Once a week my family meets with my husband’s brother and wife, Harper’s godfather and his wife, and a few other close friends at a local restaurant. The establishment offers a discount on this night but we go for the camaraderie and love that all the staff knows us and dote on Harper. These “Taco Tuesdays” have become one of my favorite traditions, to the point that I worked with my job schedule to ensure I would still be available to make these weekly visits. I think it’s so good for Harper to have adults in her life on a regular basis beyond Mom and Dad, and I know my husband and I get a lot of serenity being around people we are close to and can talk to like normal adults (instead of parents, which is nice but can get a bit “mommy-wars” at times as you have to be super careful not to offend anyone) for a couple hours. Do you have any traditions that help get you out of the house to socialize a bit?
I thought it fitting that Harper try out her new hot pepper diaper cover for taco night, everybody got quite a kick out of it. This charming print is available from a wahm called Made by Sallie which we will review for you today.
[typography font=”Crafty Girls” size=”24″ size_format=”px”]Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩✩[/typography] This cover is very simple, a classic waterproof cover you can use with whatever inserts you like as long as they are safe to rest against baby’s skin. I used it with a Flip insert or a folded flat. The insert fit perfectly in the cover, and the snaps were easy to adjust for a good fit..
[typography font=”Crafty Girls” size=”24″ size_format=”px”]Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩✩[/typography] At approximately ten dollars for a cover (there are some fantastic clearance options listed for eight dollars today) you can pick up quite a few of these to build a stash without breaking the bank. They are an excellent price and with the different prints available you can add some fun character to your laundry. [typography font=”Crafty Girls” size=”24″ size_format=”px”]Performance ✩✩✩[/typography] I really like the cut of these covers, they are very trim but can still accommodate a full size insert. I did experience some issues with moisture wicking along the edges where the PUL is sewn to the cotton, there were several times when Harper’s diaper needed a change and we found out via a damp shirt sleeve (if we were carrying her). Harper is a heavy wetter though, she nurses frequently and a baby that is less demanding of her diapers may not have this issue. I love how easily the interior wipes clean after a soiled diaper, even the elastic seems to repel stains very well. [typography font=”Crafty Girls” size=”24″ size_format=”px”]Fit ✩✩✩[/typography]Made by Sallie offers plenty of sizing options for growing babies, and I think we’ll be able to use this cover for a very long time. The elastic is not my favorite, it did leave marks on Harper’s skin after about an hour of wear, though the marks didn’t seem to make her uncomfortable. This diaper is so well made, I’d love it if Sallie were to switch to a better elastic option at some point. It does its job, though, and holds everything in place nicely.
[typography font=”Crafty Girls” size=”24″ size_format=”px”]Overall:[/typography] These covers are a terrific value and are available in all sorts of fun prints and options. Right now she is featuring Super Bowl team covers for your little football fan, I know lots of people who would jump at the chance to show their team spirit with a home team cover. These covers are also a great introduction for parents who are used to all-in-ones but interested in trying something new since they hold an insert so well without bunching or shifting, it’s a stress free way to expand your options.
