My how time flies! It is another Saturday, which means it is time to meet another wonderful cloth diapering mama.
“Hi! I’m Samantha- almost 24 years old (!!) and mom to my son Lucas who is almost 5 months old! He is my absolute joy! I blog at Mama Notes- www.mamanotes.com I write about my thoughts and experiences during motherhood as well as anything baby, pregnancy, health, fitness, kids and parenting!”
How long have you been cloth diapering? Since Lucas was 3 weeks old.
What made you decide to start? My husband and I originally decided we would cloth diaper to save money. We needed to save money any way we could! I then realized not only is cloth diapering most cost effective, its better for my baby, the environment and it just looks CUTE!
What was your first purchase and why? Bum Genius. I heard they were great and my hubby was loving the velcro and the one size feature.
How much do you think you have spent on your diapers total? Under $100. We got a lot for gifts!
Have your family/ friends been supportive? For the most part, yes. We still get the occasional ” you’re crazy” comments but we’ve learned to ignore them. I think once people realize how great it is and how it really isn’t THAT much work, they are more accepting of them! And I don’t care what people think anyways!
What has been the most rewarding aspect of cding? Seeing my boy wearing his cute diapers. And knowing no chemicals are touching his skin and that I’m not putting more trash in the landfill. For the first three weeks of Lucas’ life we used disposables and it was disgusting how much landfill we created!!
What is your favorite diaper to use? I love Fuzzi Bunz. I’ve only tried a few brands but so far they are my favorite. I love the snaps and the way they fit my boy. THey are slim and not to bulky and come in some fun colors. Although I do wish there were more prints available!
What has been the biggest challenge to your success at cding? Probably the money. We’ve been blessed in that we’ve recieved a lot as gifts, but ideally we would like to get about 10 more. We don’t have the funds right now to buy any more so I just do a lot of laundry!
Anything else you want to discuss? Cloth diapering is wonderful! I thought it was going to be so much work when I started but I learned how easy it is! I’m so happy that we decided to cloth diaper. The only problem is that it gets sort of addicting and you want to spend all your “extra” money on cute new diapers!!
Thanks so much Samantha for sharing your story and pictures of your adorable son. If you would like to be featured as a Fluffy Mama, email me at dirtydiaperlaundry@gmail.com.
