an 8 pound baby they will look bulky.  The GN doesn’t have crossover snaps, the ST does.  I have read many online accounts saying these diapers caused red marks more than others. I have had the same experience which is why I stopped using them overnight. My son would wake with deeper red marks than I felt was acceptable. If you watch the video you can see how chunky my son’s legs are. That may be the reason.

Overall- These diapers absolutely do the job for us but I will only use them for shorter periods of time in the day since I know they can leave red marks. They do happen to come in some pretty cute prints which is a big draw. They also have a minky version.

Where to Buy: My affiliate, Kelly’s Closet, has a few varieties, including both the Goodnight and Square Tab.  The GN is 11.95, the Square Tab is 10.95.  Other stores carry more versions.

If you have used these diapers, I’d love it if you leave a comment and share your experience, good or bad.  This review will see many eyes!

Thirsties Duo Fitted and Duo Wrap Review

Thirsties Duo Fitted and Duo Wrap Review

I began using Thirsties way back in 2008 when my son was born.  We used their XS covers and prefolds and they worked great.  Since then they have introduced their dual size line up.  I have already reviewed their Duo Diaper, and now I am reviewing their Duo fitted and Duo Wrap which was sent by Madison Organics.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Fitteds seem intimidating to many because they often seem to have a huge array of snaps, maybe because the “popular” fitted out there is snap city.  There is a snaps version of the Duo fitted but it is super simple, and since the fitted has give, it goes on like butter.  They also have a velcro version.  Same for the cover, which comes in both snaps or velcro and is simple to use.  They both use a snap down rise with 3 options.  You will likely have it sized already before it goes in the baby so it isn’t an issue.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ The Duo fitted is 17 and the wraps are 12.25.  Usually you only need 4-6 covers, and around 12-26 fitteds depending on the age of your baby.  I think a whole stash of these would be a little pricey but having a few for night time would be a great idea.

Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ Can I say, LOVE?  Oh my, I love these fitteds and I didn’t expect that.  I knew they would work, but I didn’t think they would become my new favorite overnight diaper!  With no extra stuffing these hold up all night (usually 10-12 hours) and the cover keeps everything in.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ Since both the fitted and the cover and dual sized my son should have plenty of room left to grow.  They do say they begin fitting at 18 pounds but my son is 17 pounds and needs to be on the middle rise snap.  As I said in the video, the fitted looks extremely comfortable and it comforms to his tummy so well!  The cover doesn’t leave any red marks or show other signs of discomfort.

Overall- Both the fitted and the wrap are easy to use, not too bulky compared to many other combinations on the market.  The innovative way the soaker is sewn in makes for no bulk when changing the rise settings.  The fitted does take longer to dry than one dryer cycle.

Where to buy: Madison Organics

itti bitti Tutto One Size Cloth Diaper Review

itti bitti Tutto One Size Cloth Diaper Review

itti bitti not only makes sized diapers like their itti bitti D’lish, they also have the bitti tutto, a one size diaper designed to fit babies 8-44 pounds!  It begins fitting a young baby but will last longer than the large of their sized diaper, which only fits up to 37 pounds.  I’ll admit it, this diaper scared me sh*tless when I saw it.  It is probably the most intimidating diaper I have ever seen.  There are snaps at every corner and the soaker combinations, while useful, are endless!  I will try my best to review this diaper so that you understand how it works.  But I won’t be offended if you don’t!

Ease of Use ✩✩ Yikes!  Is all I have to say.  I am probably the most experienced woman on the planet when it comes to different cloth diapers, or right up there!  I’ve tried over 100 diapers, and none are like this.  That isn’t a bad thing…. but this diaper has a very high learning curve.  You will need a video demonstration, which is where I come in.  Like the bitti D’lish SIO, you will need to do some assembly after the diaper is washed and out of the dryer.  Once you have your soaker snapped to the size that fits, you won’t need to resnap until the baby sizes up.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ While this is also a very spendy diaper like the bitti D’lish, this is a one size!  Ecpect to pay around 26.00, including soaker.  Since you will get far more use out of it than the sized bitti’s, the money spent makes a little more practical sense.  It also comes with 3 soakers, which are very abosrbent and make the diaper highly customizable.

Performance ✩✩✩✩ Once you spend some time getting your settings where you want them you will find this diaper to give a trim fit and to be very absorbent.  I wouldn’t use it overnight since minkee tends to wick, and also I prefer fitteds and covers or a diaper with a smooth inner lining.  I have had leaks but this was before I added another soaker.  Added it, problem solved.  Oh, and the poo fence, it works!  Holds in that runny breastfeeding poop and prevents up the back leakage.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ The Tutto is meant to fit babies 8-44 pounds!  Unlike many minky diapers, even while snapped to a lower rise, this diaper maintains it’s trimness somehow.  I love the way it fits Everett.  We have 1 set of snaps exposed for him, and 2 exposed on my toddler.  I’m not sure if the 3rd hip snap is needed, but if you really hate wing droopage and this has been an issue for you, you have the option.  At least they have a suedecloth cover over it so the snap isn’t exposed to the baby’s skin.  They have definitely put some thought into the design.

Overall- If I had my choice from the itti bitti line, I would pick the Tutto and the Small bitti D’lish SIO for the infant stage.  The poop fence is a pretty awesome feature, and the Tutto comes in the same stunningly beautiful colors (18 in all) as their D’lish line.  Pricey, yes.  Functional, also yes.  The rise snaps match the fabric so this adds to the overall attractiveness of the design.  The tutto also has a more realistic size that should fit babies until they potty train.  The tutto is the best selling one size diaper in Australia, if that tells you anything.

Where to buy: My affiliate, Kelly’s Closet, will have the itti bitti line in March.

Samples of the diapers mentioned were sent for the purposes of the review.  No other compensation was received and all opinions are 100% genuine and my own.

Babykicks 3g Review

Babykicks 3g Review

Babykicks has released a newer and improved version of their Bumboo Pocket diaper, now called the 3g.  This diaper shares most of the features with the Bumboo (front stuffing pocket, bamboo fleece lining, fleece gussets, multi-colored coordinating snaps) but has an improved sizing and comes in colors as well.  The insert is still hemp, but has been improved to better fit the 3g.  Babykicks has a few fun videos you might enjoy viewing as well: Babykicks Youtube Channel.  You can also view my previous review of the first version of the Bumboo. I am also hosting a giveaway which end on Jan 10.  Go enter!

Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Since the 3g is still a side snapping diaper, and the diaper itself it still more difficult to stuff than most pockets, I gave it a 3 star.  To adjust the size isn’t that hard (unless you are using the newborn setting, this one takes some practice).  Snapping the side snap first is the easiest way to put on this diaper.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The 3g is still 18.50, right at the same price point as many other one size diapers.  Plus you get a thirsty hemp insert that is great for overnights.  The fleece is bamboo, another more luxe feature compared to most OS pockets.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ This diaper is very absorbent on both kids.  I preferred using it for my youngest.  On the 3g I didn’t have any leaks on either kid, and the gussets performed wonderfully.
Fit ✩✩✩✩ The fit is improved on this diaper compared to the Bumboo.  This is partially because the insert is shaped to fit the diaper better, and the new contoured front.  Plus, the snaps on waist and rise have been adjusted to fit larger babies.  I found it extremely trim on my youngest son even with the rise snapped down. It looked great on him.  Same for my toddler, but with a different look since it was unsnapped more.
Overall- I like the new 3g more than the previous version.  Now that the diaper comes in colors, including the exclusive chocolate versions carried by Kelly’s Closet, you can get more than just the white with multi colored snaps.  I still think the fleece gussets are the best feature of the diaper.

Where to buy: Kelly’s Closet (including the exclusive chocolate colors) and Amazon.com (eligible for Prime shipping) (affiliate links)

bumGenius 4.0 Compared to bumGenius 3.0

bumGenius 4.0 Compared to bumGenius 3.0

If you have been reading my blog for a while you probably know that I am a “fan” of bumGenius! products.  I have been using their 3.0′s since my son fit into them (around 12-14 pounds, leak free) and their Elementals (Organic AIO‘s) since I bought a few when he was a couple of months old.  I have reviewed the 3.0 (BG 3.0 Review) and Elemental (Elemental- FMA BG Organic AIO- review) already.  I won’t say I was disappointed when they announced that the 3.0 was being discontinued since I knew the next diaper (I correctly predicted would be called 4.0) would be very similar with a few improvements.  The most obvious improvement they needed to make, improving the hook and loop closure and adding snaps, were both realized.  Bonus improvements: the ability to easily replace elastic and a higher rise.

They also added new colors, which I am not a huge fan of.  I will specifically say I am not a fan of their names.  Why must color names be so confusing?  Case in point:  I ordered 2 bumGenius! 4.0′s to review, one with hook and loop and one in snaps.  I ordered 2 of the new colors: Noodle and Bubble.  I didn’t double check what the colors were.  Bubble= lavender.  Let me ask you, when you think of a bubble, do you think of purple or blue?  Water=blue.  Bubbles=blue.  Also, the color Sweet reminds me of lavender or pink.  That is pale green.  Noodle is the light yellow, which does make sense.  Noodles are yellow, or pale yellow, and this is an accurate description of that color.  I do not like that I need to research the colors, which not all stores have listed with a description or photo (and photos don’t help since the colors are so pale, they all look the same) before I buy.  My son has a purple diaper.  So what?  Wanna fight about it?

New Color Guide:

Bubble= Light Lavender

Noodle= Light Yellow

Sweet= Light Green

Update: bumGenius has re-released their beloved “Brights” colors and has released a series of prints. You can view all of the new prints by heading to my blog post about theChelsea Perry Tiny Socialite Collection, it includes action shots of them all.

    My Review

Ease of Use ✫✫✫✫✫ The 4.0 doesn’t differ from the 3.0 in this regard.  I tell anyone who asks me about a good intro cloth diaper that they should try the 3.0 (now I say 4.0).  It is affordable, durable, easy to use with the hook and loop (and snaps), simple to find the right fit, and easy to take off.  You still need to affix the laundry tabs before washing, and you need to remove the insert.  You will need to restuff the diaper before baby wears it.  Is it easy?  Yes.  Is it as easy as an AIO? No.  Is it worth the extra steps?  Pretty much.  Pockets dry faster than most AIO‘s and are generally cheaper.  I do wish the laundry tabs were closer to the actual tab, so that when I change the baby I could just pinch it closed rather than seek out the tab farther in.  I have to look for it.  Some diapers you don’t need to do this.

Bang for the Buck: ✫✫✫✫ The 4.0 is the same price as the 3.0 was: 17.95.  bumGenius! keeps their prices consistent among retailers.  It is hard to find a “sale” on them.  However, they are worth the investment.  My 3.0′s have lasted for almost 2 years.  I am hopeful that the improved hook and loop will last on the 4.0, and replaceable elastic will also contribute to their life span.  You will see that a few hundred dollars for a stash of 4.0′s will still be far less than the thousands of dollars you would have spent on disposables.

Performance ✫✫✫✫✫ I am going to say that I have had no leaks, no fit issues, nothing with the 4.0.  I was new to cloth when I started with the 3.0 and did experience leaks due to my repelling issues.  I have used these overnight with both inserts and I also had no leaks.  I do prefer fitteds overnight but I was happy to report dry sheets!

Fit ✫✫✫✫ I can at this time only speak to the fit on my toddler.  He is still on the middle rise snap (has been for a very long time) so he has growing room.  In the video you can see a comparison to the 3.0 in terms of the change in rise.  While it isn’t a massive jump I figure it will help increase the time babies can wear these.  He doesn’t get red marks from elastic.  The diapers aren’t terribly bulky with one insert.

Overall- I am very happy with the 4.0, as I was with the 3.0.  Like I said, these are really great for any parents first starting out.  They don’t have bells and whistles like some diapers, and they don’t want to.  You need to start somewhere and learn how to cloth diaper.  These are simple enough to do that.  Not everyone loves microfiber inserts because they can build up the stinkies.  Microfiber is a more affordable insert option, but if you want you can always upgrade to a hemp/cotton/bamboo/zorb insert at a later time.

Where to buy: Pretty much any cloth diaper store.  But, if you want, you can support my blog by buying yours at Kelly’s Closet.

Gro Via All in Two (Hybrid) Review

Gro Via All in Two (Hybrid) Review

Kelly’s Closet provided a Gro Via Hybrid for me to make a comparison video for their blog.  But I still wanted write my review and compare the function of the Gro Via to the Gro Baby.  The Gro Baby inspired me to begin doing video reviews.  Since that first video I have done 61 others!  So thanks Kelly’s Closet for the chance to review the Gro Via AI2.

Ease of Use ★★★★ I do find switching the inserts out for a new one to be fairly simple, although depending on the age and wriggliness of your baby it might take longer. More because you are trying to keep them out of trouble than because they are moving, which means you can’t be snapping the soaker in because your hands are tied up. Once the new soaker is in if you have the velcro version of the Gro Via is a very easy application, if you have snaps it is easy too, but you have 4 snaps to affix. The only tough part is closing the laundry tabs and getting underneath those hoops. It is tricky when the aplix is very sticky.

Bang for the Buck ★★★★ Being that the Gro Via is an All in Two you can save a lot of money with this system. Buying 6-10 shells and 20-36 soakers would be all you need, depending on the age of the child.

Performance ★★★★ I have had a good experience so far. The soakers are absorbent, and there is the option of adding a booster if you need it. There have been times I have changed him and the insert is SOAKED but no leaks. Works overnight for us but not might for those very heavy wetters. I do enjoy the addition of PUL backing on the soakers. This makes me feel better about using multiple soakers in a row since the shell is not very wet. I don’t have to air the shell out between use.

Fit ★★★★★ The Gro Via has improved the sizing of their diaper compared to the Gro Baby. They have added more rise which has also improved the size of the thighs. While the thighs do still seem on the smaller end compared to some other one size diapers, they work well for my average sized toddler. And they size down really small. I plan on using these for my newborn when he is here.

Overall- I am very happy with the improvements made by Gro Via. They listened to their customers and addressed the issues people were having with the aplix. I had those same issues with the aplix wearing out. At this point it is very stick and I expect the laundry loops will help over time. The PUL backed soakers are brilliant and they make this an easier to use system. Gro Via also make disposable inserts for travel, which, while not as absorbent as a disposable, are better for your baby if you HAVE to use them for travel.

Mother-Ease Sandy’s Fitted and Airflow Cover Review

Mother-Ease Sandy’s Fitted and Airflow Cover Review

This diaper set was another I received almost a year ago for review, but my son did not fit them.  It was only recently that I tried them again and they fit him.  I know I have had many requests to review the Sandy’s Fitted and Air Flow cover from Mother-Ease Cloth Diapers and I knew I would get to, someday!  Enjoy the video and review!

Ease of Use ✰✰As a fitted and cover go, these aren’t that time consuming or complicated.  You have 4 snaps to affix for the fitted and 4 for the cover.  This is 8 all together, less than some fitteds have!  It is very easy when applying on your baby to figure out which snap will work for your baby.  These products are both sized so there aren’t very many choices.  Easy to remove and toss in the pail as well.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The Sandy’s Fitted is 10.75, a super low price to a fitted that works as well as it does.  The Airflow Cover is also extremely affordable at 12.75.  Just adding two or three of each of these is a small investment for nighttime diapering.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ While these work just fine during the day, I find them best for overnight.  During the day we like pockets for convenience and trimness.  But for night time fitteds have been shown to work best for my son.  He isn’t bothered by feeling wetness so we can swing it.  He wakes up leak free in these.  The first time I used the cover he had some red marks on his thighs so I was worried about using it overnight.  I did it one snap looser on the thighs from then on and no red marks, plus no leaks.  I did use the booster it came with for overnight.

Fit ✰✰✰ The sizes were very confusing to me.  Some stores only have certain sizes, but on the Mother-Ease website they list quite a few choices.  I believe I have the M/L cover.  This fits 20-27 pounds.  It did not fit until around 22 pounds.  The nature of the cover is that it is loose, so even if you get one in the mail and you think it is too large, try it on.  I was dubious it would fit him then but it did.  The Sandy’s is even more confusing.  The sizes go Newborn, Small, Large.  There is no Medium.  We received the Large, which fits 20-35 pounds.  He still has plenty of room to grow in this, and even though it isn’t snug on him it does fit and work.

Overall- For those parents who are concerned about air circulation in the diaper or who are looking for an excellent night time solution, I would suggest trying this combo.  While we won’t likely be using this in our daytime rotation it will be making it into our night time line up for sure.  The fitted is my favorite of the two; it is extremely soft and absorbent, as well as comfortable.  It would also work really great underneath a wool cover.  It will not fit well under certain, more “bikini cut” covers like the Kissaluvs Marvel OS.  The Airflow can work with just about any fitted or prefold.  So, not the most adorable diapers but they are very effective!

Antsy Pants Cloth Diaper Review

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The Antsy Pants pull on cloth diaper is so super simple to put on and off of your toddler.  Since my son can be particularly “antsy” some days these have been awesome to use.  I can pull them on him while he is standing or laying down.  He never did make a solid mess in them, but if he had I could have also unsnapped it to avoid having the mess be slid down his legs.  The only reason I wouldn’t give it a 5 is that to put the insert in (which we didn’t use much) you need to put in in the slot on the inside of the diaper.  You have to fold it in a way that fits and then put it in.  If you dno’t use the insert and have these more as a trainer then it is definitely a 5 star.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The Antsy Pants are a unique item.  They work just like pull ups but have the benefit of being reusable and way cute.  The diaper runs 25.oo unless you buy them in packs, so you can get them as low as 21.00.  I think if you are trying to potty learn or EC your toddler these are worth the price for the convenience.  I would like a non waterproof version also so I could tell if we did miss a tinkle.  But, I still love these for when we are going for potty only!

Performance ✰✰✰✰ These are perfect for what I think of them for, training They pull up and down easy, they hold a miss without an insert and more than that with the insert.  I personally wouldn’t use this as a diaper when I think he is going to be in it for a while.  I prefer it when we are using the potty.  They will still work for that just fine with the insert.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ These fit so cute on my son.  I have a red and yellow pair and they look like superman undies.  They have a bikini style and cover less of his butt than a diaper.  Might not be good if he did have a solid mess in them… and worse for a less than solid mess.  I referenced the size chart to choose his size and they fit well.

Overall- I am really happy with this diaper.  It has made potty learning easier when we know we are working on it.  You can pull some traditional cloth diapers up and down but it isn’t near as easy as this.  Plus they look so cute on him I just love it!  I wouldn’t buy a ton but I would definitely buy a few more to ease potty time on mommy and toddler.
