I wasn’t expecting to see them but there they were! The Ones & Twos are a trim, All-in-One cloth diaper that come in 6 bright and fun colors. They only come in hook and loop closures. This is one of the few true AIO‘s meaning it is sewn down and acts just like a disposable. There are 4 rise adjustments on the front of the diaper as well.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ The Ones & Twos are about as easy as they come when it comes to putting onto the baby. Unless you are using the booster (which you might need if your baby wets more than the built in soaker will hold) then you just place it on the baby and secure the velcro tabs. DONE! Now, if you need to size the diaper there are 4 settings and 3 snaps per row to snap/unsnap. This can be seen in the video. If you need to add a booster just lay in on top of the diaper lining, making sure that the suedecloth is what touches the baby and not the microfiber.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩✩ For a TRUE AIO the price can’t be beat! 16.95 is a steal for a one size AIO that also comes with a booster. They sell an optional bamboo booster as well. These would be a great daycare diaper too!

Performance ✩✩✩ The diaper without the booster might not be absorbent enough for some babies. It should hold between 2-4 hours worth unless your baby is a super heavy wetter, in which case you might add the booster to get you through. Without the booster it seemed to last 2-3 and with the booster 3-4. We never go longer than 4 hours without changing unless it is overnight.

Fit ✩✩✩ The fit was what we had the hardest time with when reviewing this AIO. Keep in mind that when it comes to fit, one person’s problem can be another person’s desired fit. The Ones & Twos AIO is super trim and it has small leg openings. The elastic is sewn to be very taut. I see this being great for babies with chicken legs and for a newborn. I also thought that maybe, for those buying it to use beginning on a newborn, that by the time they grow to the middle and large snap settings, that the elastic will have worn out enough that it will fit perfectly. We started testing it new on the middle rise snap and it left some pretty wicked red marks on Ev. He has a little above averge chub on his thighs. We settled on using the diaper on the second to largest rise because this gave his thighs more room. If the leg openings had been larger we would have preferred the third largest setting (one snap exposed versus two). The issue was that with the setting that fit his legs it left some bulk in between his thighs because the rise had extra room. He also suffered from “plumber butt” on occasion with this diaper. The Ones & Twos are extremely trim between the legs, exactly the same width as the Fuzzibunz Elite!

Overall: In the end these diapers didn’t work well for us due to the leg openings being too small. But again, that means for the babies who have had a hard time finding a tight fit with other One Size diapers, that this is going to work well for them. The diaper is Trim, Affordable, Easy, and Nice to look at. There are a ton of good reasons to try the diaper if the fit will work. They dried as fast as my pocket diapers too, which is a huge plus for an AIO.

I have pretty much avoided the Bumkins line of diapers like the plague. Rarely had I ever heard positive reviews of them. Occasionally a reader would ask if I had reviewed them and I would laugh to myself and say “Of course not.”

It wasn’t until I attended the ABC Kids Expo that I decided I should try them. Bumkins redesigned their line of cloth diapers. I’m not familiar enough with the old line to compare but they added a One Size Cover, Newborn Cover, and a One Size Pocket and discontinued the old styles. My review is for the “Stuff-It” One Size Pocket diaper that I purchased to review when it came to Zulily.com (ref. link).

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ Bumkins diapers use large velcro tabs, much like the tabs seen on the Tots Bots line. These are the same tabs as I what I remember seeing on their old diapers though they certainly could be an improved version, I’m not sure. They cross over on either side and bend back on themselves before washing (or rather, you bend them. IF ONLY they attached themselves before washing!) The best thing going for this diaper is that it has pocket openings on both ends which makes it a sleeve diaper. Sleeve diapers do not need to be unstuffed before washing so you keep your hands dry and clean! Sizing is done with a 3×4 grid of snaps on the rise. There are 3 sizes to choose from and 4 snaps that are horizontal to close when you resize. I found that odd but it doesn’t make resizing difficult at all.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ The list price on the Stuff-it is 16.95 but many websites have it for 14.95. Even though it seems cheaper it does only come with a flimsy microfiber insert that many will find insufficient for their child, though it definitely worked for us since Everett isn’t a heavy wetter. If you add the cost of a hemp or other insert to add or replace then that brings the price back up to most one size pockets.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ Everything worked really well on the diaper for us, even with a flimsy insert. I was worried that the unique, shiny and soft outer fabric would wick but I never had any leaks or wicking.
Fit ✩✩✩ On Everett we had the rise snapped to the middle rise and that worked pretty well even though the legs weren’t as tight as I like. I just don’t see this diaper fitting an infant well with the bulk it has between the legs but since I haven’t tested it on one I can’t say that for sure. I liked that there was a good bit of fabric on top of the velcro which kept the velcro from rubbing his tummy.
Overall: I’m surprised that I liked the diaper as much as I did. We all know that Everett doesn’t wet out of any diapers (or rarely does) so it could be a different story for others. Bumkins has a Dr. Seuss license so you can find a couple unique prints, plus that fabric finish is definitely different.
The Mabu Baby diapers come in kits with 2 Shells and 2 snap in liners, 2 washable pads, 2 disposable pads, and 5 disposable liners. These can be used as hybrid diapers or an All-in-Two. The idea of Wal-Marts carrying cloth diapers is both frightening and exciting. On one hand you are exposing cloth diapers to a new and huge audience. On the other hand you start introducing cloth diapers to the “big business” world which could pose an economic threat to the many WAHM owned retail stores and diaper brands. As always DDL is here to provide an objective review and show you how the diaper works on video.
Ease of Use ✩✩ AHH! Maybe I am just inept but the after wash assembly of the Mabu Baby had me wondering if I needed a diaper degree. The way the layers folded into themselves, the fact that you can only put the liner in one way, all of these things took a lot of time to assemble for me. For a newbie to cloth it might be a bit overwhelming. It is hard to explain here but after washing/drying everything looks like a big mess. Even with my trained eye it took me longer than most other diapers. Once the liner is snapped into the shell then you just need to take your insert, bi-fold it, and lay in with the stay dry side facing the baby. Then you are all set to place it on the baby. That part is easy! The Mabu Baby uses hook and loop closures (like velcro) and these mimic the ease of a disposable diaper. The hooks are plastic like and hard and the loops are soft and flat. Those familiar with the GroVia brand will notice that this is virtually identical. The possible problem down the line could be these wearing out or the tabs curling/scratching the baby. Another way they did simplify things is that the sizing mimics that of disposables with the NB,1,2,3/4 options. I can’t attest to how they align though.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ I was expecting the price to be lower since it is sold at Wal-Mart for now. It is sill going to save parents money on disposables! You can get the starter kit at participating Wal-Marts for 29.95. For informed cloth diapering families they know that there are some better known brands for sale at the various online diaper stores, but there are many families that are cloth curious who will likely purchased the kit to try after seeing it in store.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ Ya know….. this diaper actually worked really really well. I even started using it for my nighttime diaper and used it for both boys. Everett is 14 months and while it would feel heavy each morning it never leaked. Poops were also contained within the entire diaper but the liner never contained the mess without it leaking into the shell. I’m not sure when the liner would really protect the shell from a poop. And with urine you can wipe it clean if desired so the purpose of the liner is only there to be difficult to snap in.
Fit ✩✩✩ According to the Size Chart my son Everett would have been a 3/4 based on his weight. When we got our package in the mail we saw how huge the size 3/4 was. Luckily they also sent the Size 2. It fit him great around the waist and even still fit my 3 year old, though it was a close call. This is why a weight based chart is inaccurate since you can be 40 pounds and 2 years old or 4. The height and build make it fit differently. The diapers appeared bulky in between the legs, like it was saggy but it wasn’t. The butt wasn’t hugely poofy at all, and the profile looks rather slim.
Overall: The diaper is absolutely functional. It is designed for parents who are being exposed to cloth diapers in a different way than most of the current users who are doing a lot of internet research. The packaging is friendly, helpful, and eye catching. It gives you basic information and hopes you will give them a chance. The design isn’t exactly simple and the tangle of shells, liners, and inserts could discourage a cloth diaper newbie if they went in unsure in the first place. I think they were going for simple but it just isn;t working. The only “simple” aprt is that these only come in white and are only available in hook and loop. In terms of spraying out the diaper I have decided this is topping my list of Least Favorite Cloth Diapers to Spray. We had an epic situation that called for a hazmat suit. If only I had used a liner!

I did actually like the diapers and was surprised by how much (even though this review seems to say otherwise). I think it all comes down to the inserts (which I really liked) and that it fit well and looked comfortable on.
That might be because it was only released in October 2011. The Incredibum is what I consider a “snap-in-one” meaning it is a one time use diaper but instead of it being an All-in-One with layers attached, the layers snap in and are customizable. The soaker pads are made from bamboo with cotton and a small bit of polyester. You can find my review below and watch my video demonstration above.
Ease of Use ✩✩ The Incredibum is not the most complicated diaper I have ever used but it does have a number of size adjustments on the rise, ways to adjust the soaker, and many snaps per tab that give it a pretty high learning curve. There are 4 snaps per tab, but you don’t have to snap them all. In some cases you might not have to do the hip snap so you are down to 2-3. I also had to get used to the position of the snaps on the tab. They aren’t in a place I am used to and would often forget one and have to go back. That only takes an extra few seconds, but it can be kinda annoying when you have an impatient baby. The soakers confused me at first too, and I will admit to still not understanding all of the options. The bamboo soaker snaps into the diaper with 2 snaps on the front and you can snap the other side into the back. You also have an optional snap in booster that snaps in the front. OR you can put this booster in alone when the diaper is set to the smallest setting.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The diaper retails for 16.85 and can be found at a few retailers. I like that the material is mostly natural fibers (67% bamboo, 23% cotton, and 11% polyester. It is One Size fits most but I have not tried it with a smaller baby so I can’t say if it fits well on an infant or not. It does fit both my 15 month old and my 3 year old on the middle rise snap. It is slightly less than most One Size pocket diapers.
Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ I tested this diaper in every scenario and it passed. Days were no problem, nights with the booster and main insert were also successful (even with my 3 year old, who has accidents at night), and naps weren’t an issue with just the main insert. This was a good alternative for a fitted and cover at night for us because it is a natural fiber, which in my world, is better. I like natural fibers versus synthetic stay dry fabrics because I feel they give less chances of leaking.
Fit ✩✩✩✩ The diaper fit Everett fine and performed well. I was happy with the absorbency but it just looked a tad bit funny on. I wouldn’t say this is the prettiest diaper ever since there is some gaping in the rise due to only having a rise snap on each side. The diaper fit around his legs and waist well.
Overall: The snaps on the rise and tabs are all white- I prefer the snaps to match or coordinate in a fun way somehow. White snaps aren’t a deal breaker for me but might be for someone. This style of diaper is a favorite for many people. I’m still a pocket girl at heart but it certainly worked well, was absorbent enough, and has a lot of options to it, and is pretty affordable.
I reviewed them over the course of 6 months. Unfortunately I was having some trouble with leaks with the Too Smart PUL backed insert and consulted the company for some advice. It was clear after 6 months that the Smartfold insert worked well and I really liked it, but the system as a whole wasn’t working for my son, who is on the chunky side. I have heard from others using this system that it works great for tall, skinny babies who otherwise have trouble finding diapers tight enough for those chicken legs.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ All-in-Two’s are notorious for not being “simple” systems when compared side by side to an All-in-One or even a pocket. To make the application of an AI2 faster you can add the desired soaker in before the first change. But, if you are switching out inserts sometimes it can be more time consuming with a wriggly baby. If you are using the prefold you can have some pre-folded so you can just lay them inside. The Too Smart insert has PUL on the back so it keeps the inside of the cover dry.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩✩ The Smart Cover is 16.00 and comes in Small (5-16 pounds) and Large (16+ pounds). The Too Smart PUL backed insert is 8.00. The Smartfold prefold is 7.00. Their entire line of diaper products is made in the USA. They use organic cotton in the Too Smart insert. The Smartfold uses organic hemp/cotton fleece. I would say the Smartfold is the best value, this little prefold is mega-absorbent and has a variety of uses. I wouldn’t personally pay the 8.00 for the Too Smart insert since it wasn’t my favorite.
Performance ✩✩✩ I was reviewing the cover, the Too Smart insert, and the Smartfold prefold. I have to say that the Smartfold was the standout in the bunch. This prefold/insert is soft and super absorbent. Unlike every other traditional prefold on the market, the Smartfold isn’t stiched down. Instead, there are just a few stitches. As it was explained to me by the creators- this allows liquid to pass all the way around the prefold instead of potentially just the core. The stitching in a prefold isn’t a barrier but it could slow the liquid down from seeping into the side layers. I had a hard time telling if the leaks I had using the Too Smart insert were due to the fit of it and the cover, or just lack of absorbency.
Fit ✩✩ Ev really challenged the design of the diaper, especially the Smart Cover. For us the fit of the cover just wouldn’t work. It is designed for those babies with hard to fit, skinny legs. Well, Ev is not one of those kids. If we snapped the hip snap, even to the loosest setting, the elastic (which is a bit thinner than many brands) would leave some pretty deep red marks. To combat this I would leave the hip snap undone completely. That worked to alleviate the redmarks but contributed to some leaking (or that is my theory) but only with the Too Smart PUL back insert. The insert itself fits into the cover well but because it is designed to have some stiffness I think this allowed for some gaps between it and his body, coupled with the gap from open hip snap, contributed to the 3 times I had pee in my lap! Now, the Smartfold is another story. I LOVE this prefold. It is pretty darn awesome, very absorbent, washes up softly, and fits well into the cover (and other covers as well.)
Overall: Sadly, the Smart Cover and Too Smart (PUL backed insert) didn’t do it for me. These two together challenged me. I emailed with Christy, the creator, and we were troubleshooting, but it just wasn’t working. Another complaint was purely aesthetic- those two together create a “poof” at the front of the diaper where the insert lays under the snaps. The back does have a nice smooth look though. The Smartfold worked so well for me, and did work in the cover without leaking, so this pair did work.
In fact, I featured it in a post about cloth diapers around the world over a year ago. When it hit the states and I was asked to review it I said yes of course. Their striped diaper is stunning to look at. So classic. The diaper itself has an exterior of New Zealand wool that is washable, and has a hidden layer of PUL. It is side snapping and a sized diaper that comes with 1 super absorbent microfiber insert.

Ease of Use ✩✩✩✩ I would say that the hardest thing about using the EcoBubs would simply be stuffing it. The insert included with the diaper is a bit large and the pocket opening is in the front so the opening is more narrow. With the insert being so fluffy, at least for now, you have to really take time to make sure it is laying flat. When it comes to actually placing it onto your baby it isn’t hard but side snaps do take some getting used to. Since there is some fluff with the wool I felt the snaps weren’t snapping as tight, as if there was less to grab onto when the snap was pressed, making the snap not have as much to hold onto (look at your snaps next time and how the male/female parts work together and this will make sense). Once you know they do this you are aware and are careful when snapping it closed.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ This diaper is stunning, beautiful, classy, elegant… I mean, for a cloth diaper. And they really play it up with their product photographs. The diaper is pricey at 33.00. What you get is a wool pocket. Not wool in the traditional cloth diaper sense where you are lanolizing it, but you get the look of wool and the added benefit of the breath-ability. It does come with 1 insert. And you are paying a higher price for it being an imported item, except the inserts, which are made in the US. Having just one is nice because it sure is pretty to look at and takes some fantastic photos.
Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ I loved this diaper for overnight. It has 1 mil PUL (read more about PUL) so it is more breathable than some diapers. Then it has wool over it. I used my microfiber inserts for daytime and theirs for nights with success on both counts. I don’t traditionally like pockets at night but we did ok with this one so far.
Fit ✩✩✩✩ I reviewed the Medium, which fits babies 11-27 pounds. The rise was shorter than I am used to for a Medium but it certainly worked. The size settings on the waist looked to go right along with how a Medium should fit as well. Ev has some growing room in it and may never need the Large size before potty learning. Most babies wear Mediums the longest. Their small fits 7-16 lbs and Large is 24 pounds +. The diaper is soft and never left any red marks. It looks very comfortable.
Overall: I should address the washing here. This is Wool, but not “Wool.” You wash it with your regular diapers. The whole thing. Like any pocket you need to remove the insert first but you still wash it with everything else. I tried my best to air dry it but my sitter put it in the dryer twice while I was out and it survived. After the first wash and air dry there were already some fuzzies, as with any knit material like that it will happen. I don’t know that I am sold on it as having more breath-ability than a normal pocket with 1 mil PUL. If you believe that it makes a difference then you will be happy with the diaper as a more breathable night time solution. I’ve never had a problem with my current diapers so maybe this is why it wasn’t noticeable. The insert, even though it has a lot of layers, dries quickly due to the snapping, circular design. For me, the beauty of this diaper is in just that- the appearance. I am IN LOVE with their stripes and color combinations so I am willing to overlook the price of just one. Would I have a whole stash? No. But 1-2 are quite nice.
You will need to stuff and unstuff the diaper before and after each use, and the entire diaper can only be used once unless you lay the suedecloth topped insert on the lining, in which case you are using it as an All-in-Two. I reviewed the Velcro version and found it very easy to get on and off. She also makes a snap version.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The price point on this pocket is 15.00 which is a steal for a handmade cloth diaper with a lot of little touches, like the addition of the stitching around the velcro tabs in a fun color. You also get designer fabrics and, in the case of the diapers a reviewed, a soft velour lining. They also make suedecloth lined diapers. PLUS you get two inserts.
Performance ✩✩✩✩ I went against my own rule and tried this diaper overnight and was pleased to find it worked without wicking around the legs or leaks. My son isn’t a heavy wetter. Since the diaper is covered on the outside with a cotton knit there is a chance of wicking but we didn’t have that. I’m not saying it will never happen, but it didn’t to us. I used two inserts for nights and the single insert for daytime.
Fit ✩✩✩ The biggest problem I had with the diaper is probably a result of not having the right size. We had some pretty noticable wing droopage issues with the velcro diaper. He had a LOT of waist left and it would slowly droop down. Had we reviewed the Medium there would have been less. I don’t know if thatw ould have solved the isue completely but it would have been better than what I was dealing with. It isn’t a super trim diaper but for what it is it isn’t that bulky either. The Large was just too big in the rise and waist for Ev but it still fit him enough to be leak free.
Overall: The diaper isn’t perfect but I liked the special touches included. The price is right at 15.00 too. I appreciated the packaging, the email with further instructions about care and wear, and everything about the experience in working with Leticia. I’m sure any customer would be treated with as much care and courtesy as I was, and that is priceless.

I was able to see the Fuzzibunz Elite One Size for the first time, before it was released to the public, at the ABC Kids Expo. I was happy with many of the improvements, the biggest being that they moved the elastic sizing to the inside of the pocket, which kept it from touching the baby’s skin and prevented you from having to re-stuff it in the slot like the previous version.

What confused me was the addition of something called “Nanotechnology.” When I asked about what this was everyone seemed to have either a different answer, or no clue. Not satisfied and still confused, I emailed after the show. Since then Tereson Dupuy took to her blog to explain it and I am still confused. Here is what she wrote (orginal source here):

“Nanotechnology can mean many different things in many different industries and you likely need to be a chemist to understand it. However, our simple explanation is this:

During the waterproofing of the outer layer of fabric (PUL) on FuzziBunz cloth diapers, there is an extra finishing step which helps the fabric prevent leaks through the leg seams, as well as prevent overall wicking around the waist and legs to the outside of the diaper and clothing. Nanotechnology, which simply means smaller particles or fibers, is used in this finish to better protect the waterproofing of the fabric. Finishes have always been used, however most would wash out within 25 washes. The textile industry has been using this type of technology more and more over the last several years to add durability and performance to fabrics such as the ones used in our FuzziBunz cloth diapers.

What is most important for you to know is that FuzziBunz as a company would never use anything harmful in their products AND the diapers have all passed CPSIA testing for harmful chemicals. The finish that is applied that uses nanotechnology is OKEO-TEX 100 certified for use in baby textiles and this is the highest safety rating it can receive. We are extremely confident in the safety of this process and you should be as well.”

I was told in person that the nanotechnology was sewn in and only to the edges. I am not reviewing this aspect of the diaper because I honestly don’t see it coming into play at all. In a way it reminds me of the “Bifidus Regularis” in Activia. A fancy word for something that may or may not be doing something but that you will likely never know, but it is meant to make you think it is pretty swanky.

Now for my review:
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ I much prefer the sizing of this version of the Fuzzibunz One Size to their old sizing. I never had much of a problem with it but only having to size each leg on one end is nice, and the fact that it is in the pocket and never has to be shoved back into a slot is a plus. Adjusting the size isn’t an exact science. You can look to the guide to see where your child would fit, but might still need to go back in and change things if you notice that the fit doesn’t look right. This is not a diaper you want to use between two different sized children in cloth diapers.

Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩ An Elite Fuzibunz will cost you 19.97 at most retailers, unless you catch it on sale. You do get 2 inserts included, and it is “one size.” However, it doesn’t look like it will last my son all the way until he learns the potty. If you have a whole stash of them you might be in a similar situation and need to buy Large sized diapers which adds to your overall cloth diapering cost. You will get a warranty if you buy them new in case something happens, which is good to have.

Performance ✩✩✩ My gut feeling is that the minky inserts aren’t as absorbent as the microfiber ones. I typically never have saturated inserts or any leaks, but I did get two leaks on Everett. Unfortunately the FB is so trim in between the legs that it is hard to double stuff, and double stuffing takes away that nice trim look they have. I just learned to make sure I changed him a little sooner in the FB and used it only during the day.

Fit ✩✩✩✩ For now, the FB Elite fits great on Everett. It looks amazing and trim. He has no more slots on the rise and maybe 1 snap on each side. I feel like he will outgrow the waist unless he remains that size (width) until potty learning. Yes, it is entirely possible because he could continue to grow taller but not wider. And before you ask, I double, triple checked that I had the waist sized to the largest setting. I still heistate in saying it will fit him until potty learning unless I see it for myself. In OS diapers, they either get really small and work for newborns/babies (like the Elite) or last until potty learning and older toddlers. It is almost impossible to get both of those fits in a OS. You have to ask yourself what is more important to you when buying, and research.

Overall: It sounds like I didn’t really like the FB Elite, but I actually did. I still prefer their Perfect Size line of diapers to their OS. I am not sold on the change over to Minky inserts, which are supposed to hold less stink and clean easier than microfiber. That is probably true but they lose some of the absorbency. I am also fine without the addition of “nanotechnology” to my cloth diapers. Regular techonology, just sewing them and making them fit well and absorb urine, is fine. Maybe it is preventing wicking, but since I don’t typically have that issue with any of my pocket diapers I wouldn’t be able to compare. It honestly feels more like a gimmick than an improvement to cloth diapers. I like that the FB Elite doesn’t leave snaps visible in the rise, one of the biggest benefits of a slotted leg elastic sizing diaper. The improvements to the placement of the sizing was needed and solved that curling elastic that happened to the old version. And finally- I do really love the new color, Spearmint, that I reviewed. It is beautiful in person and one of my all time favorite cloth diaper colors. It is gender neutral! I actually think this is a top 3 in terms of how I feel the diaper looks and fits my son in the trim department too.

When bumGenius announced they would be discontinuing their Deluxe All-in-One with the exception of their XS (now called Newborn), we knew there had to be a replacement in the works. That came a few months ago with the announcement of the Freetime- the new All-in-One that is also a One Size diaper. It features a Suedecloth lining, the same 3×3 One Step Rise adjustment as the bumGenius 4.0 and bumGenius Elemental, and Microfiber soakers that are semi-attached at each end. The new design means less stink issues since the soakers can get cleaner. It is also a more affordable One Size All-in-One option than the Elemental, their Organic One Size cloth diaper. Please note that I will be updating this review if using it longer changes things.
Ease of Use ✩✩✩ The Freetime is “all-in-one” in that there are no seperate pieces. However, there is some assembly required before putting it on a baby after it has been washed. The soakers won’t just magically fall into the proper position. Many options can sometimes mean more complications. No, it isn’t hard- but you do have to decide how to lay your soakers every time you change the diaper, or at least when you fold it after washing. Changing the sizing on the diaper is VERY easy, and like the Elemental, I like this to use between two babies in diapers who might be in different sizes. It is a perfect diaper bag diaper! The hardest thing about the Freetime is if/when your baby does a number 2. I’m going to have to add this diaper to my “worst diapers to spray” list. No matter how you slice it, a soaker is going to try and flop out and into your toilet. If you think your baby is going to poop and you want to use this diaper- do yourself a favor and throw in a fleece or flushable liner- TRUST ME!
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩ The Freetime is more expensive than its predecessor but that is because it is more complex and also One Size fits most. I’m pretty sure the creative geniuses at bumGenius took a lot of time and research to develop this diaper too. Just like all of my Cotton Babies products the Freetime is very well made. When you buy a BG product you also get the warranty and customer service behind it. You can now even live chat on their website with qualified and knowledgeable staff to troubleshoot your problems. Yes you can find cheaper AIO‘s, but some people would rather pay more for these little things that really add up!
Performance ✩✩✩✩ I still need to use this diaper longer to really test the performance, and then update it in the future. I haven’t tested it overnight yet. For daytime we haven’t experienced any leaks at all. There are 5 layers of microfiber which is plenty for our needs and would probably even work for nights with my light wetter. My biggest fear is that, since there are basically 3 (or more if you fold the soakers) layers of suedecloth that this could slow down how fast liquid is absorbed, possible contributing to leaks. It might not do that AT ALL, and I need more time to know.
Fit ✩✩✩✩ What can I say? I LOVE the fit. It is pretty identical to the bumGenius 4.0 and we love those as well. I’m kinda a BG girl. They were my first “real” cloth diaper. Ev has plenty of room left on the waist and in the rise. The only thing I noticed was a bit of sag in the middle, maybe because of the weight of the soakers? It didn’t happen every time but I did check and the soakers were not wet when this happened so it wasn’t due to weight from that. I prefer the middle rise snap but I think switching to the largest might help.
Overall: I’m excited about the new addition to the bumGenius family. Now there is a stay dry option in the AIO/OS class. I do think I still prefer my bumGenius 4.0, but for those families who would rather not stuff diapers, the Freetime is a great new solution with the same great quality and fit as the 4.0.
Where to Buy I’d love it if you would support DDL by ordering through one of my affiliates! Kelly’s Closet, Diaper Junction, and Sweet Bottoms are all taking pre-orders for the Freetime and they should be getting them soon!

Ease of Use ✩✩✩ While snapping cloth diapers and pockets will take longer than any disposable diaper, once you have stuffed the diaper it is pretty easy to put on the baby. 3 snaps per tab also sounds worse than 2 or 1 but after you have done it a few times it gets really easy. My biggest complaint about the diaper would be how narrow the pocket opening is. I have very small hands so I think some people would have a hard time with it.
Bang for the Buck ✩✩✩✩✩ I’m still shocked that the retail for this diaper is only 12.00! It includes the one bamboo/cotton insert. The price is low in part because the diapers are manufactured in China. For some people that is a deal breaker. I don’t think this diaper is going to be great on a newborn but few one size diapers are. I was really happy with how the legs fit on Everett. They have a wider cut, more like briefs than bikinis if you think in terms of underwear. The legs ride lower. So I would bet this works well for chunky legs.
Performance ✩✩✩✩✩ The cotton and bamboo insert was absorbent enough for our daytime use. For nights I added a bumGenius microfiber doubler in the pocket and this held us over for both kids. (Fletcher still wets at night on occasion.)
Some people might not love the way the legs are cut because it isn’t like some of the more well known one size pockets on the market, but it worked for us and we didn’t have any red marks or leaks. The rise snaps do look different than many others in their positions but it doesn’t seem to change how it fits for the middle rise compared to other brands on the middle snap that fit baby Ev.
Overall: For 12.00 I can’t complain about a thing on the Smart Snugs. I also will say that the owner, Samantha, has been great to work with. She was emailing with me promptly and I can only assume she would be willing to do so with any customers needing help. For an inexpensive pocket they also hve rise snaps that match the PUL, something I prefer when I am buying cloth diapers. The diapers carry a 1 year warranty as well. The only thing that bothered me was the narrow opening of the pocket.
