babywearingmonthThis post is part of “All About Babywearing” Month on Dirty Diaper Laundry.

Before I go into any detail at all about the Boba, let me say, I LOVE IT!!!  I love almost everything about it.  The Boba is comfortable, attractively designed, comes in earth-inspired colors, is supremely easy to adjust, will fit me or my husband, is made from organic materials, is manufactured in the US, and will last for years to come for carrying my son as he gets older, and more children.  I have filmed a video demonstration to let you see how the adjustments work, and how the Boba works with a heavier child.  Thanks to Melanie for letting us use her and her son, who is such a cutie.  And her daughter, who can be seen wandering around in segments LOL.

I know you are already convinced of how amazing this carrier is, so I am going to elaborate on all of these points to really make you rethink your current carrier.

babo2Comfort: I could wear the Boba for hours.  The shoulder straps are nicely padded and wide enough to distribute weight.  The waist belt is very wide which makes for better strength.  This is especially good because you are using this to carry babies over 15 pounds, but once you get to 30, 35, you are going to love it even more.  Because the back is inches higher than other SSC’s it helps your center of gravity and posture.  You won’t be worried about your baby leaning out; this means you can stand taller and more confidently while wearing your child.  The Boba can be used in the “tummy to tummy” position and also for wearing your baby on your back.  Both are comfortable, especially with the foot straps supporting the legs of the child.

Adjustments: The straps on the Boba glide through their buckles like butter.  I hope you can tell in the video how easy it was for me to pull my shoulder straps tighter.  Something that I love about the Boba that wasn’t on my other SSC is the double adjusting straps.  Rather than pulling from one side to adjust the waist or back strap, there is an adjusting strap for each side.  This means, if you wish, you can center the waist buckle.  You can also adjust from one side to have the waist buckle sit more toward the side.  I like keeping the buckle centered and putting the carrier on by buckling it in the back.  I don’t have to buckle it up front and slide it around; this always messes up my shirt!  I am so glad there is another way!  The shoulder straps are more than easy to tighten and loosen.  If I need to nurse in the carrier I can easily loosen one side to give myself room.  Then, just pull the straps away from me to tighten again without a hassle. The foot straps are also easy to use and adjust on your baby.  You can easily slide the straps to the desired location according to the height of your baby, and whether they are in front or back.

boba3Looks: Boba has 6 earth inspired colors to choose from, and the Pine Print.  I have the print, which is a gorgeous shade of green.  The other solid colors are just as nice, and everything is husband friendly.  Can you tell a man helped design this?  The back fabric doesn’t have pockets or hoods or zippers.  This gives it a nice clean look.  I actually love how, without those extras, you can see the baby’s tush in the seat!  It is adorable.

Materials and Manufacturing:  The way the Boba got its name is actually from where it is made!  NAP i, the makers of Sleepy Wrap and Boba, is based in Boulder, CO.  NAP chose to have the Boba made right there! Boba is a combination of “Boulder” and “Baby!”  The fabric is all 100% Organic Cotton.

Overall: The Boba has just about everything going for it, with very few drawbacks.  Would a pocket be useful?  Yes, but you would sacrifice the clean look of the back.  Sleep hoods also have their benefits, but again, then you have a hood to deal with a detract from the looks.  I know I very rarely use my sleep hood.  The safety buckle can be a pain in the beginning, and I still forget about it and wonder why I can’t unbuckle the Boba.  But when you remember that this carrier is meant for heavier babies, having this extra bit of safety is a good thing.  The Boba is really filling a niche in the market for wearing toddlers comfortably and safely.  Now you don’t have to use a backpack style carrier or carrier meant for smaller children.  I am really excited about the Boba for all of these reasons, and of course, it is comfortable!

Boba is a Soft Structured baby carrier (SSC) that is intended for toddlers 1-4 years old (15 pounds and up). Boba has a few extra inches of height to keep your center of gravity closer to your body and support your little one’s back.  The innovative thing about Boba carrier is that there are foot straps attached to the waist belt for the child’s feet to sit in enabling a healthy sitting position for the child.  The footstraps not only give little tired legs a rest, but support the legs in a flexed abducted (froglike) position which naturally tilts the pelvis, fills out the hip sockets, and aligns the spine.
