Blissful Booty AIO and Ultra AIO Review

I was asked to review the Blissful Booty AIO and Ultra AIO.  These AIO‘s are both affordable, super soft, and have internal leg gussets.  They also have cross over tabs and stomach elastic.  There is a newborn version of the AIO available which has a notch for the umbilical cord stump.  The Ultra AIO differs from their regular AIO because it has snaps and velcro, which you can see in the video.

A little about Blissful Booty:

Cathy, the creator of Blissful Booty, wanted to make a more affordable All-in-One so she designed this line of diapers.  Even though her diapers are made in Hong Kong she runs everything else.  It is a reality that to make an affordable diaper sometimes things are outsourced.  She has her entire story posted on her blog, including why she created these diapers for her daughter, who was born with a congenital heart defect, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ Both the AIO and Ultra AIO are very easy to put on. They are both All-in-One’s meaning they don’t need to be stuffed before use or unstuffed after. You will need to attach the tabs to their laundry tabs before washing. If you are using the Ultra, which has snaps and velcro, you might have to think of lining the snaps before pushing the velcro down.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ You can find the Blissful Booty AIO for 17.99 and the Ultra AIO for 19.99. If I were choosing I would go for the AIO. This AIO is the same price as many leading pockets but it is more convenient.

Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ In terms of the absorbency we had a great run with this diaper. It is trim but he never leaked out of it. There are internal gussets that probably work great for holding in newborn poop, but I couldn’t convince Everett to poop in this diaper!

Fit ✩✩✩✩ These diapers both come in sizes, we reviewed the Medium for Everett and he is 19 lbs. It had a low rise for him, on the near end of not fitting. The waist still had plenty of room for growing in it. According to their size chart the Mediums fit up to 23 pounds and the Large starts at 21. He is at the weird place where he could be just about either. I think because the rise was low for him this lead to the velcro rubbing his tummy. I would have also liked a little more fabric above the strip to prevent that. The elasticized stomach kept the diaper fitting close to his body also.

Overall: Both the AIO and Ultra AIO have features seen on higher priced diapers like the internal gussets. They don’t come in too many colors yet but there are some pastels available. The diapers do come packaged really nicely! Gift worthy! The fleece is really soft. I just wish for a tad more fabric above that velcro since it did rub his stomach a few times.

Where to buy: Blissful Booty

A Blissful Booty AIO and Ultra AIO as well as WIpe Solution were sent for review.  No other compensation was received.  All opinions are 100% my own and genuine.

Intro to Cloth Diapers Series: All-in-Ones

Intro to Cloth Diapers Series: All-in-Ones

As part of my ongoing series, Introduction to Cloth Diapers, this video and post is dedicated to the easiest cloth diaper: the All-in-One.  The name pretty much explains what an All-in-One is: a one piece diaper that requires no stuffing, no unstuffing, and no assembly before use.

Sounds like a disposable, yes?

The only difference is that you need to wash it and, with velcro cloth diapers, you will need to affix the velcro tabs to their laundry tabs to prevent diaper chains (diapers sticking to one another in the washer or dryer which are a pain in the butt but that also cause more wear and tear to your diapers).

It is pretty easy to see why an AIO (abbreviated form of All-in-One) is an attractive choice for new cloth diapering parents.  Usually when the topic is brought up to the cloth diapering dad-to-be they want the easiest diaper to use; one that is most like a disposable.

All-in-Ones could be called the “gateway drug” of cloth diapers.

Once you see how easy and fun cloth diapering can be with an All-in-One you might want to branch out and try a pocket diaper, or a fitted and cover, or even *gasp* prefolds and covers!

AIO‘s make excellent babysitter, care provider, grandma and grandpa, reluctant Dad, and Daycare diapers.

Potential drawbacks of AIO‘s are:

  • Longer drying time for some types
  • Proclivity for stink issues cause by microfiber inserts not getting clean enough
  • More expensive than most other types.
  • Many are sized which will also increase the investment since you have to buy multiple sets.

While other diapers call themselves “All-in-Ones” I am using the truest forms for this video and definition.  Others called AIO‘s are actually Tongue Style Pockets (Kissaluvs Marvel) or Snap-in-Ones (Bottombumpers).  These will be explained later in my series.

You can find the detailed video review of each diaper featured in this video below:

Bright Star Trim AIO Review

Bright Star Trim AIO Review

Bright Star is a new cloth diaper brand brought to you by the makers of Fishnoodle diapers.  They have a few types of diapers available but for this review I have been testing the Trim AIO.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩ Side snapping diapers take longer to get used to than front closing diapers.  Sometimes because of the shape of the baby it can be harder to close.  Still, there are only 4 snaps total and you can leave the soakers snapping into the diaper when you wash.  That essentially makes it an All-In-One in practice, though I would call it a Snap-in-One.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The Trim AIO runs 20.95 direct from the manufacturer.  I think this price is worth paying for the super trimness you get without losing absorbency.  Plus there are some super adorable prints to choose from!

Performance ✩✩✩✩ There were some leaks with the diaper.  I would definitely consider it a “daytime” diaper for the level of absorbency it has.  Without the hemp doubler I had leaks, but after adding it in this solved the problem.  Sometimes side snapping diapers in general have a tendency to leak on the sides if the baby is sleeping that way, and this happened once for us as well.  But it has happened with others, this isn’t an issue solely associated with this brand.

Fit ✩✩✩✩✩ This diaper looks amazing on!  I feel this is the strong suit of the Trim AIO.  It looks so sleek and trim.  We tested the size 0 which fits 7-16 pounds.  Everett was already towards the end of that range when the diaper arrived, and as it happens, he is JUST growing out of it now.  Size 1 will fit babies the longest range of time, typical of the Medium diaper, and would be the best investment.

Overall- I loved using this diaper on Everett because it looked so great on him.  I will readily admit I prefer diapers with middle closures but I am willing to use side snapping diapers when they give such a trim fit.  He can wear some outfits with this diaper that won’t fit over his OS diapers.  The soakers look a little wrinkled after being washed while snapped in, but this is nothing that concerns me.  I would love to get a Medium which would last longer and fit both of my boys to have around for those skinny outfits!

Ragababe Easy AIO Giveaway! *closed*

Ragababe is a brand new to the market that is really developing a cultish fanbase thanks to their edgy designs and Facebook presence.  They have amazing customer service too!  If you haven’t heard of them yet you can thank me later!

After reading and watching my reviews you probably know how awesome Ragababe diapers are.  Well, now one lucky DDL reader will get the chance to try one themselves!

Ragababe is offering one Easy AIO to the winner.

Congrats Heather Aguilar!

Here are the details of this amazing diaper from their website:

Our RagaBabe All-In-One  is a reusable cloth diaper that is literally as easy to put on as a disposable using our convenient, durable Velcro-style closures– making it super easy for first time cloth diaperers, dads and babysitters!
We begin with a waterproof laminated outer layer of premium colorfast polyester available in 7 solid colors and 10 prints.
Lining the inside is a buttery soft lightweight suede cloth that keeps the baby’s bottom cool and dry. Moisture is quickly pulled through the lining and into the sewn-in ‘soaker’ — three layers of quick drying bamboo rayon. The amazing capillary action of bamboo quickly distributes moisture throughout the soaker, allowing an incredibly light, 3 ounce diaper to hold over 4 times its weight in liquid!
RagaBabe’s 7 point leak-resistant technology works to keep clothing, sheets and car seats dry. To provide all night protection for heavy wetters, a hidden sleeve in the front can be stuffed with our organic cotton insert, or you can simply lay an insert or doubler on top of the lining. Yes… the
RagaBabe Easy All-In-One is a true overnight solution. (See Testimonials)
Every RagaBabe All-In-One cloth diaper also comes with a thin organic cotton ‘liner’ that can be used to make poop cleanup easier while adding a small boost in absorbency without adding any bulk.
A couple elastic design features that sets RagaBabe a part from others… Our long-life leg elastic will not need replacing and will not curl — allowing our gussets to lay flat on baby’s skin to reduce leaks and red marks. The wide ‘comfort-fit’ waistband eliminates pressure points and also deters the dreaded up the back ‘blowout’!
You will appreciate how fast the RagaBabe All-In-One diaper dries — around 50-60 minutes in most dryers. And our laundry tabs REALLY do work… keeping the Velcro from clinging to other items in the dryer. Our fabrics resist odor and detergent buildup and have been tested with amazing results on children with extremely sensitive skin.
Easy All-In-Ones can be used entirely or along with our RB Organic ’2-Step’ series. For any questions on sizing recommendations or other questions, email us at info@ragababe.com or visit us atRagaBabe Facebook.

I just can’t get over how adorable these diapers are!

Ragababe Easy AIO and Organic ’2-Step’ Review

I had been drooling over the Ragababe diapers since seeing them on various websites.  The prints and styling were some of the cutest I had ever seen.  They truly do have a unique style and edge to them.  I have been able to try their All in One and Organic ’2-Step’ in various sizes so I have a pretty good idea of how they work.  Both diapers are in one video.

Ragababe Easy AIO:

Ease of Use ✩✩✩Their AIO is truly a one step, on and off, super easy to use diaper.  It mimics a disposable in every way except that you will need to secure the laundry tabs before washing.  I have been leaving these out for my babysitter and she loves toe newspaper print.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ These are definitely not the least expensive diapering option.  If you are looking to cloth diaper on a VERY tight budget I wouldn’t go for a stash of these, but maybe pick yourself up one or two for the pretty factor.  The AIO runs 25.95 for a print or 22-23.95 for a solid color.  There are AIO‘s for less, and some for more, though these are on the high end.  The diaper has so many selling points that you may very well want to pay the extra money for them.

Performance ✩✩✩✩ The Newborn Ragababe AIO was in my top 3 favorite diapers, if not my absolute favorite.  It never leaked, not once, compared to other NB diapers which all leaked at least 1 time a little bit.  My son tested the Large and we have also had great success without adding any extra inserts.  The diaper itself in incredibly light.  It feels like air.  Kind of amazing actually.  The elastic really fits great on my guys’ legs too.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ We have tried 3 sizes of the AIO: NB, Small, and Large.  For my kids’ these have been on the money for what we need.  The large still has room for growth but fits my skinny toddler really well in the legs and waist.  The NB lasted us right up to around 12 pounds, and the small is now fitting Ev and will for a little while, tho he is pretty hefty so he will probably fit a Medium very soon if not already.  The elastic kept in all of the runny poops too.

Overall: Without sounding like a rabid Beiber fan I will just say that these diapers are Uh Ma Zing.  Yeah, I went there.  They are very much my style and any little punk rock kid would love to wear them.  The print are unique and the colors are still bold and fun.  Even the white diaper has an edge thanks to the black velcro and star tabs.  The laundry tabs are pretty strong but I have had them come undone in the washer or dryer.  My only complain was that occasionally the tab would come undone a little and rub the baby’s waist or thigh.  Likely it was me not being careful when I put it on but it is something to keep in mind.  You hate seeing a little red spot and knowing it hurt the baby.  Ragababe has a cultish online following for a good reason!

Ragababe ’2-Step’

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ The ’2-Step’ is an “all in two” system that reuses an outer shell and has replaceable inserts.  These inserts are super soft organic cotton.  The inside of the shell has suedecloth lining.  The diaper comes itself is fairly simple to use.  It has the same velcro closure as the AIO but there is a snap down rise system.  It isn’t a one size fits most diaper, but has 3 sizes to be discussed later.  The abosrbent cotton insert can be snapped in and replaced when wet.  There are also boosters you can get to increase absorbency if needed.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ Once again, this diaper is on the high range at 29.95.  You can get discounts by bying packages, something you might want when buying a system like this.  Again, these diapers are freaking adorable so a splurge might be worth it for you.

Performance ✩✩✩✩ These did leak a couple of times for me.  Today in fact my husband put the Size 1 on my toddler, but it was snapped down to fit my 8 week old.  This didn’t work out so great lol.  We also had a leak when I thought the unsnapped setting would work on the Size 0 for my then 7 week old but it was a little too big so we had a leak.  If the sizing is right they work great.  The cotton inserts hold a very large amount of liquid.  I know I have taken them off of my toddler and it was heavy!  I am not an All in Two fan so I use the shells once most times but for reviewing I did reuse the shell.  It worked as long as the insert was just wet.  My youngest son has runny stool so many times the shell would get poop on it.  With the toddler it is hit or miss.  Sometimes it is small and solid so it stays on the pad, other times it is gigantic and mushy.  And that means a new shell.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ The sizing for the ’2-Step’ goes: Size 0: 4-18 lbs, Size 1: 9-30 lbs, Size 2: 15-40 lbs.  We have tried the size 0 and size 1.  I feel the range given is pretty accurate with what we have experienced.  Ev fit in the Size 0 right away and is still wearing it.  He also fits in the size 1 snapped all the way down, and my toddler fits is unsnapped all the way at 28 pounds or so.  The thinking is that by the time your baby gets ready to outgrow the size 0 you will have an idea of whether they are going to be a chunker or a skinny mini.  Some babiies might only need a size 1, or some might go straight to the size 2.  I really like the idea behind this because you get a really custom fit.  The size 0 really can fit a newborn too.

Overall: Like I said, AI2‘s are not my thang but I LOVE how these fit and will continue to use them for both boys.  The idea behind the sziing is right on and I love it!  The insides are so soft too, I just love those soakers.  I have been adding them to other diapers that need a boost as well.

Swaddlebees All-in-One Review

Swaddlebees All-in-One Review

Sometimes a cloth diaper store contacts me about working together for a review or giveaway, or both.  This time, Abby’s Lane wanted to work together.  I looked through her store and found a few diapers I had not reviewed yet.  I chose the Swaddlebees All-in-One.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ Being that this is an AIO, ease of use is implied!  This diaper is a side snapping AIO, somewhat rare, and you have 2 vertical snaps on each tab to affix, so 4 in total.  This diaper is also a sized diaper, so there is little guesswork involved on which snap to use.  You have 3 waist and thigh choices.  For us, we used the tightest one, since he was testing the large.  There is a pocket opening if you need to add more stuffing, but this diaper has a generous microfiber insert.  No unstuffing/stuffin required.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ This diaper is 21.95.  Typically, AIO‘s are pricier than pocket diapers.  Also, Swaddlebees have a bamboo velour lining and are made in the US.  These are two possible reasons for the price being a little higher than other diapers.

Performance ✩✩✩✩ This was an easy diaper to review.  I never had any trial and error issues with fit so we never had any weird leaks.  I did not try this diaper overnight because it is side snapping and my son sleeps on his side.  I anticipated a higher chance for leaking and frankly, being woken to wet sheets is not on my agenda right now.  Back and tummy sleepers should be fine, and there is a pocket to add more inserts if you need them.  We did use it for naps with no leaks, so in all likelihood it would have been fine.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ My son was SO in between sizes, which is what I am finding in a lot of other brands as well.  The Medium went up to 25 pounds, and the large began at 22.  He is around 24 pounds.  I chose the large.  He has a skinnier build, but the large fit pretty well.  At times I noticed a leg gap when the diaper was wet and heavier.  It is just a hard age in diaper sizing.

Overall- I think that this diaper is very well thought out.  The cotton velour lining is great because some babies are sensitive to microfleece.  The microfleece layer beneath it still works to wick moisture away but it never touches the skin.   I also love that it can be used as a pull up, though since it is an AIO it isn’t quite like a trainer and will be bulkier than most trainers.  I enjoyed reviewing this diaper.  The only drawback was that because the soaker is a rectangle you can see the outline, which is a little reminiscint of a pad…….  other than that it is a great AIO!

Cloth Diaper Must Haves- My Top Picks

Cloth Diaper Must Haves- My Top Picks

I have lived through 20 months of cloth diapering my son.  To say I have learned a thing or two is an understatement.  Not only have I tried and reviewed over 50 cloth diapers, I have tried all sorts of accesories.  Plus I have real world experience.  I know how to change a cloth diaper on a plane, bench, lap, and how to deal when my son is fighting me for a change.  I have sampled cloth safe diaper creams and detergents and picked my favorites.  And, I have learned how to keep my son relatively still during changes (crucial when in public and there is a nasty poop!)  I am listing what I feel a cloth diapering mom needs and stating my brand of choice where applicable.

A few easy peasy AIO diapers for the babysitter/ diaper bag. Because no matter how much you love prefolds, your babysitter might not.  My favorites are the Drybees Hybrid Pocket AIO and the AMP AIO.

Diaper Sprayer (around 6 months when your baby begins solids)

groovyAt least (2) Travel Size Wet Bags. The Wahmies Medium in the Guitar Print is my go to quick trip out, while my Planet Wise Wet/ Dry in Medium is best for a day trip.

(2) Elastic edged pail liners -or- at least 2 Hanging Wet Bags- Wahmies Pail liner is my choice, and Planet Wise Wet/Dry bag in Large for a hanging pail.

Diaper Pail- if you choose one, it should have a pedal for ease of use, especially when you have a dripping wet diaper.  I love my Diaper Dekor, which I modified to accommodate cloth diapers.

1 pack of Snappis

Cloth Friendly Diaper Detergent (I use Rockin’ Green Hard Rock)

Dryer Balls (if you want to soften your diapers or reduce static.)

Flushable Liners- I have found Bummis Bioliners are the softest.  Good to use when on the go to prevent coming home with poop in your diapers.

Drying Rack, clothesline, or gizmo for hanging diapers- I love my Ikea Octopus for hanging covers, but I just throw my inserts over the porch rail for sunning.

Awesome diaper bag big enough for your cloth diapers! I like my Petunia Picklebottom but I am still drooling over the Go Gaga Messenger bag!

mobileChanging Pad- I have a great changing pad from Ikea!

Cloth Diaper safe Cream- My fav is Dimpleskins Bum Balm.  Silky and very effective!

Distracting/ engaging Toy for changes.  Especially good for when you are learning how to put on a prefold or a snapping diaper.

Mobile above changing table when the baby is younger and can’t reach it. It will keep their eyes engaged while you do your thing.

You can find many of these items at my affiliate, Kelly’s Closet, including the Bummis Bioliners, Planet Wise and Wahmies Wet bags, diaper sprayers, snappis, and Rockin’ Green.  Shopping my link supports DDL!  Need a coupon code?  Find them here! Happy Shopping!

What are your must have items to make cloth diapering easier?

AMP Stay Dry All in One Review

AMP Stay Dry All in One Review

I have had the AMP Stay Dry All in One in my possession since November!  I was sent 2 to review but they were a size large.  At the time they were much too large for my son, so I put them in a drawer hoping he would grow into them soon.  Recently, I tried them on him again and they fit!  So we began reviewing them finally!  The AMP Stay Dry is a true AIO with no stuffing, no pockets, no nothing but diaper that is easy on and off.  I recently left them for a babysitter who had no problems putting them on my son.  I just didn’t clarify that he had to wear shorts with them.  When I came home she said she had to use another diaper because he kept taking the AMP off!  Toddlers and velcro with no pants just don’t mix!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰✰✰ It just doesn’t get any easier than this diaper.  The velcro tabs attach just like you would put a disposable on a baby.  When you take the diaper off there are no inserts to remove, all you need to remember to do is attach the laundry tabs.  When the diapers have been washed and dried, they go right back in the basket.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰✰ The price on the AMP Stay Dry is around 20.00 CA.  I had a hard time finding this product in a US store, but Canadians have a lot of choices when looking online.  You can find a list of retailers here.

Performance ✰✰✰✰ The AMP AIO is an awesome day tripping, around the house, babysitter, and daycare diaper.  I love having it in my diaper bag because I know where ever we are I can put it on my son in a snap.  Like yesterday, in the parking lot of a grocery store in the back seat of my car.  I love my snaps but with a son who is ready to run I have to change him quickly in certain places.  I can’t imagine any daycare refusing this diaper because it is too simple.  For nights on a toddler they need more absorbency, but there is no pocket so you need to add a doubler that can be placed against baby’s skin.  I am sure a small for a younger baby would hold up fine.  My son guzzles an entire sippy of milk right before bed, so yeah.  I also want to add that drying time isn’t that bad for an AIO.  It dries in one cycle.  And it dried out in the sun from soaking wet (well, after a spin) in less than a day.  My BG Organic AIO‘s were still wet and the AMP was dry to give you perspective.

Fit ✰✰✰✰ The sizes go: Small fits aprox. 6-14lbs Med fits aprox. 12-22lbs Large fits aprox. 18-38lbs.  The small seems perfect for a newborn and lasts about 2 pounds larger than most X-smalls but still fits very early, at 6 pounds, versus 4 or so like some.  In reality, most newborns would fit into a small from birth.  My son didn’t fit into the Large until about 22 pounds, even though the beginning weight is 18, but he is built tall and skinny.  On their website they do note different body types will alter when a baby will fit into a diaper slightly, which was the case for us.  The legs could be a little tighter for us, so when he wets I noticed there is a tiny gap, but he still hasn’t had a leak in them with either number 1′s or 2′s.

Overall- I totally love this diaper for it’s simplicity and quality.  AMP diapers are quality products made in Canada, something they take pride in.  While it has no bells and whistles that is a good thing.  Not every parent wants a one size diaper, and not every daycare will accept pocket diapers or snap closures.  Isn’t it wonderful that we have a diaper out there to suit every need?

Updated Reviews with Durability Category- Gro Baby with Aplix, bumGenius Organic AIO, and Smartipants

I can’t believe I did my first video cloth diaper review in April 2009.  Now that I have reviewed over 50 cloth diapers I have established a rating system that is used for every review.  When I first started, however, things were all over the place.  I wrote a lot or a little, and had no rhyme or reason to what I included, much like the videos themselves.

It has been a long time coming that I should go back and revise older reviews to include a new category: Durability. Certain reviews will be edited, when I can, to include  this new category.  Only diapers that I feel I have given a good run will be updated.  If for some reason I did not continue to use the diaper long after the review, I simply won’t update it.  For now, you can see the Durability update on 3 of my first video reviews.

Kissaluvs Marvel AIO Giveaway sponsored by Diaper Daisy *closed*

Since Sarah from Diaper Daisy and I LOVE this diaper we are giving one Kissaluvs Marvel away to one of you!

Picture 12

About Diaper Daisy:

I was not always a cloth diaper user. My first were actually two – twins – and I had not heard much about cloth diapers other than what my mom used. I was so overwhelmed with the thought of bringing two babies home that I never actually did much research about diapering at all. I felt bad about filling up the landfills (times two – yikes!), but didn’t really see any other options.

When my third came around, I was more aware of today’s cloth diapering options. I had friends who were using them with much success. I decided to check them out, and I was floored by how many different types of diapers there were and how easy they all seemed to be.

My husband was hesistant until I pointed out the cost savings. We should be saving at least $1500 over the cost of disposable diapers, and that is just for one child!

When the baby arrived, cloth diapering quickly and easily became a part of our life. I loved that we were saving money, eliminating a lot of trash, and keeping natural fabrics against the baby.

After my experience deciding to take the leap into cloth diapers, I realized how many more people would make the switch if they just had the chance to be exposed to them, the opportunity to see just how easy they are.

When the opportunity arose to purchase Diaper Daisy, I was excited about getting the chance to help expose parents to the ease of cloth diapers, as well as ideas on how to take other small steps to make life healthier for their children.

At Diaper Daisy, we want to provide quality, convenient and FUN cloth diapering and baby products to moms of babies and young children.

We offer cloth diaper demonstrations, consultations and support. We want to assist and encourage you every step of the way on your cloth diapering journey – whether you are new, novice or expert!

My hope is that more moms and caregivers will learn about cloth diapering and spread the word of how easy and FUN it can be! If there is ever anything I can do to help you on your cloth diapering journey, I would love to help!

At Diaper Daisy you can find the biggest brand names in cloth diapers, including Kissaluvs, Bum Genius, Fuzzibunz, Knickernappies, Happy Heineys, and Thirsties to name a few.

You can also to a two week cloth diaper trial with 5 different brands of diapers with no obligation to buy, to see if cloth diapers are right for you!!!

Diaper Daisy has more than diapers. There are diapering accessories like snappis, wipes, and wet bags, and items for mom!
