Call it laziness, but I had seen Grasshopper Diapers around here and there and never clicked to actually look at their diapers. It was a brand I wasn’t familiar with at all. When Lisa asked about a review I went to the website and was really impressed by the diapers I saw. I’m very glad I reviewed their Quick Dry Bamboo All in One diaper. I get a great feeling about their company just from our interactions. Lisa was very helpful in helping pick a size that would fit Ev. The diapers are Side Snapping All in Ones and come in size Small, Medium, or Large.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ The Grasshopper AIO is a side snapping diaper. If you have read my reviews in the past then you know already that I consider side snaps to be harder to learn and use than front closing diapers. The soaker is also more than an extra step. I had mixed success with it staying snapped during the washing/drying process. If it stayed then I only had to fold the sides under in preparation for putting away. If it came loose I had to re-snap it in after finding it in my laundry basket, and then put away or put on my son. Be careful when transporting the diaper, if you just hold it from one end then the soaker will come unfolded. I learned from experience. Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ The retail cost of a Grasshopper AIO is 22.95 for a Small, 23.95 for a Medium, and 24.95 for a Large. This isn’t way out there by any means, last week I reviewed a 29.00 diaper. If you were to use these exclusively and needed each size then yes, it would cost a lot of money. But most of us like to mix in more expensive diapers with our inexpensive ones. If you want to use these the most it makes sense to buy Mediums- of all diaper sizes babies are in those the longest. Many children never even make it to a Large. Reasons for the higher cost include the fact that they are made in Canada and workers receive a fair wage, they use quality materials (organic cotton/bamboo), and they are made to last from what I can tell. The insides have washed up very soft with no pilling so far. {I also used these diapers on my toddler overnight and they worked. He only wets a little bit when he goes. In theory they can pull up and down like a trainer since they snap on the sides, but the soaker tends to move around in the process so it has to be done carefully} Performance ✩✩✩ The way these diapers are designed can mean good or bad things in terms of leaks/ leak prevention. The entire inside of the diaper has organic cotton/bamboo, from tip to tip. I LOVE this because it means it is soft for the baby all around and there is little chance of any PUL touching their skin. Some kids are sensitive to this. In my case, it also contributed to some leaking through the tab. The moisture went right to the end of the tab and was wable to wick out to my son’s clothing if he was wearing any. Remember that he is a boy so he is peeing closer to the front of the diaper. When I would change him I could see where it was wet and it was concentrated at the front, then slowly moved to one or both tabs, usually just one. When this happened (Only 3 times, and we had 2 diapers to review for several weeks to give you an idea) it was fairly minimal but enough that if I had him on my hip I felt it twice on myself (which is how I was alerted to the issue). I don’t want to go into anatomy details but let’s just say he doesn’t point down as far as some boys might. Fit ✩✩✩✩ When I read the size chart I was honestly not sure where Everett would would belong. Mediums would possible be too small, and the Large would possibly be too big. I spoke to Lisa about it and she suggested the Large. This was the size that definitely fit, though I suspect a Medium would have worked but he would have been on one of the last settings for it. Once he grows more I also think the Large will start looking trimmer. He has lots of room in the waist and the rise isn’t too short so that has more room too. It looked very comfortable for him, there were never any red marks, something I appreciate. And like I mentioned before, the inside is all nice and soft. There are no snaps exposed to the baby at all. Sometimes we forget that babies might not like those snaps, even the smooth sides, touching their skin. The thought that went into making these diapers comfortable is very clear.
Ev showing off his Grasshopper
Overall: Even after mentioning that we had a leak I think it is important to stress that diapers all fit different babies differently. I have used plenty of diapers that worked great for us but leaked for others, and the other way around. The leaks were so infrequent that I didn’t fear using the diapers, in fact I reach for them quite a bit. Side Snapping, Sized diapers looks cleaner than One Size front closing. He actually showed off his Grasshopper at the NY State Fair. It was so hot that we left him without pants. Drying time was no longer than any of my other diapers thanks to the folding soaker design, something I LOVE. I also like that they have fun solid colors and coordinating snaps, even the two snaps on the butt make a cute addition and serve a purpose.
Grasshopper Diapers sent 2 of their Size Large Quick Dry Bamboo AIO‘s for review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are 100% my own and genuine.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩✩ This is right up there with the easiest fitteds to use. A velcro closing fitted really cuts down on time when you know you also have to add a cover on top. To size there are only two snaps, one on each side, to close. But as with all multi sized cloth diapers you won’t need to do this very often. Sometimes the snap in insert comes unsnapped int he washer/dryer so y ou will need to snap it back in before using if you need it. Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ The Bamboozle will run you 19.95, not a cheap diaper in comparison to others that are already waterproof. Funny enough, usually fitteds are more expensive that Pocket cloth diapers. Since fitteds also need a cover you will have to factor that into the cost. Still, finding a relatively trim fitted that works great for overnights is well worth the 20.00 if you have ever woken up to wet sheets (like I have before). There are cheaper fitteds that work as well, and more expensive fitteds that don’t. Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ WONDERFUL! This is a very absorbent diaper. It is soft, and has stayed soft through quite a few washes. It really does the job well, no complaints here. Fit ✩✩✩✩ There is quite a bit of room for growth on Ev. He is on the Size 2 on the middle snap so he has more room in the wiast and in the rise. I have no tried the Size 1 so I can’t tell you if it truly begins fitting at 5 pounds or if it lasts until 18 pounds. The Size 2 is said to start fitting at 9 pounds and up to 35 pounds. The stretch of the diaper does make it fit like a GLOVE. I’m telling you, it is a breeze to put on and get a wonderful fit. Overall:There are a ton of reasons to like this diaper. Top being the trimness (for a fitted) and second being the softness. The only drawback is also part of its attributes: the velcro. Tots Bots velcro is very strong but it is also rough and the edges are hard. Even the most experienced cloth diaper user might find that the velcro can rub on the baby’s tummy and/or thighs. It is something to be aware of and watch for. If you find red rubbing marks on areas around the velcro you need to re-assess the size setting, which might help avoid that problem, or be more careful when putting the velcro tabs together. Most of the time the cover will end up keeping them safe from the velcro. Where to buy: Diaper Junction *
A Bamboozle was sent by Bummis to be used in a video about Fitteds (not finished editing yet!) so I took the liberty of reviewing it as well. This diaper will be sent to Giving Diapers, Giving Hope, along with many others, soon. *means an affiliate link is in use. If you purchase anything through this link I will receive a small percentage, so thank you!
I hope this review of the Orange Diaper Co. Custom Fitted doesn’t come off as “gushing” but I just can’t help it. Sometimes I fall in love with a company and/or a diaper, and it shows! To learn more about Jenn and Orange Diaper Co. Autumn from All About Cloth Diapers interviewed her as well. Enjoy this review and my video demonstration and try not to be jealous of my adorable Orange Diaper Co. Fitted!
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Fitteds are always a more time consuming application process on a baby than a pocket or an All in One since you usually need to add a cover to the top. Even without a cover, this particular fitted has a total of 6 snaps to close, 3 on each tab. (You can order this fitted without any snaps, in which case you will need to use pins or a snappi with those that accept them). During the rolling/crawling phase using a 6 Snap diaper is a challenge (see video) however it can certainly be done.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ I will readily admit that I am not in the position to buy an entire stash of these fitteds since they are upwards of 30$ each. I do see the value in how they look (I could browse this store all day- she carries the BEST print selections) and would not mind adding just a few for looks. I would definitely choose these over another (unnamed) brand of similar style fitteds. If you want to impress a pregnant friend, the price of the diaper includes a gorgeous ribbon around the diaper and she also makes “Little Oranges” for newborns.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ I LOVE fitteds for overnight and this Orange Diaper Co. fitted didn’t let me down! The soaker is organic bamboo fleece and the lining is Organic Bamboo Velour (OBV- also called bamboo from rayon). If I use fitteds during the day I leave them coverless. This diaper was hardly damp on the outside after my son wet it so I felt safe using it often without a cover.
Fit ✩✩✩ IF there was more room on the waist before I got to the third snap in on the Hip it would be a 5. The biggest downfall of the diaper is that when you get to a wider waist setting you will have a Male snap end exposed. This WILL touch your baby’s leg and won’t be comfortable. To remedy this I laid a cotton wipe, folded in half, over the inside of the diaper where the snaps would be exposed. I could just barely snap both sides on that third snap but it was too tight so we had to leave them with just 2 snaps closed on each tab. These fitteds without snaps at all would not have this issue. Otherwise, the crotch was nice and narrow and I loved that. And the rise has plenty of room left and folded over to be quite small as well.
Overall: I love my Oranges! I also have 2 of their Bamboo Terry Flats that served me well during the Flats Challenge and still work great. The workmanship is gorgeous and flawless. Just seeing the diaper you can tell this is made with love and skill. I chose yellow snaps to compliment the green and white cotton knit pattern and I am so pleased with the combo. More than anything, I love how beautifully the diapers come packaged. It is no ordinary Fluffy Mail. The washing instructions and clever too, “How to Wash Your Oranges” makes me smile every time I read it. The other huge selling point: Orange Diaper Co. diapers are made in the US and they are Organic. Also, from their website- “We’ve been unbelievably lucky & we want to pay it forward, so a portion of the proceeds from every diaper we sell is donated to ForKids, a local charity working to break the cycle of homelessness & poverty for children.
www.homesforkids.org”
Bright Star is a new cloth diaper brand brought to you by the makers of Fishnoodle diapers. They have a few types of diapers available but for this review I have been testing the Trim AIO.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Side snapping diapers take longer to get used to than front closing diapers. Sometimes because of the shape of the baby it can be harder to close. Still, there are only 4 snaps total and you can leave the soakers snapping into the diaper when you wash. That essentially makes it an All-In-One in practice, though I would call it a Snap-in-One.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The Trim AIO runs 20.95 direct from the manufacturer. I think this price is worth paying for the super trimness you get without losing absorbency. Plus there are some super adorable prints to choose from!
Performance ✩✩✩✩ There were some leaks with the diaper. I would definitely consider it a “daytime” diaper for the level of absorbency it has. Without the hemp doubler I had leaks, but after adding it in this solved the problem. Sometimes side snapping diapers in general have a tendency to leak on the sides if the baby is sleeping that way, and this happened once for us as well. But it has happened with others, this isn’t an issue solely associated with this brand.
Fit ✩✩✩✩✩This diaper looks amazing on! I feel this is the strong suit of the Trim AIO. It looks so sleek and trim. We tested the size 0 which fits 7-16 pounds. Everett was already towards the end of that range when the diaper arrived, and as it happens, he is JUST growing out of it now. Size 1 will fit babies the longest range of time, typical of the Medium diaper, and would be the best investment.
Overall- I loved using this diaper on Everett because it looked so great on him. I will readily admit I prefer diapers with middle closures but I am willing to use side snapping diapers when they give such a trim fit. He can wear some outfits with this diaper that won’t fit over his OS diapers. The soakers look a little wrinkled after being washed while snapped in, but this is nothing that concerns me. I would love to get a Medium which would last longer and fit both of my boys to have around for those skinny outfits!
Babykicks has released a newer and improved version of their Bumboo Pocket diaper, now called the 3g. This diaper shares most of the features with the Bumboo (front stuffing pocket, bamboo fleece lining, fleece gussets, multi-colored coordinating snaps) but has an improved sizing and comes in colors as well. The insert is still hemp, but has been improved to better fit the 3g. Babykicks has a few fun videos you might enjoy viewing as well: Babykicks Youtube Channel. You can also view my previous review of the first version of the Bumboo. I am also hosting a giveaway which end on Jan 10. Go enter!
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Since the 3g is still a side snapping diaper, and the diaper itself it still more difficult to stuff than most pockets, I gave it a 3 star. To adjust the size isn’t that hard (unless you are using the newborn setting, this one takes some practice). Snapping the side snap first is the easiest way to put on this diaper. Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The 3g is still 18.50, right at the same price point as many other one size diapers. Plus you get a thirsty hemp insert that is great for overnights. The fleece is bamboo, another more luxe feature compared to most OS pockets. Performance ✩✩✩✩ This diaper is very absorbent on both kids. I preferred using it for my youngest. On the 3g I didn’t have any leaks on either kid, and the gussets performed wonderfully. Fit ✩✩✩✩The fit is improved on this diaper compared to the Bumboo. This is partially because the insert is shaped to fit the diaper better, and the new contoured front. Plus, the snaps on waist and rise have been adjusted to fit larger babies. I found it extremely trim on my youngest son even with the rise snapped down. It looked great on him. Same for my toddler, but with a different look since it was unsnapped more. Overall- I like the new 3g more than the previous version. Now that the diaper comes in colors, including the exclusive chocolate versions carried by Kelly’s Closet, you can get more than just the white with multi colored snaps. I still think the fleece gussets are the best feature of the diaper.

The Yo-Yoo One Size is pretty unique as far as pocket diapers go since the insert and lining are made from bamboo. Many parents get frustrated if they need a pocket lined with a non synthetic material. The Yo-Yoo uses a snap down rise adjustment and stuffs in the front.
Ease of Use✩✩✩The Yo-Yoo pocket has a total of 4 snaps, 2 on each tab, to affix when placing on the baby. This makes putting it on and off very easy. The most “difficult” part is just stuffing the diaper. It stuffs in the front and the opening is very small. You could also just lay the insert into the diaper if you prefer.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ You can find the Yo-Yoo for 17.99. It is made in China, a drawback for some consumers. However, you won’t find another pocket diaper much like it as far as materials go.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ I was really impressed with the absorbency of the insert! We had a day where my son was in this diaper longer than he should have been, and it was SOAKED heavily but there wasn’t a leak.
Fit ✩✩✩✩On my toddler he was able to wear the Yo-Yoo on the middle rise snap. There was some wing droopage at times. He has a good amount of room to grow for the waist and rise. I think the waist snaps would need to get tighter for a newborn but I haven’t tried it on the new baby yet.
Overall- The Yo-Yoo comes in a few really cute colors. It isn’t available in many places, but if you are looking for an alternative to microfleece or suedecloth liners this is a diaper to consider. It fits trimly too!
A Yo-Yoo pocket diaper was received for the purposes of this review from Snaps and Snails. No other compensation was received. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
Doopsy contacted me recently and asked if I would like to review their new cloth diaper. While the design in general isn’t that exciting or unique, they do offer an interesting new type of insert called a “Super Doopsy” which is a PUL backed, bamboo terry sock. I think the video will explain it best!
Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩Doopsy diapers are pockets with snap closures and a 3 step snap down rise adjustment. You can use the Doopsy as a pocket diaper with their microfiber inserts, or with the Super Doopsy insert. Each tab has 3 snaps, 2 on the waist and one on the hip. Application of the diaper is simple, 6 snaps to affix, but it doesn’t take too long to do. Granted, there are more snaps than some other diapers and it will obviously take more time than a velcro diaper.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ The Doopsy “SD” is 17.95. However, you can find the regular version without the SD insert for only 15.95. While it is a good price for a pocket diaper, you may not get as much for your money since it seems to fit on the small side.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ The Doopsy SD insert is very absorbent. It takes a little longer to dry than the microfiber insert that comes with it. I didn’t have any leaks with either insert, but I think the microfiber insert is a bit thinner than others. It just never happened that my son was in a heavy wetting mood while using it.
Fit ✩✩✩ On the unsnapped rise setting (the largest possible) this diaper fit so nicely on my son. It is really trim as well. Unfortunately, on most pocket diapers he is on the middle snap and has more room to grow. In these he is very close to outgrowing. He is 25 pounds or so. Waist wise he does have more room, but not on the rise.
Overall- The Doopsy SD is a good and inexpensive pocket diaper that comes in some really cute colors. The snaps don’t match the PUL, some people care, some don’t. It does get very small but looks like it won’t fit as long as many other pocket diapers. The SD insert is very neat and absorbent, and a nice option to have.
I was contacted by Debby from Otter Babies and told about the softest fitted she had ever felt. She wanted to know if I would do a review. I wanted to know if this diaper was as soft as she claimed, and it definitely was! In case the video isn’t clear enough, you can view a very detailed diagram with instructions on how to size the diaper and add boosters on www.otterblotters.com.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ The diaper is a one size fitted, and utilizes a fold over rise adjustment. Now, even though it seems there are only two ways to adjust the rise, you can fold it without snapping it over. Depending on what size setting you need, the size is either already set and you just put it on the baby, or you need to fold the rise over once you have it on them. For us, because my son is not the small and not the unsnapped, we go in between so I fold it over when we change. I lay the soakers in ahead of time. If the diaper is unsnapped and on the largest setting you can snap the soakers in place. I love that the tabs each have the ability to cross over. Some diapers have them on the left, some on the right, but you can choose either! Obviously my son doesn’t need them to cross over since he is a toddler, but the option is nice.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩The diaper is 19.97. I really love the materials it is made from, and since it is a good night time diaper, I would pay that for it. Others may consider it expensive and opt for a cheaper fitted. Having the chance to rub it is nice though! The bamboo also makes it pricer than a fitted using microfiber or some other cheaper material.
Performance ✩✩✩✩I mostly used this diaper at night because it is bulky. I used both inserts. The first night I used it I had a leak. I washed it a few more times and only used it during the day until then. The next night time test I stuck a microfiber doubler beneath the 2 inserts, just in case. I have continued this method because I was afraid to have more leaks. My son finally sleeps all night so frankly, I don’t want to deal with a soaking wet wake up call! This combination has worked great for us. Also, the first night I used it unsnapped but this was too big. After that I figured out I should fold it in between the two settings. This probably helped as well.
Fit ✩✩✩ I am not crazy about the size variations. While it seems to only have 2, you can make it have more by folding it to size, but you don’t get that in the instructions. I would not use any inserts for a very small baby to cut out the bulk. With both inserts in it is very bulky and would not fit under my son’s pants. Had I not played around with the sizing I might have been dissapointed with the diaper since I did have a leak on the unsnapped setting. It was too large for his legs.
Overall- The best feature of this diaper is how soft it is. Second best is the fact that they snap in soakers are fleece topped. Most fitteds have no fleece and many parents are looking for that feature. While it doesn’t wick moisture away from the entire baby’s bottom, it does in that area (most sensitive area at that!) The sizing isn’t the best at certain ages, but I was able to work with it and make it work. I hope others can figure it out as well. It was great to use at night and I am confident that is will work all night now! Peace of mind is great!
Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰ The Bum Essentials is an AI2 that has one soaker and a booster option. The booster can be already snapped in or you can just use the soaker. Either way you only need to snap in the booster at the changes if you have things prepared ahead of time. The tabs are velcro and can be closed easily on the baby. I will say that the front elastic does make it a little harder to put on than a traditional cloth diaper with velcro. You have to make sure the velcro strip is flat when affixing the tabs. You can do this by stretching the diaper pver the baby while putting it on.
Bang for the Buck✰✰✰✰ The diaper runs 19.99 for the shell and a soaker/ booster combo in the terry material. The is slightly less than some other AI2‘s but more than a typical pocket diaper. I love the terry material used for the soaker. You can also buy a bamboo soaker/booster combo. For extra soakers (bamboo or terry) it is 9.50.
Performance ✰✰✰✰ The soakers are absorbent and made from a nice material. I was sent both the terry and bamboo and I prefer the terry but the bamboo held up just as well. I never had a leak with them and I think with the booster is a nice addition for toddlers.
Fit✰✰✰ The tabs are very generously sized, giving even the widest waists ample room to grow. I did have a good bit of leg gaping that I couldn’t seem to get any smaller. If my son were a heavier wetter I imagine there would have been leaks. His legs are on the smaller side so even an average baby or larger baby would have better luck. The elastic on the front bunched the velcro strip so you have to be careful when you close the tabs. (Again, stretch it over the baby first) I had an instance of the tab coming off because it wasn’t attached to all of the strip.
Overall- I like the ideas behind this diaper but would love to see a few thing tweaked. The snaps for the soaker are only snapped in the microfleece. This means it could rip easier than if it were attached through PUL. I realize this is a design choice and ripping the snap can be avoided by unsnapping the soaker before washing and pulling it off close to the snap. But, I am not always careful. I already addressed some of the other concerns in different areas of the review. I do like the colors the diapers come in, especially Rocket Red, and the soakers are made from good materials and very absorbent. I also like the generous size on the tabs. As with all diapers, there are features I love and some I don’t.
Bum Essentials Wet Bag- I was also sent a Bum Essentials wet bag to try. The neat thing about it is that is is reversible. When you wash if it flips inside out it doesn’t matter! It is a good size for a longer day trip, but too big for an outing to the store. It is a great size for swimwear or wet clothes and would be a good one to keep around just in case!
The diaper and wetbag were sent free of charge. All opinions expressed are my own.
I know I have been meaning to post this review for a long time. I bought the diaper myself to review it since I knew so many people were wanting a video review!
Ease of Use ✰✰✰ Goodmamas and snaps are synonymous. Each tab has 3 snaps that need to be secured, so while putting the diaper on you need to secure 6 snaps total. This can be no big deal, or torture depending on your baby/ toddler’s temperament. To size the diaper, you can just fold the rise over, which reveals more snaps. When left unfolded, those snaps will be against the baby’s skin.
Bang for the Buck✰✰✰ The ONE is close to 30.00. You are paying mostly for the cuteness factor and the rayon from bamboo which makes up the interior of the diaper. You really only buy this diaper because you love the way it looks.
Performance ✰✰✰ I experienced a good number of leaks in the beginning. The wetness wicked onto the decorative material on the front of the diaper around the legs. I contacted Goodmama and they offered to help me troubleshoot. I tried working with how I was sizing it and between that and perhaps some extra washes (prepping) it didn’t leak through the legs.
Fit✰✰✰ The diaper isn’t the trimmest. Even the fitteds are a little bulky since they use quite a few layers of rayon from bamboo. Trimness doesn’t mean the most to me. The rise can be adjusted but I don’t feel this would fit a baby until they get some length and chunk on them. The legs weren’t as snug as I would like to hold in leaks, but I never had any solid waste leak out.
Overall- I do enjoy how cute the diaper is, and always appreciate softness next to the baby. I don’t like that the snaps are not hidden, so when unfolded, they are against the baby’s skin. The only way to avoid that is to buy socks that go over those snaps. It is absorbent enough, but I always worry about him leaking while wearing it so I don’t leave it on for long or use it while we are out. If you like the look of GM’s I would much rather get the fitteds. At home you can use them coverless. There are tons of people who do love the ONE’s, but I am not in love.
