Goodmama One Review

Goodmama ONE
Goodmama ONE

I know I have been meaning to post this review for a long time.  I bought the diaper myself to review it since I knew so many people were wanting a video review!

Ease of Use ✰✰✰ Goodmamas and snaps are synonymous.  Each tab has 3 snaps that need to be secured, so while putting the diaper on you need to secure 6 snaps total.  This can be no big deal, or torture depending on your baby/ toddler’s temperament.  To size the diaper, you can just fold the rise over, which reveals more snaps.  When left unfolded, those snaps will be against the baby’s skin.

Bang for the Buck ✰✰✰ The ONE is close to 30.00.  You are paying mostly for the cuteness factor and the rayon from bamboo which makes up the interior of the diaper.  You really only buy this diaper because you love the way it looks.

Performance ✰✰✰ I experienced a good number of leaks in the beginning.  The wetness wicked onto the decorative material on the front of the diaper around the legs.  I contacted Goodmama and they offered to help me troubleshoot.  I tried working with how I was sizing it and between that and perhaps some extra washes (prepping) it didn’t leak through the legs.

Fit ✰✰✰ The diaper isn’t the trimmest.  Even the fitteds are a little bulky since they use quite a few layers of rayon from bamboo.  Trimness doesn’t mean the most to me.  The rise can be adjusted but I don’t feel this would fit a baby until they get some length and chunk on them.  The legs weren’t as snug as I would like to hold in leaks, but I never had any solid waste leak out.

Overall-  I do enjoy how cute the diaper is, and always appreciate softness next to the baby.  I don’t like that the snaps are not hidden, so when unfolded, they are against the baby’s skin.  The only way to avoid that is to buy socks that go over those snaps.  It is absorbent enough, but I always worry about him leaking while wearing it so I don’t leave it on for long or use it while we are out.  If you like the look of GM’s I would much rather get the fitteds.  At home you can use them coverless.  There are tons of people who do love the ONE’s, but I am not in love.

We had the same issues with this diaper, the leaking just wouldn’t stop; it was a bummer because we love GM fitteds. I would buy another fitted from them anyday, but I couldn’t even bring myself to FSOT our GM One, I ended up sending it back to GM. They are super cute though!

  • I’m glad I’m not alone. The leaking never would stop, even after about 20 washes, so we said bye bye to the diaper and won’t buy another One.

  • Love the fitteds, hate the ONE…great review.

  • I have one and I hate it. I can only use it with a cover it leaks out the legs so bad. Ugh. It also became faded & worn looking within a few washes. It’s just awful. Like the PP, I couldn’t bring myself to FSOT it, so here it sits!

  • i have a love-hate relationship with our ONEs. i do love our fitted goodmamas now that i have gotten over the price shock. most of ours were purchased used because of the steep price. we have 6 ONEs and they fit my son the best out of any cloth diaper i have tried. but he is a heavy wetter and they do leak. we use two extra doublers (which makes me mad because those are expensive too) and we only use our ONEs for naps are around the house. i will stick to a fitted and cover for a leak proof diaper!

Thanks for the review- i was curious if your experiences were close to mine.

  • We still occasionally get some wicking (but only if super wet – like all three soakers wet) from our Ones (I have 5 of them). And I’ve washed them about 20 times each. But overall, they are a great dipe for us. We use a super doubler in them every time. I’ve even had one make it overnight on my heavy wetter (not on purpose – sometimes dads just grab the closest dipe, ya know?). I was shocked, honestly, that the babe and our bed weren’t soaked.

We have a short, fat baby and we use the largest rise. I always make sure that the super doubler is flipped so the large end is in the front and covering the snaps inside. We did have to mess with how we were snapping them a bit to get the best, less leaky fit. We snap on snaps 1, 4, and 6 on each side and get no leg leaks anymore.

If goodmama were to improve the exposed snap situation as well as include snap petals with every dipe, I’d consider buying more. Especially the ones with the hidden PUL, as our babe tends to get irritated from PUL on her legs.

thanks for the review . . . but could you clarify – what are “socks” to go over the snaps? I am intrigued because I have wondered how to prevent snap marks on my LO. Thanks!

    • Goodmama makes OBV sleeves/socks to cover the top of the diaper and prevent exposed snaps from touching the baby.

I totally agree! I bought about 8 ONES & have started selling them off. THEY LEAK! Not worth the money.
