Oeko Eco-Friendly Glider and Ottoman Review and Giveaway *closed*

This review and giveaway is part of the New Baby Event Part 2!

Even as a little girl I always imagined that when I was a mother I would rock my precious baby to sleep.  When I became pregnant with my first son, this was still the image that was emblazoned in my mind: rocking, cuddling, nursing, and kissing my sweet baby.  I went out bought a used glider for 75.00 because I am thrifty (cheap) like that.  What a huge mistake.  Within weeks my glider was squeaking.  It was so bad I had to stop using it as a rocker and it was only a chair.

Fast Forward a few months.  I learned about Oeko, a company that makes Eco-Friendly Gliders that are comfortable, well made, and stylish.  I sat in a variety of high end gliders that weekend and nursed my son.  The glider that stood out for comfort and style was the Oeko.

I contacted them many months ago because I just had to buy a new glider.  I had trouble finding out where I could purchase one.  Turns out, they weren’t on the market yet (at the time).  Instead, I was fortunate to be able to work with this company on a review!

Sitting in the Oeko was amazing.  Having the memory of my broken down and busted glider in my head, this glider was a million miles away from that.  Plush seats, comfortable and padded armrests, smooth gliding motion, heaven!  Why had I tortured myself with such a crappy glider for so long?

I parked the glider in front of the TV for the first night until my husband could move the old glider from my son’s room.  I was sad when it was finally moved since it had been so nice to sit and rock while watching TV.

What Makes Oeko Furniture “Eco-Friendly?”

OEKO Furniture is eco-friendly through manufacturing processes and material selection such as plantation rubber wood, durable water-based finishes, natural palm oil foam cushions and eco-conscious fabrics.

About the Company:

Established in 1978, our group of companies is very proud of its more than 30 years of experience in the furniture industry. We started by importing furniture for local projects. Wanting to understand the retail environment and the needs of end customers, we later went into the retail business. After acquiring solid knowledge of the market, we started manufacturing furniture in 1990. Regent Furniture has been manufacturing glider rockers since 2006.

Our 100,000 square foot production facility is located one hour from downtown Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. More than one hundred fifty employees are committed to producing quality furniture. Our products are sold in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The younger generation of this family-owned company brings new vision and life into the company to take on today’s challenges. We understand the effects of global warming and commit to taking better care of the earth. Today, the company is proud to provide choices to people who share our vision.

I have been using this glider for quite a few months so I have had the opportunity to really give it a run.  When I say I have test driven it, I mean it.  I rock my toddler every single night before bed.  For naps, he is also rocked.  And now, I have a brand new baby!  He is rocked in glider while I nurse him a few times a day.  I believe I use a glider more than the average mother!

Gliding:

The gliding motion is very smooth on the Oeko.  When we did experience some “squeaking” we figured out it was from a loose bolt.  My hubby tightened it and that took care of the noise I was hearing.

Upholstery:

The uphostery is an easy to clean polyster.  My son has spilled milk or juice on it many times and it was an easy fix to wipe it up with warm water.  So far nothing has stained, thank goodness!  The fabric itself is very soft.  My glider has a velour texture.  And the foam has held it’s shape pretty well despite me and my husband sitting on it for hours.

Wood:

I think the most striking thing about the glider is the color and quality of the wood.  It looks like it would cost so much more than it does!  It really can compete with a Duatilier in looks.  The lines are sleek and modern, more so than most gliders which tend to have the same look to them no matter the brand.  I also prefer darker tones of wood and Oeko offers this.

Comfort:

Since I have already stated how much I am in this glider I am very familiar with it.  My rear has enjoyed the foam seats, which are thick and plush.  I don’t think I have to worry about my bottom hitting he wood beneath for a long time.  The upholstered arms are my favorite feature in terms of comfort.  There is plenty of cushion beneath so I don’t feel like I am resting on wood.  Plus, there are generous pockets in each arm to store burp cloths, books, or bulb suctions where you need them most.

Locking Mechanism:

I will be honest and say that I personally don’t have much of a use for a locking mechanism in a glider.  I am always going to want to rock when I am in a chair that rocks.  Heck, I rock when I am not in a rocking chair.  I have been told by many family members that I need to stop this because people will think that I am crazy!  I have used it on occasion when putting shoes on my son to keep up steady.  More recently I have found that locking it before I get up was helpful while I was healing from giving birth.  I think older family members will appreciate the lock since it may take them longer to get up from a chair and having it be stable will help.  Also, if you are worried that a meddlesome toddler will climb in and fall having it locked might be a good idea.  The drawback of having the locking mechanism where it is is that if you sit down too hard it will sometimes lock up.  The stops are beneath the seat.  My husband did express that he likes that it locks, so it is really up to personal preference.
