Breastfeeding Toddler Bliss

I’ve been learning how to shoot in Manual Mode on my Nikon D80 for the past 2 weeks in earnest (inspired by Jill from Baby Rabies). After shooting a few photos of my guy I laid the camera down on the bed and he signed for milk. I crawled in bed with him and cuddled up for a nursing session. With the camera within reach I grabbed it and took this shot. Thankfully the settings worked fairly well since we were in the same lighting as before. I’m sure I’ll cherish this photo forever as a lasting reminder of the 16+ months we have been in a nursing relationship. Everett is 16.5 months and not even close to weaning. I’m OK with that.

PS:  I just made the “Cloth Rocks” t-shirt he is wearing available for sale in white or black on http://shopddl.com.

Kim Rosas began Dirty Diaper Laundry in 2009 out of a desire to help more parents understand modern cloth diapers. Now she lives in Florida with her husband of 5 years and her two boys.

I love this! We are at 18.5 months and aren’t weaning anytime soon either. Our boys still need mama’s milk! ;)

I love it when they look up at you while nursing! Big giant eyes that say “Thanks, Mom, I love you!” I just melt when my Charlotte looks up at me! She is 15 months and not close to weaning either, I am  also OK with that! Great photo, thanks for sharing!

We are coming up on 22 months this week and he still loves “nurse” more than ever.  I expect we’ll be done sooner or later.  I don’t know why people are so quick to wean them early.  They obviously still get and need to nurse still.  Love the picture.  And the shirt.  Nothing like a boy wearing amber, cloth and nursing happily.

Does he look uber crunchy? LOL! It didn’t even occur to me how everything together makes him look like a baby hippie ;)

lol, No! He looks amazing! I wouldn’t care if someone called my kids hippies anyway. I know what’s best for them and this pic is awesome! I really hope breastfeeding works out for me this time (due in June) I had a really hard time with my last two. I am determined to make it work!

Beautiful pic – love how he’s staring right into your eyes!

How sweet!  We will be reaching 18 mo in under 2 weeks with no end in sight also.  I’ve nursed each of mine longer and my now 7y/o daughter nursed til 18 mo.    I only wish that the lack of sleep that has accompanied toddler nursing wasn’t so. (Although, I am a very light sleeper which I guess is on MY end…no the co-sleeping/nursing relationship)

Loving both the picture and the shirt. :-)

My son is 22 months old and still nursing. I’m also ok with that. I love the time we have together. I don’t like when people (mostly family) ask “isn’t he a little too old for that?” I just tell them that I will stop when he wants to stop. Then I assure them that I won’t go to his college dorm to nurse him to sleep. I think that gets my point across and they stop asking, for awhile. That is a beautiful picture. I have trouble getting pictures of him nursing. I will try laying down in bed. Love the shirt too!

I didn’t get to breastfeed my first but now my second is EBF (but starting solids soon) at 7 months. I am so happy to nurse him and have a goal of 2yrs +. When I tell people I want to nurse till at least 2, most are shocked. I’ve found some awesome support though and I’m really looking forward to nursing when my baby is a pre-toddler/toddler. I hope to get some great photos too to look back on when my babies are all grown up!

My baby is 39 months & is just now starting to show signs of possibly being ready to wean : )
Oh, and we somehow lost his amber necklace last year at the beach, and he asked me last week if I can buy him a new one.  It should be here soon.

I love the way he is looking up at you. Beautiful pic. My little guy is 20 months old and so far he is not close to wanting to stop. If anything he holds on to me more then he ever has. I’m ok with it. I am just soaking him up as much as I can.

Yay for full term nursing! My son is 15.5 months old and I don’t see him weaning anytime soon. He still loves his milk and I love the cuddle time. Plus, I know breast milk is good for him and the longer he nurses, the better for his health and my risk of breast cancer goes down more for every year I breastfeed.
